Whereas Rio is conditioned by a massive support from Latin American countries to Madrid, Chicago has too many preceeding Games for the States, despite having Obama, and Tokio doesn't offer anything Madrid doesn't, plus Nagano is still too close.
I'm hopeful. But not that much some here do. |

Rio could get problems with posible media focus on all poor people livning in Rio, the same way as Beijing got media focus on the poor workers from the country hardly getting enough salary to survive.

I forgot to say Brazil is hosting the Football World Cup in 2014... for me they stand no chance, plus Lulaisn't the most appreciated statesman in the world. |

The first win of 2009 goes too..................
*Drum Roll*
Simon Gerrans
He won the first stage of Jayco Tour
The best part is that the Pocket Rocket's flight was canceled, so they delayed the race for him, he had the taxi drive out to the start and drop him off in grand style.

I honestly hope you're right, but looking at the previous editions' locations, I have to agree with SN

Am I allowed to post something curious that surprised me about a portuguese rider? Or will the chauvinism police arrest me? |

Anyway, here it is
Rui Costa's debut in the ProTour peloton will be marked by a start to the season in which team manager Eusebio Unzué will test the young rider's abilities, in order to understand how he adapts to each type of races: one day and stage races.
"We need to evaluate him in several fronts. This is a very young rider, in need of experience, which he will acquire through competing. We know about his potential, but it's important to get to know him better" said the spanish manager.
In this same interview, Unzué guarantees that Rui Costa's first season in the top flight won't be too demanding. "He'll do about 55 racing days. Bringing him to any of the Grand Tours is out of the question."
So far, Caisse have decided on the following calendar for Costa's first half of the season, littered with some of the biggest races on the calendar:
Challenge Mallorca
Tirreno-Adriatico
Milano-San Remo
GP Miguel Indurain
Vuelta al Pais Vasco
Paris-Camembert
Amstel Gold Race
La Flèche Wallone
Liége-Bastogne-Liége
Quite unusual for a first year pro. Denotes a heck of a lot of trust in him. A major team taking a neo-pro to a major classic is extremely rare and reserved for special talents. Taking one to all the major classics is simply unheard of, to me.

Guy A has a reputation for being an untrustworthy backstabber who climbed in the business world due to shady politics. Decides to start a team, try hard for it to have a "badass" attitude so he can boost jeans sales.
Riders sign for this team knowing all this.
Guy A backstabs them and there is no more team.
Riders sue Guy A.
How stupid are these riders? It was extremely obvious from the start that the guy was not to be trusted in any way, shape or form.
For god's sake, the guy even pretended to put up an anti-doping program in the team that turned out to be bullshit (as evidenced by a certain rider confessing to taking EPO and those "internal tests" not accusing anything)
These riders remind me of the stupid girl who goes out with guys who are jackasses "because they're badass"....and is extremely surprised when said guy treats her like shit.
Idiots. No sympathy for stupid riders. None at all.

From Cycling News
Gelfi commits suicide
Former professional cyclist Luca Gelfi was found dead and is believed to have committed suicide according to La Gazzetta dello Sport on Saturday. The 42-year-old Gelfi, who began his professional career in 1988 and retired in 1998, raced for Del Tongo as well as the Eldor-Viner, Brescialat and Ros Mary-Amica Chips teams.
The Italian road racer won two stages in the Giro d'Italia in 1990 and finished second at the Milano Sanremo in 1993. Gelfi reportedly suffered from depression prior to his death. He leaves behind a wife and child.

More news about Rock Racing's financial problems.
Baden Cooke, who recently left the team to join Vacansoleil instead, may prosecute Rock Racing. He says that Michael Ball only would guarantee the riders' wages for the next 6 months - if a new main sponsor hasn't been found before then, the team would close, Cooke claims (that Ball has said).
Cooke also says that Ball called him and said that there was no money, no bikes, etc. The only money that the team have now are from Ball's pocket. |
