Vuelta 2015 will start inn Emmen, with a TTT and 4 other stages in the Netherlands.

Richie Porte has also renewed his contract at Sky.

Stupidity, although flat stages in Netherlands can be more interesting than 150kms of flat in Spain ending with wall every day...
Still it should be Vuelta Espana.

You are right Avin. BTW, do they still have the plan to start a stage in Sneek and then take on the 10 other Frisian cities?

EDIT: Saw it was not Sneek, but BolswardFrown Thats a very short stage then.

if history taught us anything for a dutch rider to win a GT he must
1. win the Vuelta first
2. first name starts with a J
3. be born in South-Holland

History can change.

In 10 years, someone will post about the same, but like this.
if history taught us anything for a dutch rider to win a GT in the modern Cycling he must:
1) Win the Giro U25 jersey first
2) first name starts with a W
3) Be born in Utrecht(province, not city)

so they are going to take Zoetemelk's and Janssen GT wins, otherwise that statement is unvalid

Can anyone explain to me what's so great about watching a cycling race en course? Drove 3-4 hours last year to see the Giro, saw riders passing by for 10 seconds, then just barely saw the podium ceremony - and then went on a 3-4 hour trip home.

Same experience at other races although I did enjoy the World Championships slightly more.

Same here, although I didn't need such long trips to watch some Vuelta stages a few years back. But never went again because I prefer to watch them on TV clearly. I guess some races with good atmosphere (Worlds, Ronde, perhaps also the Champs-Élysées stage) may be worth it though.

Depends on the race...
2012 Olympics on Box Hill. Loads of laps so lots of action. I was right next to a big screen and a bar so lots of drink and could watch everything. Fantastic atmosphere etc. etc.
Went to ToB in Guildford. Again great atmosphere, finishing straight, big screen etc. etc.
Tour Series in Woking same again

Well, if it's the first time, it might be nice to see them all in real-life.
Also, I wouldn't ride 3-4 hours for it, but if it's just 15 minutes away, why not?

I can see the appeal of a circuit race and/or next to a big screen with live action. Other than that I watched a stage of the Tour de France whizz by but given I only had to walk to the end of my road the fleeting glimpse justified the effort required! David Millar was KOM that day too!

I'd turn it around and say: Why?

If you're actually interesting in seeing the race, watching it on TV is a much better option.

I went to the the WC in Valkenburg and the Amstel Gold race this year. It was a 40min ride (iirc).
I like to go to Valkenburg: nice town, great race and the Dutchies know how to make a good atmosphere.
