@bbl: Yes, not a lot of options in CT and I didn't want to take too many chances riding C1 or HC races after what happened last season. Looking forward to the racing
@Fabianski: There's a reason I mentioned 4/5 goals is a real possibility for your team in your HQ I wish I was as confident about PCM as you are!

So while I certainly think Phillips will be going back up after only a season down in the CT. I'll be on the list that doesn't think it is as dominating as thought.
Make no mistake, Kelderman will destroy his competition on basically all the hills, and is likely a good candidate for top points scorer in the division. Watson is also likely to get a good chunk of points from the hills also.
My concern is where are the rest of the points? Dumolin will get some from a few scattered TTs, Van Lerberghe probably will pick up some on the cobbles as well.
Keinath while a very solid stage race rider is more suited to a support role, and even at the CT level will struggle for top results. I think he is certainly a top 10 stage racer, pushing even into the top 5, but not good enough to score large points on his own.
The sprints will likely yield very little results as I doubt the quality is there to really even push into the sprinters groups on most races. Sure there might be a podium or two, but I don't expect much.
The overall roster is very good, and Kelderman will outscore some teams on his own (or get close). They will promote with room to spare and possibly contend for the top spot, but the balance isn't as strong as I think others suggest.

@Kentaurus: Thanks for going through my team in-depth and providing your thoughts
I agree on a lot of things you say about us; Kelderman should dominate the hills and be the best puncher in the division. We also hope you are right about Watson.
It is also probably because of Kelderman and his huge wage that we're not as well-rounded as I'd hope to be. If Keinath is a Top 5 climber/stage racer in the division, I'll be happy. I do think he's good enough to there though.
There isn't enough TT or cobbles RDs for Dumoulin and Van Lerberghe, but I'm hoping the former can replicate Hofer's success from last season in the races that he does go to. As for the latter, I'm hoping that the trio of Van Lerberghe, Paprstka and Bovenhuis can replicate some of the magic of Drucker, Per and Van Emden from our first season, back in 2017. It's definitely a case of decent quantity over top quality as far as our cobbles team is concerned.
I also don't have any illusions about our sprinters challenging for wins regularly. I hope I've been able to plan them well enough to pick up enough 3rd to 6th places in a lot of the races that we attend. It was more a case of trying to find gaps in the calendar to exploit rather than have sprinters able to challenge in any race.
I do believe that both Carlsberg and Carrefour have better, all-rounded squads than we do, and it will depend a lot on our Top 4 - Kelderman, Keinath, Dumoulin and Van Lerberghe, to try and make up the points we expect to lose in depth to those teams.

I see
I'd have loved to race in Emilia, too, but another hilly race clashing with our hilly race win goal wouldn't have been a smart move I guess

I hope Wilco Kelderman and Igor Boev won't destroy the dreams of my team in Izola.

@Tinxias: I do think your riders are better suited for that race though, and I sold you one of them

All in for that Izola victory

@AbhishekLFC I mean Korošec is strong in a sprints but Kelderman can be dangerous if he will escape alone or with a small group in the last few smaller laps
@redordead Izola will be definitely interested and hard to battle

Looking forward to Tachira where Marquez and Keinath will clash for the first time! The hills are definitely beneficial to Keinath, but I hope the small difference in resistance and recovery Marquez has over him can make up for that as well as his stamina being way lower than Keinath's... Good luck though in the first month! (and in every other month, but I'll be back )

@Nemolito: Will be interesting to see how we go against our former rider Marquez. Looking forward to Tachira. And also to all other races. All the best to you as well.

We thought it was time to look back at our team history a little, before we look ahead to the 2020 season. In this post, we've tried to gather some stats on how the riders that have worn our colours have done for us in our three years of existence. We plan to make this kind of post a regular thing, with the history being updated at the end of each season, rather than at the beginning, going ahead.

Having been one of our leaders for both our PCT seasons, it is no surprise that Saber is on top of this list. David Per stands out with his two loan-in seasons. Special mention to Marcel Wyss and Michel Kreder, who returns this time again, for being in the Top 10, despite having raced only one season with us, that too in the CT.

Alexander Krieger is the only rider to have won a stage race for us - Course de Solidarnosc back in 2017, which secured our promotion to the PCT. Per and Saber are the riders to have won two stages. Kreder has also won three Points classifications. Jaoa Costa leads the KOM wins with two of them. David Per is the only U25 classification winner for us so far, having done so twice.

Henao Montoya has the most overall wins for us, with three. Michel Kreder leads both the number of jerseys won and the number of podiums. He has a chance to improve his record this season.
Name | Podiums | RDs | RDs/Podiums | Michel Kreder | 7 | 45 | 6.43 | Wilco Kelderman | 4 | 39 | 9.75 | Sergio Luis Henao Montoya | 4 | 42 | 10.50 | Florentino Marquez | 3 | 44 | 14.67 | Wouter Wippert | 4 | 61 | 15.25 | Lahcen Saber | 4 | 83 | 20.75 | Alexander Krieger | 5 | 116 | 23.20 | Marcel Wyss | 2 | 50 | 25.00 | Andrea Palini | 2 | 58 | 29.00 | Romain Bardet | 4 | 118 | 29.50 | Remco Te Brake | 4 | 119 | 29.75 | Ramunas Navardauskas | 2 | 61 | 30.50 | Jempy Drucker | 1 | 46 | 46.00 | Rui Costa | 1 | 48 | 48.00 | Yoeri Havik | 1 | 59 | 59.00 | Jarlinson Pantano Gomez | 1 | 64 | 64.00 | David Per | 2 | 136 | 68.00 | Pim Ligthart | 1 | 72 | 72.00 | Lennard Hofstede | 1 | 111 | 111.00 |
Kreder holds an impressive record of finishing on the podium every six and a half racedays that he started. Kelderman is the only other rider to have a podium record of less than every ten racedays.
We hope you enjoy looking back on our history with us just as much as we did, rummaging through the archives and bringing out these stats. We hope to make this a regular affair going ahead.
Stay tuned as we look ahead to the new season and the first month of racing in the next post...

Those type of posts are ideal for new managers to get to know the other teams a bit better I'm also quite confident Kelderman will boost your win total quite a lot this season

@Nemolito: Glad you liked it. Hope that Kelderman does indeed improve these tallies, and hope some of the others contribute a bit as well

This history is great to have and I really need to work on it for my team as well as I missed to do so in last 1-2 seasons.
Good to see some of my former riders on that list. Krieger for sure but I think also Ruijgh was part of my debut season (or maybe it was 2nd year) and at 75 mountain, was my best climber back then. |

@roturn: Ruijgh was an excellent domestique the two years he rode for us before declining. Krieger did well in the CT, basically sealing our promotion with the overall win in Solidarnosc but couldn't recapture that form in the next season.
Hope this can motivate you to post your own team history sometime soon

Rider | Role | Wilco Kelderman | Leader | Calvin Watson | Domestique | Romain Bardet | Domestique | Tomas Paprstka | Domestique | Jasper Bioenhuis | Domestique | Kevin Inkelaar | Domestique | Michael Storer | Domestique | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Domestique |
The first race of the season is also our first goal race, and it's a Win goal! Kelderman begins what hopefully is his redemption campaign and we're off hoping he can get off to the best of starts. Watson, as will be the case throughout the season, is his chief lieutenant, helped by Bardet, Storer, Bovenhuis and others. Watch out for Bardet, who's no slouch when it comes to climbing. Expectation: Win (Win goal)
Watch Out For: Romain Bardet
Rider | Role | Nico Keinath | Leader | Geert Van der Sanden | Sprinter | Romain Bardet | Co-Leader | Joonas Henttala | Domestique | Kevin Inkelaar | Domestique | Michael Storer | Domestique | Ide Schelling | Domestqiue |
Nico Keinath starts his campaign as our leader on the climbs. It wasn't an easy decision to choose to go to Tachira, but considering the alternatives, we played it a little safe. We're not very sure what the ceiling is for Keinath at the moment, but we're hoping for consistent Top 5 finishes, but aiming for a solid Top 10 in the GC. With Bardet also riding, we expect points from him as well. This race will also be a chance to see an improved Inkelaar for the first time on his favoured terrain. Van der Sanden is also in the team to try to take advantage of the flat stages. We do not have a full roster for this race, and that will be a common theme across a lot of races this season. Expectation: Top 10
Watch Out For: Kevin Inkelaar
Rider | Role | Bert Van Lerberghe | Free Role | Igor Boev | Sprinter | Michel Kreder | Leadout | Tomas Paprstka | Domestique | Tom Dumoulin | Domestique | Jasper Bovenhuis | Domestique | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Domestique |
Flat races for us this season is more about consistency rather than being spectacular. Boev and Kreder are the designated sprinters for this race, and we hope they can take advantage of the conditions that usually prevail in this race and get a good result. Van Lerberghe rides as a wildcard and we hope he can either aim for late attacks or help set up our sprinters for a good finish. Paprstka and Dumoulin are in with the task of managing the team on the flat roads. Expectation: Top 15
Watch Out For: Bert Van Lerberghe
With the season about to start, we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead. The first month will set the tone in what should be an exciting season. All of our leaders will be in action in different races this month, and we hope they get off the mark well. Looking forward to the racing now

Expectation: Win (Win goal) First race of the season, and it was a Win goal for us.
We worked at the front of the pack to control the break in the first half of the race.
We stopped contributing to the chase in the second half and concentrated on protecting Kelderman. Bardet was dropped early but that wasn't too surprising after the work he had out in earlier.
We did put a couple of riders back on the front with Paprtska leading the field on to the final climb.
We sat back again over the next couple of kilometers. As soon as the Flamme Rouge was in sight, Kelderman accelerated and out himself into the lead.
He would only extend it over the final kilometer and had enough time to celebrate quite early and still take a comfortable victory.
Watson completed the good day's work by finishing 5th.
1 | Wilco Kelderman | Philips | 5h53'53 | 2 | Gianni Moscon | Centovalli - Fiat | s.t. | 3 | Christopher Juul-Jensen | Carlsberg - Danske Bank | s.t. | 5 | Calvin Watson | Philips | s.t. | 47 | Tomas Paprstka | Philips | + 1'19 | 68 | Kevin Inkelaar | Philips | + 2'28 | 90 | Michael Storer | Philips | + 4'51 | 101 | Romain Bardet | Philips | + 5'16 | 136 | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Philips | + 6'26 | 154 | Jasper Bovenhuis | Philips | + 21'05 |
A job well done by Kelderman and Watson to start the season in the best possible way. Our first goal of the season is also complete. We couldn't really have asked for more from our first race.
Our first sighting of both Keinath and Van der Sanden as they start their campaigns for us.
Van der Sanden picked up two 3rd place finishes on Stages 1 and 3 to get us going.
The hilly Stage 4 became somewhat tricky for us with many riders losing time. Keinath was able to stick to the leaders' group and ride to 6th in the GC.
The bumpy Stage 5 was another chance for Van der Sanden. He was in an excellent position at the start of the sprint but a poor team decision to have Inkelaar lead him out cost us dearly. Van der Sanden could only manage 6th from the failed leadout.
The first mountain stage was a snooze-fest as the peloton took it easy allowing the break to take the win. Keinath retained his GC position.
The MTT on Stage 7 proved to be the turning point as Keinath finished 2nd, only behind Pinot, and moved himself up to 2nd in the GC.
Inkelaar also rode a creditable MTT.
On Stages 8 and 9, Keinath rode excellently to stick to all moves made by Pinot and finish on the same time as the GC leader. He finished 3rd in Stage 9 but did lose some time as Pinot picked up more bonus seconds by finishing 2nd.
In the process, he picked up time to all other of his rivals in these two stages and went into the final bumpy stage with a more than 2 minute buffer over Ranaweera in 3rd.
Stage 10 was uneventful for us meaning Keinath had secured 2nd in the GC. He also finished 5th in both the KOM and the Points classifications. Inkelaar finished 6th in the U25s.
1 | Thibaut Pinot | Project: Africa | 35h01'09 | 2 | Nico Keinath | Philips | + 52 | 3 | Suranga Ranaweera | Sauber Petronas Racing | + 2'19 | 42 | Romain Bardet | Philips | + 21'53 | 50 | Kevin Inkelaar | Philips | + 23'43 | 63 | Michael Storer | Philips | + 32'21 | 65 | Joonas Henttala | Philips | + 33'18 | 83 | Ide Schelling | Philips | + 49'19 | 97 | Geert Van der Sanden | Philips | + 1h02'40 |
We came here with modest expectations of a Top 10 finish, because we were not sure how Keinath would match up with the competition. Realistically, we were hoping for a Top 5. To get 2nd place and to have him stick with Pinot all through, was excellent to see. We were hoping for some depth points but that didn't happen. Still, not much to complain about.
Great Ocean Road Classic Review Dumoulin joined the break, our first breakaway appearance of the season.
The break was caught quite early.
Van Lerberghe joined an attack from Olereich along with Katrasnik with 15 km to go.
Van Lerberghe was caught 4 km later and Olereich. Katrasnik went on to win the race.
Paprstka was our best finisher in 25th.
1 | Gasper Katrasnik | Gjensidige Pro Cycling Team | 3h12'23 | 2 | Rüdiger Selig | Bralirwa - Stevens Bikes | s.t. | 3 | Mohamed Harrif Salleh | Trans Cycling Team | s.t. | 25 | Tomas Paprstka | Philips | s.t. | 27 | Bert Van Lerberghe | Philips | s.t. | 34 | Jasper Bovenhuis | Philips | s.t. | 67 | Igor Boev | Philips | s.t. | 70 | Michel Kreder | Philips | s.t. | 73 | Jefferson Cepeda Hernandez | Philips | s.t. | 81 | Tom Dumoulin | Philips | s.t. |
No luck with the late attack but kudos to Van Lerberghe for trying. Boev and Kreder so far down is weird though.

Fantastic start to the season by Kelderman and Keinath
