Ouch I thought that Linus had that one. Next time maybe send someone out on an attack (a support rider) then make Alex counter attack, it uses less energy.

Linus had a higher top speed so that's why Kohl was lucky, would the finish be 1 metre further Gerdemann would have won...

Stage 2, Paarl - Tokara:
It isn't that clear on the profile but the last km is an uphill cobble finish which our Ruski leader Efimkin doesn't really like A big break is formed which looked very dangerous, with 15 kms to go only 3 are left and it's looking good so far!
Left: The original break, Right: Augustyn was again strong, here he is left with Dempsey and Durauer
They last long, but when they approach the 2 km long climb and they look behind them they see the favourites suddenly coming next to them and riding past them, Efimkin is in the wheel of a certain Vanendert and even though he can follow him on the steep part the cobbles destroy Efimkin as he has to let go, Vanendert wins it as Efimkin ends 2nd
Left: Augustyn taken in as he gives Efimkin a little peptalk, Right: A Belgian victory on cobbles in South Africa

1. Jelle Vanendert CHOCOLADE JACQUES - TOPSPORT VLAANDEREN 3h20'38

Giro Del Capo, 6 Stages
Stage 3, Stellenbosch - Stellenbosch:
Probably the toughest stage and the question was whether the Barloworld team could beat the talented Vanendert, Once the rather weak Chocolade Jacques team has caught the escapees Vanendert surprises the Barlo's by attacking quite early, Efimkin has of course no other choice then to counter but will he reach him?
Left: Vanendert is very strong in this tour, Right: Efimkin in pursuit
Efimkin did his best but the close they get to the finish the bigger the gap becomes and so Vanendert takes his 2nd win and probably the tour...
Jelle Vanendert is a bit too much for Efimkin
Result:
1. Jelle Vanendert CHOCOLADE JACQUES - TOPSPORT VLAANDEREN 3h15'36
2. Aleksandr Efimkin BARLOWORLD + 1'20
3. Björn Glasner TEAM REGIOSTROM - SENGES + 1'58
4. Dimitri Claeys DAVITAMON - WIN FOR LIFE - JONG VLAANDEREN + 2'20
5. Simon Kelly MURPHY & GUNN - NEWLYN - M.DONNELLLY - SEAN KELLY s.t.
6 Jonas Landström TEAM CYKELCITY.SE s.t.
7 Roy Hegreberg TEAM SPAREBANKEN VEST s.t.
8 Ryan Cox BARLOWORLD s.t.
9 Jürgen Pauritsch TEAM SWIAG TEKA s.t.
10 Martin Velits TEAM WIESENHOF - FELT + 3'43
11 Timothy Cassidy MURPHY & GUNN - NEWLYN - M.DONNELLLY - SEAN KELLY s.t.

23 Tim Mertens DAVITAMON - WIN FOR LIFE - JONG VLAANDEREN s.t.
24 Jay Thomson TEAM KONICA MINOLTA s.t.
25 Klaas Sys DAVITAMON - WIN FOR LIFE - JONG VLAANDEREN s.t.
Stage 4, Bloemendal - Bloemendal:
Still no stage win, but could that change today? When we start the final climb we decide that we have to pull the trigger so I tell my guys that when the legs fell good, just go for it! And with 10 kms to someone already honors that advice
Cheula has a bright moment and takes off, Vanendert counters him with Efimkin right behind him!
Cheula then stops and is overtaken by Vanendert, Pauritsch and Efimkin join Cheula and with 6 kms to go Ryan Cox joins them with ease because of a very strong attack...Vanendert's lead shrinks every km and with 1 km to go they almost have him
The guys in the group are also tired...will they still catch him?
IN the group I am surprised with Cox' performance because even with the high pace he still has some energy left...is he still able to catch him?
Nope, Vanendert yet again...
Result:
1. Jelle Vanendert CHOCOLADE JACQUES - TOPSPORT VLAANDEREN 3h14'00
2. Ryan Cox BARLOWORLD s.t.
3. Aleksandr Efimkin BARLOWORLD s.t.
4. Jürgen Pauritsch TEAM SWIAG TEKA s.t.
5. Giampaolo Cheula BARLOWORLD s.t.
6 James Lewis Perry BARLOWORLD + 1'45

now the TT...where I lost the overall to Vanendert by 0 seconds. took it back with an attack with 7km to go on the last stage
in your case, however...you don't have a chance anymore

idd, perhaps Barloworld could try to contact him during the offseason? --8)
Milano - Torino
An important race for the sponsor but since the GM is still so happy about performance in the Tour Down Under a win won't be neccesary here, the race was quickly decided when a 18 man break (!) was given the room and with a 8 mins advantage with 80 kms to go the pack fought a lost battle against this huge group, Siutsou was present for Barloworld and even though he isn't in shape he should survive the hill and so he did, 3 guys had to let go and so 15 guys approach Torino and only 1 will win, the best sprinter in the group finished it off as he should do and Siutsou...he ended in the middle of the group, 8th.
Left: What was the pack thinking? Letting such a big group get away? Right: Marco Velo finished it off
Result:

Stage 6, Cape Town - Cape Town:
The last stage takes us from and to Cape Town, right from the start a few guys break away and so a break is formed which is mostly filled with 'nobody's' who are trying to win this final stage. But the pack seems to underestimate the break as they have 3'01" with 30 kms to go and there is 1 guy in the break who they never should have allowed to be in the break...the number 8 in the GC, Giampaolo Cheula
Cheula has been strong the whole tour and now, instead of working for Efimkin he get's his own chance!
Cheula is by far the strongest in the break and the 2 hills give him the ultimate oppurtunity to slip away, his lead on the pack even grows during his last climb
Giampaolo Cheula still looks fresh with 15 km's to go...could this be Cheula's day?
It is his day, the remaining 6 of the break got caught but Cheula kept on going and would win the final stage, he also went from place 8 to 5 which is a nice bonus for Cheula who did alot of work this tour, and well if they the break would have failed we would have also won Van Heerden wins the bunchsprint and ends 3rd just behind Dempsey who was part of the break
Nothing tastes better then a solo victory on the final stage
Result:
1. Giampaolo Cheula BARLOWORLD 2h39'43
2. John Dempsey MURPHY & GUNN - NEWLYN - M.DONNELLLY - SEAN KELLY + 1'23

thanks, Cheula's form is 82pts I believe and yes this is the sprinting Van Heerden (there is also another one at Konica Minolta who's kinda sucky)
Barloworld decides to skip Tirreno Adriatico as the GM thinks it doesn't fit in the schedule
Giro della Provincia di Lucca
Another Italian classic and just like last time a big break gets the space it shouldn't get , so yet again the pack seems to fight a lost battle against this group
A strong break, most notable names are: Guidi, Pedraza, Belli, Ivanov, Tossato and Tonti
But for a moment it seems the pack is going to get them, Baliani and Ignatiev attack from the pack and therefore the sprinter teams work earlier then the break expected them to work, with 15 kms to go some guys in the break get nervous and start to attack and since Guidi is the best sprinter in the group he wants to keep everything together...he almost suceeds as he also catches 2 guys in the sprint but unfortunately someone was out of his reach and so Guidi ends 2nd
Left: Andrea Tonti was the smartest and perhaps the strongest today, Right: Guidi just doesn't reach Tonti
Result:
1. Andrea Tonti QUICK STEP - INNERGETIC 4h06'48
2. Fabrizio Guidi BARLOWORLD s.t.

After a tense week at school (which isnt completely over) there is finally time for some reporting
Volta ao Distrito de Santarem RTP, 4 Stages:
Stage 1, Fatima - Torres Novas:
A stage which offered some breakaway oppurtunities and it was the only non basque in the Euskaltel team who abandoned his group with 30 kms to go...he looked very strong but the intermediate sprint which was just in front of the finish could make sure that his lead will decrease alot in the final kms...and because of the sprint he is caught under the red flag by 16 sprinters who would have 1'30" advantage in the end, the winner is again the mighty Pedro Costa
Left: Unai Etxebarria could have made it...Right: Pedro Costa yet again in Portugal!
Result:
1. Pedro Costa VITÓRIA - ASC 5h02'35
2. Leonardo Duque COFIDIS, LE CRÉDIT PAR TÉLÉPHONE s.t.
3. Anthony Geslin BOUYGUES TELECOM s.t.
4. José Martins VITÓRIA - ASC s.t.

23 Harald Totschnig ELK HAUS - SIMPLON s.t.
24 Jonathan Patrick McCarty TEAM SLIPSTREAM s.t.
25 Hélder Miranda BENFICA s.t.
Stage 2, Abrantes - Cartaxo:
A much easier stage which would suit a big break perhaps...this big break is formed and would stay in front of the peloton!
This group of 13 (a basque would join later) will make it, who will win and who will be the new leader?
As you can see Barloworld has it's guy in the break and he listens to the name Fabrizio Guidi, Guidi spares his energy by not sprinting along and because of this he should be able to win...but Vorganov, Van Poppel and Feillu aren't the worst sprinters! Still Guidi handles the situation like a veteran and jumps out of Vorganov's wheel with 150 metres to go...and takes the win!
Left: The sprint starts! Right: Guidi the stage, Vorganov the jersey by 2 seconds!
Result:
1. Fabrizio Guidi BARLOWORLD 4h18'58
2. Eduard Vorganov KARPIN GALICIA s.t.
3. Romain Feillu AGRITUBEL s.t.
4. Boy Van Poppel RABOBANK CONTINENTAL s.t.
