Paris – Nice
March 5th, 2013
Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines – Contres: 198.4 kms - Flat
Day two of the Race to the Sun is a flat road to Contres and sets up for the sprinters. The GC favorites will try to stay out of trouble as the roads going into town could see some rain and makes the conditions at bit less favorable.
Only a small breakaway of three would survive to be the BOTD, Anthony Geslin (FDJ), Wesley Kreder (Vacansoleil) and BMC's Adam Blythe. The intermediate sprints would be won by Kreder and Geslin respectively.
With the peloton chasing hard to catch the breakaway Blythe would attack to see if a solo victory would be possible. Unfortunately the move wouldn't work and Adam would be brought back into the peloton.
Just over 1km from the finish Guillaume Boivin (Cannondale) would lose control and start a pile up of bikes and riders. The "oh $#!T" moment captured well by this photo.
Many riders were caught by the crash, some ended up on the ground, other forced to slow down for the mess. Breakaway star Adam Blythe caught the worst of the damage and is out of the race, prognosis for him still to come.
The front of the race though was unaffected, and Matthew Goss (Orica) was able to easily sprint for the victory, Thor Hushovd made a veteran move, sitting on his wheel and able to take second, Lloyd Mondory (AG2R) finishes third.

Adam Blythe injury update
Adam Blythe will be out for a couple of weeks, likely until April, with a small fracture. He was planned to race in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, instead Amaël Moinard will race, and Blythe will take his spot in the Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco.

Tirreno – Adriatico
March 7th – 13th, 2013
PreRace Guide
Tirreno - Adriatico pairs nicely with Paris - Nice giving more a chance to prove themselves in the early stage races. Our own Cadel Evans won here two years ago before going on to win the Tour de France later that season. Cadel will again be starting his seasons stage races here.
BMC Startlist
Leader: Cadel Evans Sprinter: Daniel Oss Free: Marco Pinotti Team-mate: Yannick Eijssen Team-mate: Sabastian Lander Team-mate: Klaas Lodewyck Team-mate: Taylor Phinney Team-mate: Larry Warbasse
Team Goals
Like Paris - Nice, the team wants to win, Cadel Evans has won before, and we would like for him to get a second victory. Many of our Italian riders will also be here as this is a big race for us and our sponsors. While there is no TT for this years edition we would still like for Pinotti to get a chance for a stage win as well. Daniel Oss will be our best sprinter, and hopefully he too could get a stage win or lead the points classification.

Paris – Nice
March 6th, 2013
Contres – Limoges: 199.8 kms - Flat
Stage three is another day for the sprinters, the race heads a little uphill, but nothing big enough for the climbers to create a gap. There are KoM and sprint points available so there will be some competition in the breakaway.
Five riders formed the BOTD. Sadly Moinard was not among them as BMC would have liked. Though Moinard was able to grab the first KoM that came early in the race. Wouter Mol (Vacansoleil) will wear the KoM jersey starting tomorrow.
The crash yesterday caused some major problems, the crash today would be no different as US National Champion, Timmy Duggan, hits the pavement right in front of three riders also about to meet the road.
The damage from this crash would be extensive, and several riders would lose time, with Damien Gaudin (Europcar), Sylwester Szmyd (Movistar), and Ben King (RSLT) all withdrawing due to injury. The list of leaders who lost time was also extensive, Jean-Christophe Peraud (AG2R), Robert Gesink and Bauke Mollema (Blanco), Moreno Moser (Cannondale), Christophe Le Mével (Cofidis), Jurgen Van den Broeck (Lotto), and Vasil Kiryienka (Sky).
As with yesterday though, despite the crash, Matthew Goss goes on to easily claim the stage extending his lead in victories on the season. Borut Bozic takes second ahead of Thor Hushovd who continues to have an exceptional sprint so far this season.

Paris – Nice
March 7th, 2013
Saint-Yrieix-La-Perche – Aurillac: 208.3 kms - Flat
Stage four of Paris - Nice is a unique challenge, the finish comes after a very short quick climb, that the sprinters shouldn't be troubled by, but the last quarter of the race follows a longer climb that could put the sprinters in trouble.
The break of the day features three riders, the big winner of the bunch being Pablo Urtasun (Euskaltel) who takes the KoM jersey, Frederik Willems (Lotto) and Amaël Moinard. Julien El Fares (Sojasun) would join them for the last half of the race.
With El Fares and Urtasun still in front and an uncomfortable distance ahead of the peloton, Omega Pharma - Quick Step would be forced to lay down a very hard pace with many of their riders up front.
Tejay Van Garderen takes a chance attacking over the final short climb, he is able to cruise by Julien El Fares and has no one left between him and the finish line. Will he be able to hold onto the lead?
The tactic doesn't help Tejay any as the field comes sprinting by him, with Luis León Sánchez (Blanco) taking the stage in front of race leader Sylvain Chavanel (OPQS) and Thor once again just missing out on a victory, but on the podium again.

Tirreno – Adriatico
March 7th, 2013
Sabaudia – Sabaudia: 176.6 kms - Flat
Tirreno - Adriatico starts with a flat route, with only two bumps in the road being called climbs. The early lead in the King of the Mountains granted though for the first over them. A flat finish should make for an excellent sprint for a field loaded with the best sprinters in the world.
With no early breakaway out front the first sprint point would go to the aggressive riders in the field, Alexander Kristoff (Katusha) would get to an early lead, followed by Mark Cavendish (OPQS) and Daniel Oss.
Eventually the BOTD would form with Manuele Boaro (Saxo), Martijn Maaskant (Garmin) and Klaas Lodewyck. Klaas having to bridge to the first two would never really be able to recover and consistently be third among the group. Italian Manuele Boaro will start with the KoM jersey.
The mass sprint would be set up, and Tom Boonen would excel in his new role as lead-out man for Mark Cavendish, setting him up for the win, though from a longer distance than they would both like. Francisco José Ventoso (Movistar) would nearly catch Cavendish, and André Greipel (Lotto) would finish 3rd.

Paris – Nice
March 8th, 2013
Maurs – Mende (La Croix-Neuve): 172.8 kms - Hilly
Stage five of Paris - Nice is where the favorites will make their mark as the race features its first major climbs and a steep mountain-top finish. To make things even more difficult the weather is terrible and rain is pouring down all over the course.
The break of the day features some of the better riders that have lost significant time because of the two previous days crashes. Moreno Moser, once the team leader for Cannondale, is able to get in the break, but is over 6 minutes off the lead. Ameäl Moinard is again in the break and is able to get the KoM points uncontested, giving him the lead in the category.
With on the first smaller climb the attacks begin, and Thomas Voekler (Europcar) gets them off to a powerful start, with Simon Clarke (Orica), Kanstantsin Siutsou (Sky) and Romain Hardy (Cofidis) on his wheel.
Once those are pulled back it's time for John Gadret (AG2R) and young phenom Nairo Quintana (Movistar) to take a chance on the decent to get away. The upcoming final climb features a section well over 10%. Some of the BOTD is also still out front including Marano Moser (Cannondale).
Next now on the final climb, Simon Gerrans (Orica) and Damino Cunego (Lampre) take their chance of getting away from the front runners, as the peloton becomes thinner quickly with riders dropping off the back.
Dan Martin (Garmin) finally leads the attack that catches the rest of the BOTD, Rui Costa (Movistar) and Maxime Monfort (RSLT) right behind him. Dominick Nerz is still with Tejay Van Garderen putting him in good position.
And Dan Martin goes on to win, Luis León Sánchez (Blanco) right beside him for second, and Maxime Monfort finishes third. Others start filling in time gaps behind them wondering how far back they will be starting tomorrow. Race leadership changes as Maxime Monfort takes the overall lead, and Tejay Van Garderen now leads the young rider classification.

Somehow a nasty gap formed and some of the major riders seemed to get caught back. Froome wasn't riding as if he is the leader for the team though, he was taking some pulls early for Sky.
EDIT: Wiggo is team leader for them this race.

Tirreno – Adriatico
March 8th, 2013
Sabaudia – Tarquinia: 211.7 kms - Flat
Stage two of T-A is mostly flat except for one climb that stands out as a long gradual ascent and descent with a slightly uphill sprint finish. There is a chance for a puncher to make a move either on the climb or later in the hilly finish, but Peter Sagan looks to be perfectly suited for this race.
A strong group of four form the break of the day with Matti Breschel (Saxo), Manuel Belletti (AG2R), and Koldo Fernández (Garmin) contesting the intermediate sprints on the course, the group would be completely overtaken on the climb though.
After the descent, on the short but sharp climb still a decent bit out from the finish Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel) makes a very daring attack, putting some more pressure into the field and forcing up the tempo.
As virtually everyone predicted though, this was a race for Peter Sagan (Cannondale) and was his to win. Francisco José Ventoso (Movistar) does a great job finishing 2nd and holding onto his points classification while John Degenkolb (Argos) takes 3rd.
