Bonnen and Cav will destroy Lotto and Gripel at the Tour!

krisa Thanks for mentioning . Of course I knew but i clicked the wrong flag - Chile - Czech are one next to the other .
I will edit it .

wogsrus You are very confident . Thanks , but we must not underestimate our opponents and prepare 110 % for the Tour .

It's time for Vuelta Algarve !!!

bikesandbidons.files.wordpress.com/2013/02/volta-ao-algarve-2013-logo.jpg

It's a 5-day race , containing 3 flat stages , 1 uphill finish and a ITT in the last day . Tony Martin won here in 2011 , let's hope he will do it again now . He showed a good shape in Qatar , having a crucial role in Mark's sprint train and with a 24 km ITT I think we have pretty good chances to win the GC.

Line-up

Stage 1

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0012_zps5a27b720.jpg

It is a hilly stage , even if the last 20 kilometers are mostly flat . We must be very careful , stay all the time in front and try to control the race .

The first intermediate sprint was at km 15 . No break-away was formed yet so we did not want to miss the opportunity of getting 6 bonification seconds . Tony Martin gave it a try and won the sprint .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0014_zps9a9c6bd9.jpg

Then the BOTD was formed . Boeckmans , Matysiak , Stortoni and Andriato tried their chances.

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0015_zpsb68813fd.jpg

No team wanted to chase and their lead was at 5 minutes with 45 kilometers to go . Then Euskaltel and BMC started to chase really hard . Here you can see that at the front of the peloton was actually Samuel Sanchez , who was supposed to be their leader .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0016_zps3c370b40.jpg

Seeing that the escapees still had a comfortable lead a few riders decided to make a move . These riders were : Hushovd , Gilbert , Dumoulin , Van Hecke , Scheirlinckx , Roy and I.Izagirre.

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0017_zps6300a2f6.jpg

After 5 kilometers another group of riders attacked from the peloton : Boom , L.L.Sanchez, Leukemans , Marcato , Barta and Cardoso .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0018_zpsd1163ffc.jpg

This is what was left from the peloton . We were the only team willing to work in front , because we were th only ones who did not have rider(s) in the groups that attacked earlier .
Chavanel , Stybar and De Weert wre trying to reel in the attackers . Sami Sanchez , Cunego and Betancur were also in our group .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0019_zps64985023.jpg

Stortoni made his move with 8 kilometers to go .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0020_zps6364a43e.jpg

Here is the situation at this moment of the race :

Stortoni

Gr. Boeckmans + 20sec

Gr. Gilbert + 45 sec

Gr. L.L.Sanchez + 1 ' 10 "

Gr. T.Martin + 2 minutes

With 4 kilometers the go , the Boom-L.L.Sanchez caught Gr. Gilbert . They were at only 25 seconds behind the 4 riders from the early break-away , as Stortoni was caught .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0021_zps2563f8b8.jpg

And Boeckmans takes the win in a sprint !

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0022_zps4e27bfea.jpg

It was a crazy stage , lots of things happened but in the end if we look at the results it is not very good for us .

Stage 2

Again it is a hilly stage . Let's hope that today we will be stronger and make the right decisions because we can't afford to lose more time .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0031_zps4c4b4b68.jpg

Just like yesterday the first intermediate sprint was placed at the beggining of the stage . No break-away so Tony Martin won the sprint and took those 6 seconds .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0032_zpsb16a869d.jpg

After this the BOTD was formed by Van Winden , Jeannesson and De Clercq . They seem to be quite strong and their maximum lead was of 6 minutes .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0033_zpsb3191530.jpg

On the last climb of the day we came at the fron of the peloton and Rabon with Pineau set a face past . Many riders from the peloton were dropped , but the escapees still had a comfortable lead .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0034_zps52202b61.jpg

At the top of the climb 4 riders attacked : Betancur , Cunego , Konig and Commeyne .Thanks to Cunego they were really fast on the downhill and created a 1 minute gap to the peloton .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0035_zps869a488f.jpg

With 10 kilometers to go they caught the riders from the early break-away . The only sprinter of them was Commeyne and he had no problem taking the lead . Nice move by Cunego and Betancur as they gained some time in the GC .

Stage 3

It is probably the most difficult stage in this Tour , the only uphill finish . Let's hope that we don't lose time much time compared to Gilbert , Betancur , Cunego or L.L.Sanchez , as we are already pretty down in the GC .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0045_zps8d1b5ac2.jpg

Look at the intermediate sprints . Both of them in the first 20 kilometers , we had a chance to grab 12 seconds . Tony Martin made his move and took the first one !

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0046_zps8563074a.jpg

The second one as well ! Mission accomplished ! Now we will try to rest for the final kilometers of the stage .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0047_zps22e6bbf6.jpg

On the third climb of the day , with 15 kilometers to go Leukemans and Gilbert attacked . But we were at the front of the peloton and thanks to De Weert and Pineau we caught them .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0048_zpsa93695bd.jpg

But on the last climb of the day they tried again . This time : Izagirre , Gilbert and Boom . The only rider left to help Tony Martin was Chavanel and he was pretty tired .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0049_zps8eaeaef2.jpg

No rider was strong enough to create a gap so it going to be decided in a sprint ! The winner : Leukemans !

Thanks to the intermediate sprints that he won and the 5th place at the end of the day tomorrow Tony wyll wear the Points Jersey .

sutty68
That was a lot better Wink

Nice riding from Tony Martin Wink

alex valceanu

Thanks sutty68 . I really hope that this stategy - winning intermediate sprints - will work and he will not be too tired at the ITT from the last stage . Wink I will post the reports of the last 2 stages in a few hours .

sutty68
Looking forward to them Wink

After a tough start, Martin doing lots better!

Stage 4

It is the only flat stage in this Tour and definitely the easiest. As probably no important riders for the GC will attack the most important thing to do is to rest for the ITT .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0056_zpsdffc04d3.jpg

Again the first intermediate sprint is placed right after the start of the stage . A good opportuniny to grab 6 bonification seconds and defend our Points Jersey .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0057_zps5c599fbf.jpg

Then the BOTD was fromed by : Zabel , Durasek , Britton , Marycz and McEvoy . As no important sprinters were in the peloton , no team was interested to chase .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0058_zps30f3094e.jpg

With 15 kilometers to go their lead was of 10 minutes . After they all worked to create this gap it's time to think how to fool your break-away companions and get the stage win . Durasek attacked and he was followed by Britton .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0059_zpsa4e0aa87.jpg

They were caught with 500 meters to go and the fastest of them was definitely Rick Zabel . Good win for the promising young sprinter .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0060_zps40ad2915.jpg

The peloton was riding very slowly so Tony Martin attacked with 8 kilometers to go and take advantage of this thing .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0061_zps85ef7fd3.jpg

But immediately the other teams responded and he realied after 1 km there is no reason to waste his energy .

Stage 5

Here it is the final stage of this Tour . A 25-km ITT , that will probably change a lot the GC . Tony Martin is by far the #1 favourite of winning this time-trial , now let's how much time he can gain in the GC .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0068_zps7b2c4667.jpg

Here is our man : Tony Martin . 15th place in the GC at the start of the race we expect him to move up to a podium place .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0069_zps59802ab4.jpg

Here is the Spanish TT champion , L.L.Sanchez . At the start of the stage he was named the #1 favourite at winning the GC . Meanwhile we found out that Tony Martin set the best time at the first time chack , with almost 20 seconds faster than the previous time .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0070_zpsad49020c.jpg

Here is Lars Boom , former Dutch ITT Champion . He is a good TT-er , with a good chance of moving up some places in the GC.

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0071_zpsda090239.jpg

Philipe Gilbert set off , wearing the KOM Jersey .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0072_zps49d086ce.jpg

Tony Martin passed Bart De Clercq and set the best time : 33' 27" . Chavanel did a very good time-trial he is 4th now .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0073_zpsbdeb7dbf.jpg

L.L.Sanchez finishes : 1'07" behind Tony .

Boom finsihes : 1' 13" behind Tony .

Gilbert finished : 1' 34" behind Tony .

This is the last man to finish the tace : Bjorn Leukemans . His results.... very disappointing 2' 51 " behind Tony Martin , who won for the 2nd time in his career Vuelta Algarve !Banana

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0074_zpsddeb6575.jpg

Congratulations Tony !

That was an awesome TT from Mr Martin Grin

And it gives him the race victory as well Grin

alex valceanu

Thank you Selwink . I actually thought that I lost all my chances at winning the GC after stage 1 but in ended very well for us . Wink

Thanks sutty68 . In all the tours that we won ( Etoile de Besseges , Tour Mediterraneean and Vuelta Algarve ) , the TT had a crucial role in deciding the winner and each time Stybar and T.Martin showed how strong they are . Smile

alex valceanu

So another Tour is about to start for our team . After a race in Qatar , it is another one is Asia : Oman . It is a 6-day Tour , with 1 MTF , 1 hilly stage and 4 flat stages , from which 1 has an uphill finish .

Line-up

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0024_zps1389101d.jpg

Just like in Qatar , our leader is Mark Cavendish . This time he can't win the GC becuase of the MTF , but this can't stop him from getting some stage wins and fight for the Points Jersey .

Opponents

*** Matthew Goss , Peter Sagan
** E.B.Hagen , Elia Viviani , Francisco Ventoso
* Greg Van Avermaet , Bernard Eisel , Fabian Cancellara

Stage 1

This is probably the only stage from the 4 flat stages that is for pure sprinters , like Mark , so we can't miss the opportunity to get the stage win and also the Leader's Jersey.

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0023_zpsfdaa0fe5.jpg

2 riders tried their chances and went in the break-away , but they had no chance and they were caught with 25 kms to go .

With 15 kilometers to go we were already in front , as Mark was the only sprinter with a "train" . Keisse - Vandewalle - Steegmans - Meersman - Boonen were in front of Mark .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0026_zpsdb5922f3.jpg

With 5 kilometers to go Steegmans was in front . He was supposed to lead us until the last 3 kilometers , from where Meersman would take over . Sagan , Nizzolo , EBH and Van Avermaet were fighting to get Mark's wheel .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0027_zps5fadbf71.jpg

Only Boonen was left with 1.8 kms to go . Sagan already started his sprint and EBH followed him .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0028_zps048d415b.jpg

1 km to - Mark starts his sprint . EBH and Sagan were in front , but I think they started the sprint a little bit to early and they will tire until the end .

i1152.photobucket.com/albums/p495/usuperstar/PCM0029_zps3c5038be.jpg

Cavendish takes the win ! Smile
