Stage 3
The first really difficult stage of the Giro. In this race, we have two climbs of the second category, and the top of the last one is just 20 kilometers away from the line. The race will probably be too difficult for sprinters, so the favorites are punchers, downhillers and a break.
****Vincenzo Nibali
***Philippe Gilbert, Samuel Sanchez
**Sergio Henao, Alejandro Valverde, Joaquim Rodriguez
*Ryder Hesjedal, Daniel Martin, Luis Leon Sanchez, John Degenkolb
Vincenzo Nibali 2.05
Philippe Gilbert 2.40
Samuel Sanchez 2.85
Sergio Henao 3.40
Alejandro Valverde 4.15
Joaquim Rodriguez 4.80
Ryder Hesjedal 5.75
Daniel Martin 6.50
Luis Leon Sanchez 9.00
John Degenkolb 14.00
Another rider 1.80

For this stage, there are better riders than him. For the higher hills/mountains he is there. Count on Gilbert if you support BMC!

Sorrento - Marina di Ascea
Good afternoon everyone. Today we have the first real difficult stage of this edition of this Giro. With 2 climbs in the end and a very tough downhill to the finish, everything is possible: a sprinter, a break, a puncher or even a GC-contender. We shall see soon.
With 110kms left, we get to show you some live footage. A break of 6 riders is ahead: Ratto (Cannondale), Rabottini (Vini Fantini), Pinotti (BMC), Roelandts (Lotto), Tschopp (IAM) and Bonnafond (AG2R) They have had a maximum lead of 8min58, but this has already decreased to 7min22.
The pack has been lead by Movistar, Astana, Lampre and Sky. They are already working to reel the group in.
Sprint 1 was already won by Ratto, ahead of Pinotti and Roelandts.
At sprint 2, again Ratto. Tschopp is second this time, Roelandts third again.
On top of the Mercato Cilento (Cat.2), Tschopp takes the points ahead of Bonnafond and Roelandts.
On the sides of the Cilento, several riders get dropped, including maglia azzurra Bandiera.
The pack reaches the top, 58kms from the line. 4min24 later than the group.
On the sides of the Sella Catona, chaos! Many breaks from the pack, but Sky pulls them all back. Chaos also in the break, only Ratto manages to stay away from the pack.
On the top of the Sella Catona (Cat.2), Ratto is still ahead on his own. In the pack.
Pellizotti, Mollema and Moreno break away and get a small gap. They follow at 42 seconds, the pack at 1min05.
The next rider to make a gap to the pack is Kiserlovski. The other riders are already reeled in, apart from Ratto.
With 15kms left: a crash of a favorite: Betancur is in a very uncomfortable position.
With 6kms left, Kiserlovski gets joined by Gilbert. Ratto still has 27 seconds to them and 1min16 to the pack.
1km left: Ratto still holds 36 seconds to the pack, that has reeled in Kiserlovski and Gilbert.
At the line
He has made it! What a great victory for him!
Gilbert wins the bunch sprint, ahead of Cunego, Valverde and Chavanel. The pink is for Gulbert, the white goes to Van Garderen. In the stage results no time gaps, but Ratto really arrived solo, so in the point count this will be a solo.

Evans finished 4'46 behind, sucks for the BMC manager. At least they have Gilbert in pink now.
Movistar did a good job keeping the pace high, Valverde fourth, and none of my riders lost time!

BMC does have no1 and 2 in the GC however. Valverde had even attacked on the Catona, but he couldnt get away, even though together with Quintana, Weening and Basso. Sky all kept it together, only Ratto was too strong
