Fortune favors the brave and so another win for El Flares. What an early spring form he has, great job!
El-Flares really has had a great start to the season, alongside Delaplace and Gadret. If our nominated team leaders (Sicard and Martinez) can start picking up wins as well we could be in for a great year!

Season 2016 – February Overview
Review written by Directeur Sprtif, Alexandre DuBois
Team BPCE-Natixis' first month on the Continental-Pro Tour proved to be a very successful one, with the team securing no less than 6 victories! After a dream start at le Grand Prix Cycliste la Marseillaise, Julien El-Flares, Jon Gadret and Anthony Delaplace shared two wins a piece, and are all placed in the top 5 of the individual Contintal-Pro rankings! Their performances helped propel Team BPCE-Natixis to 2nd place on the Team rankings, less than 50 points behind leaders Cofidis! Our aim for March will be to knock Cofidis off the top spot and establish ourselves as the dominant team on the continental tour!
March will also see the debuts of a number of BPCE-Natixis riders, with riders such as Adrien Petit, Steve Chainel and Lloyd Mondory all set to make their debuts for the team in the coming weeks!
All in all a very successful start to our project, but there is still a long way to go. Long may it continue!

Coming off the back of a successful February, our next race is the prestigious Paris-Nice. The sponsor is desperate for a stage win at one of the biggest events in the French cycling calendar, and has made it one of our major goals for the season! Facing a high quality field, and without a recognised sprinter in the squad, expect the team to be very aggressive, particularly in the mountain stages where Damuseau, Gadret and Gaudu in particular will look to attack while Sicard will ride as our man on GC.

Stage Report – Paris-Nice - Stage 1
Paris-Nice (CWT)
Stage 1/8, 6.1 km Pre-Race Meeting:
Paris-Nice kicked off with a short 6.1 km prologue. With some of the best time triallists in the world in the field (Cancellata, Thomas etc.), we were not targetting this stage as the potential stage win that our sponsors were looking for.
--Race Review --
As expected our riders weren't able to compete with the very best times, with Romain Sicard posting our best time of 7'38.
Simon Spilak (Katusha) posted the best of the early times, setting 7'14. This held until the final few riders when Lars Boom (Astana) went 5 seconds faster! Tom Dumoulin (Team Giant-Alpecin) came close to Boom's time, missing out by only 4 seconds to go second on the road! This left only one man who could challenge the time of Boom and prevent the Dutchman a stage victory: Fabien Cancellara (Trek-Segafredo).
Cancellara pressed Boom close, but ultimately missed out by just 3 seconds to confirm the Dutchman as the winner of the opening stage! With the prologue out of the way, the real racing would stage tomorrow with stage 2 of the Paris-Nice!

There is a top quality field at the Paris-Nice so grabbing a stage win there will be our toughest challenge yet! Expect to see lots of BPCE riders attacking off the front, and for sure Gaudu will be one of the men active in the race!

Everyone on the team is having their first ride of the season, so we are more interested in getting some miles into everyones legs than the result today.

Grand Prix de la Ville de Lilliers Souvenir
Bruno Comini (1.2)
Lillers, 182.4 km Pre-Race Meeting:
Everyone knew what our strategy for todays race was: keep it all together and set it up for a sprint finish. Petit was among the favourites for the race for a reason, and while it wasn't the biggest race on the calendar there were still valuable points up for grabs! We had our full sprint train here to support Adrien, so we were feeling confident going into the race.
--Race Review --
The usual early breakaway went away, formed by 9 riders. Between ourselves and Cofidis we managed to keep the groups advantage hovering around the 5-6 minute mark, so they never looked like staying away.
With 30 km to go, the breakaways lead was down to a minute. Both ourselves and Cofidis had all of our riders at the front of the peleton, alongside Dan McClay and two of his Fortuneo-Vital Concept team mates. With 18 km to go we began to form our train as Erwann Corbel hit the front of the peleton. Erwann led us over the small bump (I wouldn't quite call it a hill), and it was time for the train to really unwind.
Jérémy Lecrocq took over and buried himself for 3 km, before Steve Chainel hit the front and really raised the pace! Chainel really threw down the gauntlet and the Cofidis train couldn't respond, slipping backwards back towards the pack. By the time we hit the 5 km to go banner, the Cofidis train was in tatters and we were flying towards the finish.
Down to our last 3 men, Benoit Jarrier took over. Behind him was Petit's lead out man Lloyd Mondory and Adrien Petit himself. With Cofidis' train back in the bunch the danger man was now Dan McClay, who was well placed two wheels back from Petit. Jarrier took the race to 3 km to go and then launched into his sprint.
Almost immediated McClay launched into his sprint, moving past Jarrier and taking the lead on the road. Sensing Jarrier didn't have the legs to catch McClay Mondory kicked, moving past Jarrier onto McClays wheel. McClay had kicked too early and was starting to slow, sensing this Petit finally launched and moved clear of both Mondory and McClay to take an impressive sprint victory! Mondory was even able to move past Dan McClay on the line to complete a BPCE-Natixis 1-2, with the Brits legs giving out after such a long sprint.
A very successful debut for Arien Petit, who picked up the victory. The sprint train worked perfectly, and BPCE-Natixis secured our first ever 1-2 finish! Hopefully this sets the team up well for the Spring Classics ahead!
Adrien Petit sprints to a debut victory after a perfect lead out from his team mates! La Drôme Classic

Stage Report – Paris-Nice - Stage 2
Paris-Nice (CWT)
Stage 2/8, 192.0 km Pre-Race Meeting:
Stage Two promised to be another quiet day for the team. Pancake flat, this looked like a perfect day for the sprinters. With 7 more days racing to run, the riders would be taking it easy for today and save themselves for stage 3 tomorrow and our first real chance to attack in the race!
--Race Review --
A short, flat stage that went exactly as expected. A small breakaway went out early, only to be reeled back in by the big sprint teams with 25 km to go. Lotto Soudal were the team controlling the peleton with the big lead out train but surprisingly it was Nacer Bouhanni (Cofidis) who was fastest on the day, outsprinting both Andre Greipel (Lotto Soudal) and Mark Cavendish (Team Dimension Data) to take the opening stage.
A very quiet race so far for the team, but that was to be expected. We had always earmarked stages 3 through 5 as our main chances to attack, so expect the team to liven up over the next few days!

Stage Report – Paris-Nice - Stage 3
Paris-Nice (CWT)
Stage 3/8, 212.5 km Pre-Race Meeting:
Stage 3 was on paper another day for the sprinters, but was slightly less flat and slightly longer than yesterdays stage so we would be looking to get a man in the days break. At worst we would get the sponsors jersey on the TV. Romain Sicard, John Gadret and David Gaudu would be taking it easy today, with the first summit finish of the race coming up tomorrow on stage 4!
--Race Review --
After two very quiet days, we were itching to get a man in the days break. When the move came we actually managed to squeeze two men into an 11 man group – Remy Di Gregorio and David Monier. The peleton didn't seem too happy to let the group go and chased hard. The break increased it's pace, and eventually shed down and settled into a 4 man group. The pace proved too much for Di Gregorio, but Monier did manage to make the cut.
Unfortunately the sprinters teams were not interested on missing out on their day, and the breaks lead was kept in control, never moving too far beyond the 6 minute mark. With around 50 km to go, the cohesion of the break fell apart as a flurry of attacks went of the front. All 4 men tried there luck, many multiple times, but noone was able to make a move stick. Eventually the group was caught with just over 20 km to go.
With the break caught the sprinters teams were free to set up the finish for the fast men. Once again it was Lotto Soudal leading the peleton to the line, but this time Andre Greipel made no mistake as he held of Giacomo Nizzolo (Trek-Segafredo) to win Stage 2.
No reward for us today, but Monier spent a long time out in front. Expect more attacks from the guys as the race moves on!

Stage Report – Paris-Nice - Stage 4
Paris-Nice (CWT)
Stage 4/8, 167.7 km Pre-Race Meeting:
After three days for the sprinters and the time triallists, stage 4 of this years Paris-Nice is the first chance for the climbers to flex their legs. After David Monier's efforts yesterday we were once again planning to be aggressive and try to get ourselves in a successful breakaway! Unfortunately Sicard and Gaudu reported having heavy legs after yesterdays stage, so would be trying to hold on to the pack rather than attack today!
--Race Review --
While Sicard and Gaudu reported heavy legs this morning, Thomas Damuseau reported that he was feeing good today! He showed this by attacking early in the race to form a 6 man breakaway. The break managed to build a lead of around 7 minutes at one point, but couldn't build a big enough lead to really put the peleton in trouble.
As well as an outside shot of victory, Damuseau had hoped to use the break to accumulate Mountain Jersey points. Unfortunately the other breakaway members had the same idea and every summit was contested! Damuseau was able to win one Category 2 climb, but ended the day with only 10 points, 5 behind Arnaud Courteille (FD Jeux) who won two summit sprints to secure the jersey at the end of the day.
The breakaway fought hard, but couldn't stop the inevitable as the peleton swept them up with 12 km still to go. Our three main climbers (Romain Sicard, John Gadret and David Gaudu) were all still in the peleton at this stage with their helpers. John Gadret had been eyeing up a potential attack on the final climb, but as the big teams raised the pace on the final slopes it became clear that it would be a case of holding on rather than attacking.
While there were no major attacks on the final climb, the pace was enough to form a number of splits in the peleton. Six riders were eventually able to move away from the field, with Dan Martin (Etixx-Quick Step) winning the final lunge for the loine from Zakarin (Katusha) and Gallopin (lotto Soudal). Behind the leading 6 riders Romain Sicard and John Gadret finished comfortably in the main group, and David Gaudu battled hard to hang on to the back of the group and ensure he didn't lose any time on the day. A tough day in the saddle for our riders, but no major damage done on GC. We go again tomorrow!
Dan Martin proves strongest as he wins the final climb on Stage 4!

Thanks sutty! Paris-Nice is certainly proving a challenge so far. Hopefully the guys can kick on in the last few stages!

Stage Report – Paris-Nice - Stage 5
Paris-Nice (CWT)
Stage 5/8, 191.4 km Pre-Race Meeting:
After yesterdays sprint stage, we return to lumpier roads on stage 5. While not a true mountain day, the route could prove lumpy enough to dispose of some of the pure sprinters and give opportunistic attacks more of a chance at success! John Gadret reported he had good legs this morning, so we hoped he would be able to use them on the slopes later in the day.
--Race Review --
Unfortunately we missed out on the early break today, with our guys all too far back when the break went away. This didn't prove to be too much of a disadvantage, as the breaks lead was down to a minute as the pack approached the final categorised climb of the day.
The Côte du Saint-Uze is where we had planned to make our move. The peleton had been setting a high pace all day, and had already disposed of some of the pure sprinters although Coquard and Greipel both remained in the peleton. David Gaudu was the first to go as he attacked right at the base of the climb. Unfortunately Lotto Soudal were driving the peleton at this point and covered the attack immediately. John Gadret also had a go, as he attacked over the top of the climb.
Gadret was able to get a gap, and quickly bridged to the remnants of the breakaway. He didn't stay with them long with the pack looming behind, and set off alone with 15 km still to go. It would take a superhuman effort to hold off Lotto Soudal from this far out! Gadret gave it a good go, but was swept up with 5 km to go. Although he showed he had good legs by managing to hold on to the back of the Lotto Soudal sprint train!
Lotto Soudal were setting this up for Andre Greipel, and with no other sprinters anywhere to be seen it was his sprint to lose. From the moment Greipel launched his sprint the result was never in doubt, as he quickly had a big gap back to the rest of the field. Behind the German, Phillipe Gilbert held off Nacer Bouhanni for 2nd place, as the Frenchman came from a long way back to take third. The lack of sprinters in the pack was shown as John Gadret was able to hold on to a creditable 15th place in the sprint!
Andre Greipel sprints clear to take an easy victory!

Team took a nice 1-2 there but things not running too smoothly on the road to Nice. The next stages will suit the team better though. Fingers crossed for a Top 10.

Thanks Shonak! Yes, the step up in competition in the Paris-Nice has been noticeable! Hopefully we can sneak a result in the final few days of the race!
Sorry for the lack of updates over the past week or so. Things have got very busy at work, so I haven't had the time to play any PCM. Hopefully I'll be able to play over the weekend and get some updates posted for next week!
