My Football
Season going to start in 3 weeks time. Year 11 and starting Left/Right Back isnt too bad I believe. We should be pretty good this season if players are not injured.
Golf
I dont play but I have a friend who plays quite often who is pretty good. And you can play a round of golf in Auckland for less than $20.

Anyone else play goalkeeper for their football or soccer team?

I was just wondering, since goalkeepers are quite rare. I'm one myself.

I don't understand football at all. Everytime I play my single goal is to charge opponents and get a solid takeaway. Truthfully, I don't even know the rules of American Football.

If you talk about soccer, then I hate players like that (no offense). I hate how they have no technical skill whatsoever, and aren't at all good, but they charge at you and you can't do anything. At my school we have to improvise and play on a thin area in the playground with a much smaller ball, and last year this REALLY aggressive guy played a few times and I couldn't do anything, because he just charged at me and there was nothing to do. And this coming from (I don't mean to brag ) the best player in the grade

As a guy who played more than 6 years as a defender, I totally disagree with you, Cycleman. Defenders has to be in absolutely best psychical fitness (talking about condition, form, ability to run and to be as fast as much lighter guys, to jump, to be very strong and much more in the same time) and the main job of defenders is to stop the opponent (of course, not to seriously injury him or something). Simple as that.
Football is MUCH more than just technical skills (doesn't mean you can play without having some), and it's i'd say 80% about the tactics, strenght, condition, form, endurance and stuff like that.

I agree with Admir there. I'm a defender myself(a back, so that's a bit different). You really need more than just strength. It's definitely not easy, plus, the defenders always have to take the blame when you lose, which is really annoying. As a back, you need to be fast(at least on the first meters), you need to have technical skills, you have to pick the right moment to intercept, you have to avoid ''falling for'' the tricks of the strikes, avoiding making fouls, being good at heading, etcetera.
Also, strength is not enough, you have to know how to use it, and at what moment to use it.
For example, I don't even really have that strength, but I'm able to win physical duels because I know when to use my strength.

Er, not really. You?
Not at all.
In Belgium, the first four divisions contain teams from the whole country.
From the fifth division, only teams from a certain province compete.
I'm in the fifth division, but since I'm only 18 years old and the youngest GK in our squad, I play most of the time with the second squad.
But our second squad took the title this year. With only one game to go, we still haven't lost a single game |

I don't think that's semi-pro yet. Not sure when that starts in Belgium, probably the ''Derde Klasse''?

@ Jesleyh & admir: I agree with what you say, but don't deny the advantage of good positioning.
The defense that has won us the title are not the fastest guys, but they both are good positioners. The tallest guy heads away almost all crosses, the somewhat smaller guy is really strong in one-to-one duels, wich really helps to get some clean sheets
EDIT: @ Jesleyh, no, in Dutch mine's called 'Eerste Provinciale', still two divisions under 'Derde Klasse'. According to Wikipedia, there's no real distinction between professional and what we call amateur football.

Jesleyh and Admir:
Perhaps you misunderstood me. I play defensive mid, and quite often defence. I don't think for one second that it is easy or people who play defence don't have any skill. I meant players who don't do anything but as soon as they see someone on the ball and just charge at them with no brain and just come sprinting at the ball with no awareness of their surroundings.

I was only fast, I didn't need any of those other stuff to be pretty good at what I did |
