I suppose you travel a lot then, TMM.
My worst experience was getting out of Turkey, with a 3 hours delay. Nothing compared to you, at least.

I'm incredibly lucky and i know it. My dad works for an airline so growing up i had loads of chances to get around. It's why my dream is to be a pilot and i spend as much time as possible getting out and around.

I've travel a lot and my worst experience was a plane having to make an emergency landing because of low air pressure in the cabin. It was quite a nose dive and a scary ride.
Luckily no major time delays though.

The scariest for me, was flying to Hawaii and about halfway from the West Coast and Hawaii (so like 2.5 hours either direction from a place to land) someone had some sort of urgent medical emergency on the plane. We had to speed up and we got to fly at a higher altitude, but hearing the engines "struggle" as we climbed was also kind of scary. Thankfully we just kept going to Hawaii or else I would have been quite delayed in getting to Hawaii.

Mine is similar, only that a bird wiped out an engine. Oh and one time we landed in a really heavy storm. You know shit just got real when the stewardess gets scared.

It's super safe... blah, blah... more likely to be killed driving to the airport than flying... blah, blah...

It's statistically safe than cycling and american football and wrestling. It's also more environmentally friendly than using a normal car. Frankly there is no reason not to fly beyond convenience over short distances.

The people on-board September 11 were told it was very safe.
The people who landed in the Hudson river were told it was safe.
It's just not worth the risk to me, even if its a 1 in a million risk.

Why would you drive in a car then? Is that worth the risk?

It is less expensive
Plus, I control my own fate by driving, at least essentially.

This is the key issue with people afraid of flying. It's a basic human insticnt. Hell i hate flying commerical because for X hours my life is completely in someone elses hands, and that is fundamentally strange.
Still i can't argue the statistics and facts, as well as the convenience.
Though, statistics mean nothing to the individiual.
Conclusion, who the f*ck knows

That was post #6666. Coincidence? I believe not.
Also, any one of those *googles figure* *is shocked* 33,561 Americans who were killed in car accidents in 2012 believed it was completely safe.
For comparison: In the US in 2012, exactly ZERO people died in fatal accidents involving commercial airliners.

Dunno, don't have a license yet so I put my own fate in other's hands anyway, doesn't matter for me.
Can't imagine travelling these big distances with car anymore, using plane is way more pleasant(and sometimes not much more expensive) and time-efficient.
@Emre
Yeah a couple of times. Your all-in resorts are very nice

More people use cars than planes though Dippo.
Anyway, Dennis Bergkamp didn't like flying, and he's a legend, so there must be something to it.

That doesn't mean that I can't be afraid to do it.. People are afraid of spiders & heights when they really have zero level of danger

I find that hard to believe. Is that 1 car vs 1 plane or 1 plane vs. 100 cars (about 1 car for every 3 people on the plane)

Maths! 0% is still less than 0.1% Why take the chance?
Though my point above is still more relevant than this. Plus my obvious bias...

Yeah, I don't like spiders all that much. And yet, would that stop me going to Australia? Hell no! Buy me a ticket and I'll fly there today!
Just because you're afraid of something doesn't mean you can't do it.
