yes I have many riders that last season were Absolute Leaders and now in 2009 they are only helpers for the big sharks. That pisses them of

4th Stage
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/tirrenoadriatico41.jpg

With 15km to go the bunch started to climb Passo Lanciano

Entering the last 10km the big favorites attacked. Cunego was the first one then Riccò and Contador. Di Luca was a bit late and so he spent a lot of energy!
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/tirrenoadriatico42.jpg

They were caught right after though. Other favorites tried their luck such as Kirchen, Menchov, Soler…
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/tirrenoadriatico43.jpg

Lots of big names made their atttempt to leave the main group but the Liquigas team didn’t let anyone gain much advantage!
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/tirrenoadriatico44.jpg

Eventually a front group was formed with 2km to the top as Pelizotti, Nibali and Wegelius couldn’t do more to maintain the pace. The group featured Contador, Cunego, Riccò, Menchov, Soler, Simoni, Lobato and Kirchen. Di Luca was aproaching quickly!
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/tirrenoadriatico45.jpg

In the final sprint the whole group was tored apart and some gaps were created. Di Luca was still gaining terrain though.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/tirrenoadriatico46.jpg

At the front Contador beated Cunego and took the victory while Di Luca’s recovery was worth an 8th place!

Milan – San Remo
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/msremo1.jpg

The opening of the Spring Classics was not a primary goal for us but still we wanted to perform good. O’Grady will be sent as a Free Rider and Di Luca the leader.

The breakaway included Boom, Gusev, Weylandt and Riccò!
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/msremo2.jpg

At Pompeiana, the last hill, the peloton was all grouped as the ascent started.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/msremo3.jpg

Di Luca attacked almost at the top as nobody wanted to risk anything.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/msremo4.jpg

Ballan, Cancellara, Schumacher(C.A) and Gilbert formed a group with him in the descent.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/msremo5.jpg

In the final 15kms, the flat specialists created a gap to the chasing group containing all the sprinters. With 5km to go the group stopped working and everyone started to prepare the final sprint.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/msremo6.jpg

2kms later Di Luca stormed at the front. He wouldn’t stand a chance in the sprint so he went for it! The sprinters werent that far! He maintained a 15’’ gap till the start of the sprint.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/msremo7.jpg

He started sprinting closer to the finish that everyone else. The rest of the group was recovering the distance along with the newly arrived sprinters!! Less than 1km and the Italian was caught could he do a top 10 though??
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/msremo8.jpg

No… what a shame. He was caught by an avalanche of sprinters and finished 13th after Bennatti.Ballan got the win!

he was really fading away

but he was only caught with 0.8km to the finish and so I thought he could get a reasonable result...

but the group of the sprinters catched the group at the front and so Di Luca didnt have a chance Sad

Don't know about that. Think Di Luca would have done OK looking at the top 10. Sad

Gustavovskiy
Di Luca's sprint ability was only higher than Schumacher's in the front group and was the worst flat rider....

plus the group of sprinters was catching the front goup... it was a surprise for me that Ballan, Gilbert and Cancellara got the podium...

Yes, those were the 3 I thought Di Luca had a chance against. Still only another 800m and it would have been a fantastic result.

Anyway. I'm expecting some big results from Di Luca.Smile

MARCH REPORT

Uhhh… disastrous is it a good word?? Yes I think so… It couldn’t go worst than it did!! Paris-Nice was an authentic failure. Vicioso made the worse performance of his season and of course we can’t blame the Kloden for anything… As to Tirreno-Adriatico I must say we were unlucky. Di Luca made several attempts in the mountain stage but he didn’t catch the right time to attack so he didn’t gain much time too time trialists. Milano - San Remo was just as tragedic. In the end we ended this phase of the season with only 2 PT points brought by Kloden in Paris-Nice’s Prologue. The only good news came in the end of the month with Zaballa’s win in GP Llodio which brought some confidence into the team.

“We’ve touched the bottom, now we can only rise up” – Zaballa said to his team mates in clear castellano

yes at least... but the team isnt too worried with Pro Tour Rankings, sooner or later we'll be able to raise ou standings... The major problem are the finances... it will be really hard to avoid bankruptcy Sad

April

The Spring has finally come and with it The Classics! O’Grady will have the chance to shine upon the Cobblestones and to bring us some points. The Ardennes will be disputed by a strong squad headed by Di Luca once more with the help of the Spaniards. Vuelta al Pais Vasco will also be faced by Vicioso and Zaballa, a race which would fit them perfectly if it wasn’t for the last TT stage which might turn their classification into something unpleasant. Two more one-day races will be raced by Di Luca to help getting him fit, and two Iberian races are going to our portuguese talents to get some cash for the team – cuz we need it !!

Ronde van Vlanderen
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/Semttulo-9.jpg

No pictures available on this one sorry…
O’Grady didn’t really had anyone to help so he lost most of his strenghts before the rest of the favorites. In the last plain section he was on a group with Vansumeren and Langeveld who were dirty players and didn’t help him (Steegmans was really close to the three of them)! So in the end he got a 12th which was not too bad…

Vuelta al Pais Vasco

The first race included in our season goals is raced in neighbour territory. This five-day stage race does not feature any mountain of biblic proportions but a consistent range of hilly terrain stages which create a perfect environment for Vicioso and Zaballa to do their magic. The only problem is the last day TT that will probably leave our leaders out of the top10.

1st Stage
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/vpvasco11.jpg

The peloton could see Zaballa being left behind… he crashed during GP Miguel Indurain and he apparently wasnt recovered yet. More bad luck…
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/vpvasco12.jpg

The 14-men breakaway was hard to catch. That only happened at the last hill – Alto de Deskarga
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/vpvasco13.jpg

As the hill was really short the attacks came almost at its top.
Leipheimer(LPR) was the first to go, then Cunego and after him Vicioso
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/vpvasco14.jpg

After the mountain Sprint the only one interested in taking the break all the way to the finish line was the Spanish. So he built a gap of 30’’ in the 6km long descent.
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/vpvasco15.jpg

At the final meters the chasing group closed on him but nobody could reach him as he conquered the first victory in the Pro Tour for LA MSS!!
i439.photobucket.com/albums/qq112/Gustavovskiy/vpvasco16.jpg

After him (+11’’) Cobo and Barredo finished in front of the rest of the favorites
