Sorta surprised astana let up. But tomorrow is the critical stage anyways with a climb and a quick downhill into santa cruz. thats as close to an uphill finish you are gonna get. |

Impressive from Mancebo. Hopefully now either him or Nibali will win the GC, i dont particularly want an Astana rider to win |

What was with Astana though? They could have easily used 3 guys and reeled in Mancebo. Then Levi would have been in yellow in his home town. |

Levi has already won the yellow in his own town. so its nothing new really. im just sorta surprised they spotted a guy like mancebo 2 plus minutes. i know this is post puerto mancebo they could have closed to around 1 minute and had more options. now they have to absolutely attack...i dont think levi can gain 2 mins off the time trial in solvang. |

I don't think any team of the peloton planned this this way. Sure, they could have closed the gap if they had worked earlier in the race, but with weather like that, everything get messy and kind of unpredictable. On the other hand, I'd have found it weird if the 3 astana's guys had done all the reeling job just to get the yellow and to work as hell tomorrow to protect it (added to the chasing effort of today). |

I'm sure they think he can gain time elsewhere, like tomorrow. Don't know if it'll happen, but one thing's for sure, if the weather is as bad tomorrow then anything could happen. ToC is shaping up nicely as far as I'm concerned, as long as they get those damn choppers up! |

I didnt think they necessarily needed to get the yellow, but they had reeled it into to 1.10 deficit then let off the gas and let it to over 2. thats what confused me. |

Thing is with 1 minute, they can attack mancebo and if they dont get any time, one minute is ok for time trial. With 2 mins, they absolutely have to attack him tomorrow and gain time. id lean towards 2 mins on time trial cannot be made up against inspired mancebo. |

I thought it made perfect sense, Astana will most likely kill Rock Racing over the Queen Stage. That plus the Solvang TT I think will allow Levi to win. |

Holy shit that was epic. Just standing in the crowd I was in various states of hypothermia. I was there from 9 am to 5 PM Fahlin of Columbia took the womens race from a big break.

Yes, that time was kind of confusing. The trick is that GC times are measured after the first rider crosses the final line for the first time. After that, it doesn't matter (you know, ToC timing rules are kind of variable after the Leipheimer bending rule from ToC 2007). So even if the chasing group had captured Mancebo after that, it would be the same. But it wasn't pretty clear, even for some team managers. In fact, according to Bruyneel, that was one of the reasons for the real chasing starting so late. |

According to cyclingnews it was race radio problems which lead to the weird race as the gc riders didnt know that Mancebo was ahead of the rest of the breakaway group till near the end of the race. The gc time was also taken on the first lap of the finishing circuit not the third which explains why the time gap went back up towards the end
woops to slow

Here is Larsson's power numbers, they were taking it real easy, he had an average of only 219 watts, and a 114 heartbeat, which considering the end of the stage was essentially a crit (read: intensive effort) surprises me.

The average trained recreationist trains at 200W average...so that's indeed not very hard |

Yeah, he also averaged 35 km an hour, not exactly flying for a race with this caliber of riders |
