Race Preview - Tour of Ukraine (PTHC)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/t1_ukraine.jpg
Home race for our wannabe superstar Zmorka, who didn't do too great there last year. Back then Spilak sacrificed himself for the Ukrainian, but this time around we might see Marlen having to do some domestique work himself, as we also bring GC man Keizer.

Race Review - Tirreno - Adriatico (PT)
Speaking about, the Dutchie was our GC hope in Italy, but didn't perform at all. We started the race with a rather poor team time trial and it quickly became clear that we weren't in for a top-10 in the GC, or anything close. Zmorka on the other hand also forgot he was a time trialist, finishing outside of the top-40 (!) in the individual time trial, just like Sütterlin. The Ukrainian made up for it by going in the attack in four out of five stages and scoring KoM-points almost everywhere, leading to the win in that classification. Remarkable start of the season for him, to say the least.

Glad Zmorka at least made up some of the lost TT points this way. Hope you get some non Manninen luck going soon Smile

@red: True. I'd rather see him perform constantly in time trials though Pfft
@Abhi: I hope so too Smile

Race Preview - Milano - San Remo (M)

Special moment for Los Pollos Hermanos, as we will be at the startlist of our first monument ever. We didn't bring a puncheur, but we'll be present with Finnish playboy Matti Manninen. We don't expect him to win it like he did in Qatar, but a strong result would definitely be welcome after a rather disappointing start of the season overall. Last year a rouleur won it though, so it's definitely a shame the legendary Quispe is no longer riding for us, as this would have been a perfect race for him.

Race Review - Paris - Nice (PT)
We expected this to be our worst race of the triple header, and our expectations were met. Second sprinter Abdul Halil wasn't strong enough to be a real contender in the sprints, with a fourteenth place as his best result. Loanees Turner and Stojnic got some media attention with their attempts of joining the breaks, but were also simply not good enough to keep up with the rest of the strong PT riders there. Definitely no shame in that though.

Race Review - Milano - San Remo (M)
Top-10 was the hope and top-5 was the dream, and we got something in between. As our only rider performing well so far this season,
Manninen delivered once again. He was attentive on the Poggio, but couldn't follow the strong rouleurs attacking, and was fourth in the sprint of the peloton. As three others got away, this means our Finnish superstar finished seventh in our first ever monument. A result we can be both happy and proud of!

First cobbled race of the season for us! Time to see whether
Zepuntke's mountain training will pay off, although realistically we will need to understand if he's dropped before the cobbles even start. Therefore we really would like having a rider in the break, and if the peloton doesn't go super hard in the mountains this may lead to a domestique such as Ulloa or Nareklishvili finishing in the points.

Race Review - Strada Appia Antica (PT)
The profile definitely didn't fit Zepuntke's skillset perfectly, but that did not withhold the team from participating in chasing the breakaway. Our German cobbler survived the mountains, but it seemed like he couldn't regain enough energy to really compete for the win or anything close. He was able to remain in the group of favourites that fought for second in the end, but as he was completely drained he only managed to finish tenth. Still a great result though, something we definitely would have signed for before the race. I guess this makes him our second best performing rider so far this year. Special mention for level one loanee
Stojnic, who was the third best rider on our team once again.

Third race for Manninen, and so far he has only delivered great results. Won't be easy to only keep delivering those great results all season, but we obviously hope he'll be around the top positions again in Australia. We bring Ruiz as his most important domestique.

Great result for Zepuntke - on a profile that didn't suit him at all! Guess that gets your hopes up for the flatter cobbles Smile

And I guess GORC is Preview for now - should be another big race for Mighty Matti! Good luck, and may his teammates - especially the time trialling ones - finally step up a bit Wink

@Fab: Nothing gets past you, eh Pfft You are right of course, but I have decided to not change it anymore, so I will be for ever remembered of my failure.

@Marco: You and I obviously both know he could have won easily but didn't care. A tactic he has tested a lot and became an expert in at your team. To be fair, he really thought PT would be a bit harder, as he thought he was going to finish 100th. You can imagine his disappointment coming over the line in tenth, missing a zero.

Race Review - Great Ocean Road Classic (PTHC)
Life can't always be a fairytale, not even for Manninen. He was aiming for at least a top-5, but the rouleurs taking up the first couple of spots meant the sprinters could only sprint for the lower top-10 spots mostly. He didn't have the best sprint of his life, but it was still okay-ish enough, as he finished tenth on the day. Not a lot of points, but we can't only rely on the flying Finn all season.

Our time trialists have been quite shit this season, to put it nicely. So it's as simple as that: redemption time for Zmorka, Sütterlin and Keizer. Nevertheless, as we know they have been acting like they have so far, we decided to also bring Manninen, so we hope at least one rider will score points in the Czech Republic.

Race Review - Praha - Karlovy Vary - Praha (PT)
Although Zmorka and Sütterlin didn't have a great opening prologue, Keizer saved the day with a third place. One day later, in the flat sprint stage, Manninen didn't care. It looked like our DS in the Czech Republic was inclined on using the flying Finn as a domestique, which definitely raised some questions for the most people watching the race. Nevertheless, it seems like our DS made the perfect decision! With a stunning performance in the long individual stage 3 time trial, Zmorka whooped the ass of American world champion Taylor Phinney, grabbing the yellow jersey and not losing it anymore in the final stage. Sütterlin and Keizer also impressed, as they took third and fourth on stage 3 and in the final classification. Sterbini gave us some depth points with a 34th place.

Race Preview - Ronde van Nederland (PT)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_nederland.jpg
From Prague, some of our riders took the Easyjet to Rotterdam. No idea if they landed close to the opening stage of the Ronde van Nederland, because who has ever heard of Nuth? A good thing this race takes place in March, and not in No Nuth November (ba dum tsss). Anyway, we decided not to bring a puncheur, as our only leader in Holland will be
Manninen. Oh wait, the excel participation file wasn't loading, we actually do bring a puncheur! Home race for Kelderman, looking forward to see whether he can do something so close to home. Also a home race for loanee Nieuwenhuis, as our domestique core will once again exist out of fan favourites Ruiz and Ulloa.

I guess Abhi would agree that indeed you don't bring a puncheur Pfft

Good luck anyway, and congrats on the massive Praha result Smile

Race Review - Macskako Kerekparverseny (PT)
Oops. We totally forgot our cobble squad was going to Hungary, while the others are racing in The Netherlands. As always, Zepuntke was our leader, although the undulating terrain didn't fully suit him. We hoped for a top-10, and the German delivered. With Los Pollos taking on responsability in the peloton all day, it was great to see Ruben finish ninth, at a minute of winner Trentin. Mexican fan favourite Ulloa had a good race as well, finishing 31st.

Second monument of the year, baby. Although one can never be 100% sure because of possible punctures, the possibility of Zepuntke winning this 'kermiskoers' is rather high. Really nothing else I could say about it.

Yet another kermiskoers. Can't always have Zeropuntke steal the show, so we'll probably let one of the smaller teams win this one.

Race Preview - Paris - Roubaix (M)
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/mg_roubaix.jpg
Third monument of the year, baby. Zepuntke is our man once again, but we bring another joker as well. After Zmorka won the cobbled Ukrainian championship while singlehandedly destroying the whole Popo4Ever team, he will get the opportunity to show that beautiful hillis jersey on the infamous Roubaix cobbles. Lopez Nolasco will also be there, in a race that could be described as his worst nightmare. Even worse than riding for a team like Red Bull - Zalgiris.

GT round up
Been a while since I posted, so time for make up for that. In this post I'll give a quick overview of our first three GT's ever. In a later post there will be some other Los Pollos highlights from the past races.

Giro d'Italia
Let's start with the good news. We almost immediately secured our first ever GT win! Although Kelderman has a lot of haters, the Dutch bad boy delivered on the fifth stage. Nobody was able to follow his attack with 3.3 km to go, and he held on until the finish line. Hurray!

Also in Italy were Munoz and Abdul Halil. Whereas the Malaysian sprinter did okay with some stage top-10s, the Colombian disappointed with barely a decent stage to tell about, and only finishing 32nd in the final GC.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Giro/S5/17.jpg

Wilco celebrating his stage win

Vuelta a España
In Italy Munoz might have had the excuse of working for Kelderman, in Spain he had absolutely no reason not to perform. Yet, he still disappointed. He improved his GC position with two spots, finishing thirtieth, but once again without any noteworth stages or KoM-attempts. Sprinter Abdul Halil did what he could, with his best result being a stage podium on the final stage.

Abdul Halil sprinting to a third place

Tour de France
The highlight of the Tour is easy to find: two stage wins by mighty
Manninen. Early on our favourite Finn won two sprint stages, which meant our pre-race goals were accomplished. After that our lead-out started to be rather bad, but thanks to 2 fourth places Manninen didn't give up on his green dream. In the end the winner of that jersey was Dainese, beating Manninen just like he did on the final classic Champs-Élysées stage. Also a nice mention for Peruvian champion Ruiz, who did some valuable work as Manninen's final guy, and even finished sixth on a stage himself.

Already tired of writing the same thing once again, but here we go.
Munoz didn't just disappoint, he heavily disappointed. Only one attack in a whole race, which was painful to watch itself as well. Finishing outside of the top-50 in the GC could mean the end of his LPH career. Time triallist Sütterlin also definitely did not fill in the expectations, finishing 62nd in the time trial. For some reason our only attacker seemed to be Nareklishvili. Although he is a nice guy and we like having him in the team, he is definitely not the guy that wins GT stages.
