Vuelta a Andalucía
February 17th-20th, 2014
In contrast to the unpredictable Oman parcours, it's pretty clear what type of riders will dominate here in Andalucía!
The short prologue will likely not have much impact on the overall, given how much climbing the other stages offer. The final stage looks like the best bet for serious gaps, but a majority of the starters will probably already have been blown out of the water before then.
---
On paper, there are two clear favourites in Rodríguez and Quintana,
but a dim performance on Mallorca last week has puts a questionmark next to their names.
Mallorca overall winner Contador might therefore be the biggest favourite. Assisted by an almost ridiculously strong Saxo Bank-team, the aging Spaniard should at least not have to worry about isolation. It remains to be seen who the Danish team's leader will be though, since Kreuziger and Roche were also among the strongest riders on Mallorca.
Scarponi, Hesjedal and Gesink are others who are coming off Mallorca with good form. Kangert will also try to go for a high placing, but might be a little tired from taking the redeye from Oman together with Cazaux, Chevrier, Jules, Martinez and Taaramae. Siskevicius joins them after a short break from racing.

I'd like to know the secrets as well
Hopefully Andalucia can go well for the team, but Saxo will be hard to beat. Especially Contador on home turf. |

All I do is add a bit of sharpness to the pictures. The key is to get the right angles from the start, however. Adding effects isn't going to help if the original screen is crappy!

Vuelta a Andalucía: Stage 1
February 17th, 2014
A quick prologue to get the race started. Really not that interesting to read about, so I'll just give you a very brief summary.
The stage win went to late starter Rohan Dennis. Lieuwe Westra led the race for most of the day, but was eventually 3 seconds short of victory.
Among the overall contenders, Contador was the fastest. Quintana is really the only one who ended up with a notable deficit, though.

Not the worst TT by Kangert, but either Rodriguez has a high Prologue stat or his form his already good. |

72 (same as Quintana, believe it or not)
Prologues do tend to have very random results at times

Had a busy afternoon and no time to report yesterday. I'll try to get two stages up tonight instead, but no promises

Vuelta a Andalucía: Stage 2
February 18th, 2014
Into the hills we go, with a stage that includes a lot of ups and downs. The most challenging part will be the relatively long Puerto de las Palomas, which the riders will crest around 30 km from the finish.
Aside from a failed long breakaway from three riders, literally nothing happens until the point where Contador decides to make Katusha work by attacking a couple of kilometers from the summit of Palomas.
It's a very strong attack that initially creates a 45 second-gap for the former Tour winner, but he is eventually worn down and caught on the tough up-and-down section following the climb.
Katusha's lifted pace has in the meantime brought the number of riders in the group down to a mere 27, with names such as Hesjedal, Scarponi and even Contador's own luxury team mate Kreuziger, missing. Along with them, also 2nd and 3rd from the prologue: Westra and Amador
With eight kilometers of somewhat dangerous descending looming ahead, Kangert tries a little attack on the last remaining little bit of uphill - bringing impressive race leader Rohan Dennis with him.
Dennis sits up behind Purito's Katusha-train shortly afterwards, but Kangert pushes on through the technical bends. He can't quite pull out more than 10-15 seconds, but still a little headstart for the tough uphill sprint.
A good enough headstart, as it turns out! Purito relied on his team mates for too long, and couldn't even save the day for them with a patented 1 km-rush.
Henao was also very strong and really challenged Rodríguez all the way to the finish. He came up just short and had to settle for 3rd, however.
15 seconds lost for the group makes Kangert the new race leader! We'll try our best to defend it, but I reckon it'll be hard to control Purito.

Kangert has been on fire for you lately! That was a good move too! I still feel like its a bit of a problem with the gameplay in the game that somehow, if the leader gets X gap in the final 10km~ of the stage, they basically just give up or they do chase, but somehow cant lower the gap down. Seems weird that a group that large cant atleast slowly bring the gap down of one rider like that.
But anway, it was a good win! Timed the attack perfectly.
