Gemenci Nagydij – Stage 3
More hilly terrain so I hope I can do a podium today to move even further up in the GC. The small climb about 25 kilometres from the finish could provide some attacks but I hope the team can keep the race together because I don’t think I have the form required to go with the attacks so long off the finish.
Another day another TV break.
The final rider of that break Didier was caught on the climb I talked about before by the new Czech RR Champion Danacik who launched the attacks.
About five riders got a gap and at first we though this could be decisive so I was getting a little annoyed that I didn’t even try to go with it. But Mørkøv did a phenomenal job reeling it all in by setting a furious pace, so it all came back together luckily.
On the home straight Stevenson, wearing the KOM jersey, upped the pace to set me and Mørkøv up.
Afterwards Mørkøv took the front and started the sprint.
It looked good for us but somehow Gretsch of Thüringer Energie managed to outsmart the both of us in the sprint, which was quite strange as he is a very poor sprinter. I managed to get into second which means I’m now 2nd in the GC, 8 seconds off today’s winner Gretsch.
The two final stages have flat profiles so the favour me compared to Gretsch, so who knows, maybe I can win this race.

Gemenci Nagydij – Stage 4
The race leader Gretsch can’t sprint despite him winning yesterday, so with a 3rd today I’ll take the lead in this race. I’m starting to have very good legs so I think with the help of Mørkøv I can pull off a very good sprint today.
A break of 7 went away today.
With 25 kilometres to they were caught. Home-favourite Kusztor took some KOM points before the mass sprint.
Mørkøv led me to the front before the sprint, he’s in great form so he will definitely provide me with a great lead-out. I need to get on the podium here.
Mørkøv gave me a solid lead-out, but Serri of Miche came on the left side before I made my move.
No less than 5 riders passed me before I got out of Mørkøv’s wheel this was going to be difficult but I wouldn’t give in just yet.
As the line approached I past two of the riders, so now I only need to get past Abakoumov to 3rd and the leader’s jersey. This was going to be tight. Reihs won the stage while me and Abakoumov crossed the line for a photo finish.
I was given it! I had taken the jersey. I’m on the same time as Gretsch but tomorrow’s stage is a total flat Criterium, so Gretsch can’t pull anything back and also we don’t have to worry about the infamous cross-winds that have cancelled me out before.

Gemenci Nagydij – Stage 5
Two things went through my head all day before the stage took off, the last stage in Paths of King Nikola and the last in Tour de Normandie, where I on both occassions lost the overall lead. Because of this I haven’t won a stage race so far this season but today’s profile looks to be perfect terrain for the team to defend my lead. It’s an 88-kilometres criterium and it’s totally flat, so it should be possible to control it and bring things together for a mass sprint. I’m on same time with Gretsch but my biggest worry is Michael Reihs, who is 15 seconds off my lead meaning he could win this if he wins today’s stage.
The team did a great job setting a strenuous pace througout the day to keep all break within range.
On the narrow streets a lot of riders tried to get away throughout the stage.
But the only thing these breaks had in common was that they were all going to be reeled in and things would come down to a bunch sprint. I sticked close to Reihs and found his wheel as the sprint commenced.
He was the only rider I cared about beating so I just focused to round him.
I forgotten totally about Mahoric who is only 9 seconds after me in the GC and he was in front of me with only a few hundred metres to go. I gave it a last-ditch effort that saw me beat Michael Reihs on the day, but still I was totally unaware about the challenge of Mahoric.
But it turned out harmless as I only discovered how horribly wrong it could have went after the stage was over, I was just so happy I had beaten Reihs. Finally I have won a stage race and eventhough it isn’t exactly the biggest race on the calendar it still feels very nice and I’m very confident now ahead of my final tune-up race for Post Danmark Rundt, Brixia Tour.
Oh yeah, Schillinger won the stage. Mahoric was 6th and I was 7th just ahead of Reihs in 8th.

Has anyone got any idea as to why the following stage looked like it did?
Brixia Tour – Stage 1
Finally a race without a prologue. Only thing is, there are mountains on stage 3 and 4 so despite my good form I won’t be able to compete for the win here. But stage 1 and 2 fits me very well. But this is definitely the most star-studded race I have taken part in. Quickstep is here, Lampre is here, Tinkoff is here, Barloworld is here, LPR is here, Astana is here, Gerolsteiner is here and Milram is here. Some of the biggest riders to take part is Savoldelli, Soler, Sella, Velits, Vila and Wesemann, but there are lots more. But I just consider this a good thing as now I will really be able to show myself off to the ProTour teams against their own riders, so I'm extremely focused on doing well on the two first stages and maybe even in the mountains.
Today’s conditions were kind of strange as all we could see was the road due to the heavy mist.
Surrounded by my teammates and a few cycling stars.
Sacchi was the last breakaway rider to be reeled in with 17 kilometres to go right at the bottom of the final climb. I stayed near the front but the high pace had my helpers let go of the front, so I was isolated.
I’m quite happy no one attacked at the climb because I was feeling a bit star-strucked and I didn’t feel like trying anything. Instead I launched an attack on the flat part 2 kilometres from the finish.
And suddenly I found myself leading as I started to sprint, but Rubiera and Brutt were coming up behind me.
I couldn’t hold them off as Rubiera claimed the stage ahead of Brutt while I took a very satisfying 3rd place.

Brixia Tour – Stage 2
I could easily get use to this. This is like being at the Tour de France for me. Suddenly I’m talking with big stars like Paolo Savoldelli and Mauricio Soler who I have only seen on TV. A few riders from Quickstep and Tinkoff complimented me on my 3rd place yesterday and it felt great to respected by big professional riders. Maybe their Directeur Sportifs have also talked about me? I sure hope so. I could think about that all day, but I had to turn focus when the stage took off, I was really determined today.
Eventhough the stage was only 80 kilometres the pack let a group of 4 riders go clear.
They were caught with 20 km to go though.
The organizers rate this stage as hilly eventhough the only hill is a 3-4 kilometres 2-3% ascend some 8 kilometres from the finish. Still the pace of the pack made the ascend somewhat strenuous, but I was still feeling good and like yesterday I launched a powerful attack with 3 kilometres to go.
It was an awesome feeling to scorch past the Quickstep riders at the front and I was really going faster than I expected because I opened up a good gap immediately. I kept on going and when I hit the final stretch I still had a clear advantage, I couldn’t believe it, I was actually going to win. No way they could catch me now.
And they frickin’ did not. I had won the second stage of Brixia Tour, my first 2.1 victory of the season. I tried to look professional as I celebrated the win at the line but it was hard to hide the delight.
Matteo Tossato of Quickstep was the first rider to congratulate me and it was amazing to recieve props from a veteran like Tossato. Quickstep must really know about me as I have been talking to a lot of them so far. Oh and did I mention that I also lead the race now? I will probably lose the jersey tomorrow though as it’s a very hard mountain stage.
