TimoCycling - Oh I don't know it by hard but If I remember it correctly it was something 78 climbing, 79 hills, 81 acc, something. Not a lot of time trialing, though.

Jesleyh - Oh I don't mind so much giving out stats now, it's a team story Wink If you all want, I can implement the team stats in the next blog.

Selwink - Hope to score something in La Primavera! Hoogerland with a weird but good result indeed Pfft

baia - I agree, thanks Wink

MrUfo87 - It's never too late for wishing good luck, thank you! Hope you'll enjoy it. Grin

welker3257 - Yes, he was Smile I first wanted to start a career with him but then decided on a team career/story but I kept him in the database to spice things up Wink

547984 - At least he's good for something at the moment... Cool

sutty68 - Thanks! Kid's got talent, that's for sure!

Thank you all for following, great to see so many people out there enjoying this Wink (well, that's what I hope anyway)

Today I'll try to get La Primavera done. Shouldn't be a problem!

MILAN - SAN REMO

La Primavera.

To be honest, I always found this a boring race, even when I was a rider. It's too long, 300 km. At least in modern cycling. But no worry, I came here fully motivated. Despite having started pretty well with our team, we need to UCI points!

imageshack.us/a/img197/1329/von5.jpg

This is what I said this morning in the team bus.

General Tactic: Save all the energy you can for the Poggio and the finale. Don't follow any earlier attacks, unless Sagan or Chavanel are going.
Specific Tactic: Greg, ride aggressively. The Poggio is your friend. Bob, Guillaume, feel free to attack. Tyler, you're the main sprinter. Jens, do the lead out and collect water bottles.

SQUAD: Tyler Farrar, Jens Keukeleire, Greg Van Avermaet, Bob Jungels, Guillaume Van Keirsbulck, Lars Petter Nordhaug, Enrico Battaglin, Rik Steenacker.

I decided to bring Rik here. 300 km is long for a 20-year old, but he's not here to win, well I don't expect him to, anyway. He's here to learn!

THE RACE

Bob Jungels surely has an amazing spirit. The catboy was off at the word 'go'. Joined by some other guys, they formed the leading group for over 5 hours!

imageshack.us/a/img547/9597/3d29.jpg

Then, as expected, the race settled down. There were minor attacks nearing the Poggio, but the real explosion came at the hands of Ballan, Nuyens, Sagan and Greg Van Avermaet, who escaped at the foot of the Poggio. Rik Van Steenacker gave Greg a fighting chance by dropping the pace at the front. I'm not even sure left that gap intentionally, since the race' length was really getting to him. His race was over after that, anyway.

imageshack.us/a/img42/8865/2ccs.jpg

But unfortunately, in the final straight line, Sagan and Greg, the only remaining attackers, were caught by the sprinting mob. Kristoff surprised the world by winning, quite closely, from Goss!

imageshack.us/a/img690/9162/umvs.jpg

Greg held on to a sixth place, while Tyler managed to get into the top 10, just. All in all not a bad day, we scraped together some points here.

But more noticable is that Pieter Serry, who was in the leading group going into the final kilometer, broke his chain coming out the final corner in pole position. He couldn't keep his bike straight and he fell: broken collarbone.

RECRUITMENT

The season is young, but we're already busy scouting for future riders for our family/squad/team. We can't say much about it but I can see I recently added Dennis' brother to the list, Jelle Vanendert. He has a lot of talent but we believe he's not coming to his fullest self at Lotto.

I won't be going to Spain now, instead I'll be following the Cobbled Classics as a DS. I'll report you from the E3! See you then, but first I have some tough decisions to make about the starting 8 there...

DWARS DOOR VLAANDEREN

Approaching the 4 Cobbled Classics, we entered Dwars Door Vlaanderen with one purpose only: to win it. Preferably with Greg Van Avermaet, to fuel up on confidence.

And so we did...

E3 - HARELBEKE

This was small potatoes in comparison with today's race, however. E3 - Harelbeke. The first of 4 Cobbled Classics.

After a couple of bad falls, David Veilleux felt ready for today, so I selected him. Others in the selection include Rik Steenacker and Benjamin Verraes. Noticable absent is Jens Keukeleire. I decided on sending him to Catalunya.

imageshack.us/a/img10/9718/ri35.jpg

David got in the breakaway. It's becoming our team's specialty. It's good to see him in a good form already!

imageshack.us/a/img69/791/yxs4.jpg

The team did their best and everybody worked together hard to make the race hard for Greg, who was the absolute leader today. We could use the points!

Ripping the field to pieces, team work

Four men got away, and we couldn't get organized quickly enough. They would be sprinting for the win. The four were Roelandts, Sagan, Breschel, Hushovd.

imageshack.us/a/img5/6704/iqoj.jpg

In the end, Roelandts surprised Peter Sagan by coming from behind so quickly! A Belgian victory here in Harelbeke.

In the sprint for place 5, Greg showed his power by taking it easily. We wonder what could have been without those four at the front...

KEEPING A CLOSE EYE

The biggest disappointment of the day is probably Rik Steenacker. He spent the first two hours at the front, seemingly ready to work. But when it really mattered, he was nowhere to be seen. He finished an obscure 84th.

I know it's his first E3 and I should take that into account and blah-blah-blah, but I'm not running a popularity contest here. He's young, he's talented and if he'll listen to me he'll be the next star. I give him this chance but I expect total obedience in return.

I'll have a word with him later on.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's only one day. He had a good season so far, better than that deadbeat son of mine (kidding, love you, son, if you're reading this).

See you for Gent-Wevelgem!

Great win for Van Avermaet and a sixth place is good as well. Milan-San Remo wasn't a bad race for you.
