An Post Ras - Stage 5
Tipperary - Carrick-on-Suir (Seskin Hill)
Ok the "hilly" stage. Described so because of the finish up Seskin Hill. While yes that is a tough climb the rest of the day is not hard enough to create any significant gaps. Still we will try!
164km to go
Right, lets keep near the front today. Don't worry about any breaks. Lee its your job to protect Michal
131km
Finally some attacks! And its the usual suspects. Derler(TIR), Werst(TRS), Pereira(PRT) and Katyrin(TIK) are the ones. Let them go
100km
You still ok? Keep hydrated etc, etc, This is one boring ass day
35km
KoM result, Pereira then Katyrin then Derler then Werst. Gap is 4'16. Lee time to turn on the gas!
20km
Gap is 2'55. Pete aid the pull with Lee. Just us working, but thats fine
10km
Gap is 2'00... Scott and Phil aid the work. Lee you can sit up. Peloton is stretched behind, but not broken.
Also attacks flying in the break
5km
Really push it now guys! Push push push! Break is all together about 1'30 ahead
2km
Break starts the climb together! Phil really drive hard on the low slopes!
1500m
Katyrin attacks the break! They are about 1'20 ahead!
Scott open the taps, Michal follow him! Gap behind, drive on drive on!
1000m
Werst and Pereira lead the break.
Michal i need you to give 100% now! Groenewegen is starting to move up as well behind
500m
Ok Michal keep driving! You've passed half the break! Scott doing well, Groenewgen is trying to get to you
FINISH
Werst holds of Pereira for the win. Michal you took 3rd, great finish! I put the Yellow Jersey group at 20" behind you...

Comment
Successful in the fact we took back some time. Not good in the actual amount of time we took. Again i have questions about how the Officials measure gaps, but i'll let it go. We are still in a great position, and just need to push on again on the final three days. I can see the lads are getting more tired each day so we still have to measure our efforts carefully.

Note: I have changed the Team Palmares so that now it only shows podiums. Slightly tidier and easier to read

27th May 2013
"Far better is is to dare mighty things..."
There is a lot to say here... Would have been a day sooner, but i've been "resting" if you know what i mean . Not that it makes all that much difference, but anyway.
I won!
Woo yeah, go Karl etc. I must be honest, i didn't think my first win would come in Aberyswyth. Its a very tough steep hilly route, and i always thought of myself as a flat cobbles type rider. But i will take it with open arms. Managed to get away early one and build a good advantage. I had Malcolm almost constantly talking to me over the radio, making sure i spread my efforts out equally. Luckily the chase took a while to form as well, and when it did we had some guys in there to disrupt it as well. I barely felt that final climb. I mean my legs were shot and hardly moved, but i wasn't hurting. Oh! and the feeling of crossing the line as a winner! Best moment of my life... well second best... no no third best
But before that there was the podium in Kirckaldy in Round 1. That was a significant moment. I got in the break with two other guys. As we got near to the finish we all knew i had the best sprint. They tried to force me to pull, but i sat back. We rolled very slowly all watching and waiting. Cooper got the jump on me. I let my concentration slip and he pounced. By the time i'd got onto him i didn't have the energy left to come round him. To come that close to winning was such a disappointment. I didn't sleep well for days, all i could think of was "What if..."
I only really got back in the right mind for Redditch, where i went mental. Every move i wanted to go with, and i worked by ass off for the team. Watching Rowe take the win was the personal vindication i needed to recover. And then of course there was Aberystwyth.
So i've been out celebrating the last two nights. Plenty of place in Aberystwyth thanks to the Uni, then also back in Bristol visiting my Dad (but he didn't come out with me). So i am now a winner, and in a top level UK event... I imagined people would know and recognize me. Not really, no. Just as invisible as ever to women (except Lucy).
Right, before this gets too long. I wish luck to Mikel and the guys in Ireland. Thanks you to all of you who keep reading. And i'll write again after the end of the Tour Series.
ok, so i lied... blasted 3 stages in 1 hour... so yes.. reports!

An Post Ras - Stage 6
Carrick-on-Suir - Gorey
Today is an interesting one. The back half of the stage is packed with climbs, but they are all fairly short. And the final kilometer itself is uphill. We are outright favorites to win the day, but we need to put pressure on Groenewegen for the GC. We'll see how the day plays out.
132km to go
Right, big day for us. Stay close the the front while the break forms. Then drop back until the climbs begin. Pete shelter Michal as much as possible
130km
Didn't have to wait long today. TIK, BPC and OPM sending riders on the attack. As usual let them go
128km
And PRT, EPM and BUR also want in on the move. 6 man group is ok but no more. I'll get names in a moment. You can start to sit in a bit more.
120km
Ok the names are: Zverkov(TIK), Dahlheim(BPC), Cooper(OPM), Casimiro(PRT), Riviera(EPM) and Santamaria(BUR). No threats at all
57km
KoM 1 taken by Dahlheim ahead of Santamaria and Zverkov.
This is where the day really begins. Pete set a pace on this climb and see what happens.
55km
KoM 2 is Dahlheim then Zverkov then Cooper.
Pete keep the pace up. Not shedding riders, but stretching the field out.
53km
KoM 3 is Dahlheim again, then Zverkov and Santamaria.
Pete swing off, Michal time to shine! Put down a pace and see what happens. Don't go with him guys let the other teams hold him in... if they can
50km
Ok Michal your solo. Press on and catch the break! They're all looking at each other behind.
40km
KoM4 was Santamaria ahead of Zverkov and Dahlheim.
Michal you are 1'55 behind but that is falling rapidly. You hold 1'32 over the peloton, which is a fairly stable gap.
Its RIJ, RB3 and EFG sharing the chase.
30km
KoM5 was the same as KoM4... Michal you are very nearly with the break, keep going!
27km
Ok nice job Michal thats the break. Now keep on pushing. If anyone stays with you great, if not doesn't matter.
23km
KoM6 thats yours Michal, Santamaria on your wheel then Dahlheim.
Keep on pulling! You can do this!
20km
Official time check!
E1 (Kwiatkowski, Santamaria) 15" E2 (Cooper, Casimiro, Riviera, Dahlheim, Zverkov) 1'14 Peloton
13km
There is a crash!! Its Vilela(EFG)! Thats disrupted the chase a little!
10km
Might be time to give in... Gap is only 56" and falling... Yeah Michal sit up. We will focus on the sprint now.
9km
Ok thats the catch...
Start organising for the sprint! Lee your in charge of that.
8km
Groenewegen has attacked!!!
Lee chase that!! HARD! We can't let him slip away!
6km
Well done Lee, you kept that under control! Now relax, we don't want to get swamped again.
Scott control is over to you! This sprint is perfect for you.
3km
Stay aware guys! Your starting to slip backwards! Michal take over the pull!
2km
Phil time to move! Really getting swamped again now...
1000m
Scotty fire those engines!!! GOGOGO
500m
Theres a gap! Punch it!
FINISH
OH YES! Great win Scotty! Groenewegen is 2nd but you've gained back some seconds. Zabel was 3rd. Nicely ridden boys. Ok the attack didn't work but it put the pressure on.

Comment
The cracks are starting to show. When Michal attacked the chase was labored, and it really took all three teams to bring it together. 6 stages is a lot of racing... I think we can break them and win this thing.
The finale went well. Our lead out got swamped, again, but Scotty polished off the stage with a well timed sprint.
Node4: 9/10
An Post Ras - Stage 7
Gorey - Kilcullen
Now this is a good looking stage. Two heafty, steep climbs in the final third, and a couple more climbs in the back stretch for good measure. But there is also tomorrow, with a set of hills really close to the finish. Today i will have to make the call... I hope i make the right one.
155km to go
Right guys. Just sit in the peloton... etc etc you know the drill by now.
146km
And its CJP opening the attacks. TIK going as well.
143km
A PRT rider is trying to bridge. Doesn't look like any other teams are interested today.
140km
The break is Lammertink(CJP), Katyrin(TIK) and Rodrigues(PRT). Might want to keep an eye on this one, Rodrigues is only 11is down.
85km
The gap is 9'20. Lets start the chase. Lee and Pete thats on you. Take it steady though.
Michal how are you feeling? Recovered? hmmm... We'll see ,ok.
51km
KoM1 was Lammertink then Katyrin then Rodrigues.
Pete up the pace see how the peloton reacts. Michal... I don't know...
40km
This is the steep section! I just don't know...
...
...
.... Go big or go home!
39km
Go big or go home!
Lets do it Michal, all or nothing! Make the move...
36km
Top of the climb! Michal thats the break, what a move to catch them already!
Gap is 52", keep pushing there is no chase... repeat no chase!
34km
They are forcing Groenewegen to chase! RB3 are not going to help today!
The rest of the RIJ boys are struggling to hang onto the peloton! We are breaking the race Michal
23km
Thats KoM3 for you Michal. Only Katryin left with you, but push on!
Gap is 2'02 and RB3 starting to help now.
Michal you a tearing the race up!
15km
You are no well solo Michal. Gap is 2'04! Keep driving! The chase is out of steam!
We've done it, Groenewegen is broken! RIJ is broken! RB3 are broken! The whole damn race is shattered behind you!
10km
Yes my boy, gap is 1'44! Come on come on come on, just give it your all!
3km
Gap is 1'48!!! Just push that bit more Michal, that bit further!
Scotty and Phil just sit on Zabels wheel as RB3 are the only train today.
1000m
YOU'VE DONE IT!!! 1'48 still! Michal you utter adonis! Enjoy the moment my friend
...
Scotty and Phil just go for it! Eveyone else is dead, so lets make this a perfect day!
FINISH
And that is how we do!!! Michal that was sheer class!
Scotty and Phil what a performance... Just an absolutely inconceivable result lads... i am speechless...

Looks like i made the right call... Groenewegen cracked today. We did what we could not do at Le Triptyque all those weeks ago. This isn't so much about winning the race as it was about proving that we could win... if you get what i mean. This is a vindication of sorts for us. Now all we have to do is go out one last time and make it over that line.
Node4: 10/10
(Note: I genuinely did not mean to get a 1-2-3... all i did was click follow zabel and it just sot of happened... sorry if it seems too easy and therefore boring to read... the challenges are coming!)
The final days of the race. The real hard work is behind us and we can relax and enjoy the day. The sun is out, its hot but with a nice breeze. The route suits us... Perfect way to round of a great race!
137km to go
Final day guys. Stay out of trouble and stay sheltered. Enjoy yourselves for the first half. Lets try and see if we can set up Phil today, get him a win on home soil.
122km
Guess whos attacking. Yep its TIK and BPC.
117km
Got a PRT rider going to bridge now.
115km
And two more, from OPM and TRS... Didn't see any threats
100km
Sorry for the delay, names! Kaperasov(TIK), Derler(BPC), Casimiro(PRT), Retschke(TRS) and Cooper(OPM). Its more dangerous than i thought. Be prepared to chase
78km
RB3, RIJ and EFG are starting to make a chase. Gap is 7'30
52km
Kom1 won by Cooper, beating Derler and Retschke
36km
Kom2 was Retschke over Casimiro and Kasperasov. They aren't contesting them and just driving on... I'm not liking the look of this...
20km
Gap is 1'33. Pete and Davis start aiding the chase now. We can take control from here.
10km
Gap 1'28! Ermm.... pull harder? Its these damn hills!
3km
Kasperasov has gone early in the break! He has 15", then its another 1'00 to us. Phil lead it out, we can still catch them!!!
1000m
Kasperasov still solo, just. We are in reach if we keep pushing! Scotty you are going to need to give 200% here!
FINISH
ARGH! So damn close... Retschke stormed through to take that ahead of Casimiro and Cooper. Frankly a break did deserve one win, so at least it was this one. Scotty you won the peloton sprint, and were given the same time, nice job.

WOOO HOOO!!! There we go! 1-2-5 in GC. 1-2 in youth. 1 in points. 1 in team. 2 in KoM. Plus several stage wins and podiums. Terrific race. This is what happens when you have in form riders and competition not on quite the same level.
Very very happy this evening. More will come in a blog
Found a way to combat the easyness of results... Quick-sim! Here is a quick round up of the final Tour Series Rounds. After this there will be both a Mikel and Karl blog before the nationals.
Tour Series Round 6 - Peterborough
Team: Rowe, Cronshaw, Rogers, Bialoblocki and Sampson
Rowe and Cronshaw finish 1-2
Tour Series Round 7 - London
Team: Rowe, Cronshaw, Rogers, Bialoblocki and Hammarling
Holohan wins, as Rowe comes 3rd
Tour Series Round 8 - Torquay
Team: Kwiatkowski, Clarke, Barker, Hammarling, Thwaites
Kwiaktkowski wins solo with Thwiates 8th
Tour Series Round 9 - Colchester
Team: Rowe, Cronshaw, Rogers, Bialoblocki, Davis
Clancy wins as Rowe comes 6th
Tour Series Round 10 - Stoke
Team: Rowe, Cronshaw, Rogers, Lavery, Thwaites
Holohan wins, with Rowe Thwaites and Cronshaw in 5th 6th and 7th
Tour Series Round 11 - Woking
Team: Lavery, Thwaites, Bialoblocki, Hammarling, Barker
Selander wins with Lavery and Thwaites 7th and 8th
Thanks all... gives me motivation (well more motivation)
@bikeroel unlikely, i try to use it as a point of focus/can't be bothered to press a button

"There are no shortcuts to any place worth going"
Well that was a race! Massively successful for the team. Top results, experience for the riders and experience for me. I know we were favorites, but that doesn't guarantee anything.
Full plaudits go to Michal who was just outstanding. He put in the effort for Scotty on the flat, and laid down devastating pace on the hills. Those two long range attacks are a call back to traditional racing, none of this power meter set pace stuff. It was simply go as hard as possible and hope it worked. Lucky it did.
An 8day stage race is certainly different to a one-day classic. There is a lot more organization needed. Every night you have to hand out the kits, radios and stage plans. In the morning you've got to make sure they eat properly, sort out there in-race feed bags and get them warmed up all before sign on. I know the riders have tough days in the saddle, but i was up till 1-2am every night making sure everything was perfect. As such i also have to say a massive thanks to Jake the mechanic, Hanson the soigneur and Ozzy my assistant. I couldn't have done everything without them.
So whats next. Well i'll be off the Poland for the Nationals. I will be working with Marcin and Michal in their attempts to take the titles available. And that will be my last race of the season as a DS. Though it certainly won't be the end of my duties. As soon as i am done there it's onto Transfers. I will be in charge of handling all negotiations and general transfer related business.
On that note i bring some sad news. Both Rico (Dene Rogers) and Lee (Davis) have confirmed that they will retire at the end of the season. Both riders have been with Node4 since they took over as sponsor, and Lee as part of the outfit even longer than that. Things will not be the same here without them racing. Currently we are trying to convince them to take on some sort of trainer/adviser role at least for next season. But its not all bad as both Scott (Thwaites) and Yanto (Barker) have re-signed with us! Yanto is on a provisional 2 year contract, but he can leave if he choose to retire. Scotty has signed for 3 years.
I'll do a more transfer specific blog sometime during July or August when things have been happening and confirmed. I won't blog until then, but i will report on the Nationals.
Signing off

"You have to keep looking forward"
Wow that was a busy time! The Tour Series is much tougher than i expected. The racing is fast and relentless and the transitions are further than you think. Having said that they the most fun i've had whilst racing... partly because i won one.
But i already covered that in a blog. Although it still feels amazing. But i am nowhere near to Luke! The man has been on fire this season and is really racking up the wins and the points. As has Matt and Scott and Michal. Just outstanding from everyone. Which we hope to keep going with the Nationals.
So the Nationals. Last years route was tough and did not really suit us. But with the move back to Stamfordham things are looking good. Its a flat route we can really make a challenge. Ok ok we are not on the level of the Missile or Swift but since when has that stopped anyone. Plus i will riding the TT, so that will be a tough double header. Relishing the opportunity to really test myself against the very best in the world.
And there is yet more news! I have resigned with Node4 Rexona for another season. They have really made me feel at home over the last year and a half, and their intentions match very closely to mine. If we do get to PCT then there is nowhere else i want to be. And as i keep improving they have promised me a lot more personal opportunities next season. It is only a 1 year contract. But that was my call. While this is a great team they can only take me so far as a rider. I know i'm still young but i really feel i can offer something up to a big team in a year.
But i don't what to get to caught up with those thoughts yet. So onto nationals and more it is.
i apologize now for the lack of UK RR detail... got really annoyed with the ai

Road Race
Full 8 man team: Rowe, Cronshaw, Thwiates, Barker, Hammarling, Davis, Magnier, Williams
Plan is to get 2-3 riders into the break if possible.
193km to go - The riders begin the day
189km - First attacks come from JTL(Sky), Baylis(MGT), Metcalfe(PRT), Griffiths(IGS), Horton(UKY), Oliphant(RAL), Barker, Cronshaw and Hammarling They form the break
this is where i got annoyed... Pretty much constant attacks from the break until 80km to go.. Then again all the way through the final 20km
Of course everytime no-one would chase so we had to... so we had less energy somehow...
anyway...
FINISH - Horton edges the small sprint finish!

Well that was tough. Constantly having to work, so that Matt would have a chance. But we couldn't manage it... Oh well, we'll have out revenge when the Premier Calendar starts again
