Andreas Klöden has decided to boycott the press in an effort to lessen the pressure of being a Tour de France favorite and to avoid doping discussions.won't speak with anyone from the press before the Tour. He wants to totally concentrate.
(cyclingnews)
If I ever want to predict something..this is a moment. He will be my man on the TdF if Astana allows.
Or at least Vinokurov gets perfect helper

Problem is he will have to contend with 2 Kazakhs at Astana, and you get the feeling that Vino will end up leader. |

especially when it's Vino's last season.
you just get the feeling that Klöden doesn't want the pressure of being leader. not this season at least.
As for Kash, forget it. even he says he's there to help and will only lead the Vuelta. and that (he says) is if he's not too tired.
which would be understandable, I guess, the Vuelta coming so soon after the Tour, it's hard to keep your form up.

Yes Klöden dont want to be a leader..he almost sayd that he hated that in last year TdF (but still he managed well)...In life that is just this way..in football everyone doesnt want to be a striker (even for me best place on the field was defence line) |

Personally (Not just my personal bias) I think that it is going to take a very strong team to win with a strong leader. Discovery wins the Team Classification and the overall. While we do not have an official startlist, I know that Danielson and Hincapie want to ride. Danielson is the next big star (La Vuelta, 2006)<---- was a big moment in hs life and his carreer. He has said himself that he only struggled because he didn't think he could keep up. Then he won the Vuelta for Vino with that stage win. Hincapie is always strong barrin bad luck, Popovich i believe is also on the roster i think. Contador and rebiera are likely suspects too, maybe Brajkovic. I watched Leipheimer and Danielson go head to head with Simoni on Brasstown bald in the Tour De Georgia and the American Duo dominated. You can't tell me that Simoni wasn't on form because he finished fourth in the Giro a few weeks later. As long as there is no disaster i think we may well see another American on the top step of the podium this year. |

Who are going to be the sprinters?
Is there another team that can effort to have a train as good as Milram? |

this is definitely a make or break year for Danielson. it's his first Tour, so I don't expect him to shine, though.
he might be very good, but isn't "the next big thing" taking the hype a bit too far?
I guess july will reveal all.

Boonen and Hushovd are the only ones who will have a bunch of riders dedicated to them.
Freire will be there in Rabobank's usual "you take care of yourself, Oscar" way.
Bennati and McEwen might have some support, but not that much.

McEwen is still going to dominate the sprints. He is the best bike handler in the buisness and he is very resourcefull. |

honestly, either Boonen's train suddenly gets a clue, or that is exactly what is going to happen. I really don't see Petacchi being able to be in good form for both the Giro and the Tour. then again...he has done it before.
I'd probably watch out for freire too.

I really doubt that Danielson will be anywhere near a top placing in the Tour. I don't think he's nearly as good as the other GC-contenders. Leipheimer will be the leader of the Discovery-team along with Contador -- will be great to see if Discovery can get back to their old domination (although I'd prefer some excitement ) |

I'd love to see new sprint star rise in TdF...some guy for Lampre, Gerolsteiner, T-Mobile and ofcorse Hushovd (he seems to be in perfect age now).
I always liked Freire also

Yes, but lets not forget how McEwen beat Hushovd in every other sprint he won |

if there's a sprint into a headwind, or a very very long sprint (which in terms of spent energy is equivalent to a sprint into a headwind), Thor most likely wins. he isn't as explosive as the others, but with the need for more energy over a longer time....
check his wins, last year:
Tirreno stage - sprint into a headwind
Gent-Wevelgem - sprint into a headwind
Catalunya stage - sprint into a headwind
Tour prologue - short time trial
Tour last stage - sprint into a headwind
can't remember any other wins of his, but in those, you can clearly see a pattern.

I`m hoping for sprints into headwinds then
It is well known that he got a low acc but the highest top speed |

actually, I'd say Petacchi is the best in terms of top speed. the point I was making about Hushovd is how long he can maintain it.

green jersey 'contenders'
Petacchi won't be able to do any good in the tour (if he does feel free to point out i said this);
i think Freire has a good chance;
Boonen absolutley no chance;
McEwen maybe a tad old but one of the main guys to look out for;
Hushovd isn't a consistent finisher imo
so i think it will be between McEwen and Freire, unless a young star has a great tour (all these imo) |
