Arg, forgot about Agger..Actually he is the only one we have climbing into the World class Bracket..
But id trade him for a decent striker any day...

England coach Steve McClaren has called up striker Darren Bent to his squad for the Euro 2008 qualifier against Croatia at Wembley on Wednesday.
B)B)B)B)B)
finally Bent is given a chance, seen as Owen and Rooney are out, he may start up front with Crouch. Although i was looking forward to Defoe and Crouch upfront, Bent can be just as good

Bent i still remember his effort against Arsenal this year whilst i was in the "Champions section" of white hart lane, still makes me laugh. So well done the England manager you're picking a guy who couldn't hit a boat if he was standing in one for your jobs futureB)

It could be worse, he could've picked...Vassell
Now that guy really couldn't hit a barn door from 5 yards
I know Bent is in bad form but as with Defoe, he needs to be starting games and with so many strikers at Spurs, it's difficult, as much as i hate Robbie Keane, he does work brilliantly with Berbatov

Vassell actually used to be quite good for England, but only if used as a sub with 10 minutes left. If he started he was absolutely useless, and now he's as bad as Fowler

I remember when Vassell started his England career
He used to be very stocky, strong and fast, now he's just fast and crap at everything else

Remember the overrated CM01/02 players?
Youssouf Hersi, Richard Knopper and Cedric van der Gun were absolute heroes for the Dutch and in real life Knopper now plays for ADO Den Haag in 1st division, and I don't even know where the feck Hersi and Van der Gun play nowadays
Or what about Tieme Klompe, Ruud Kras, Andy Van der Meyde...all predicted legends, never made it irl |

in real life:
Knopper was a starter for Ajax, top scoring midfielder in the league...and suddenly was sent away. attitude issues must be the only explanation.
Hersi was in terms of sheer talent the best to come from Ajax's schools in god knows how long. but talent isn't everything. mindset and luck are two huge parts.
I should know. I have a special interest for youth football, and I can tell you that I've seen about 5 or 6 players more talented than C.Ronaldo at age 16 in Portugal alone (this country produces an insane amount of wingers) and only he has made it big.
the latest case: Fábio Paim. amazing, unbelievable. I still remember the under-16 title that sporting won where the team was him+David Caiado+9 crappy others and they dominated because of him. then the injuries hit hard and he lost a few years on his development. now he's 19, on loan to a second division team and even his style of play is completely different and nowhere near as aggressive.
I've ranted, but my point is that you never know how one's going to develop. potential is easy to spot, but each time you take the 10 best youngsters, for one reason or another, only about 5 make it professionally and about 2 or less make it as top-division players.
take Portugal's several european and world champion youth teams. look how many of those guys made it. and look who the stars were.
the u-16s who won about 7 or 8 years ago, a certain SÃlvio (god only knows where he is) was the star. Quaresma was his substitute
about Cedric van der Gun:
EDIT: according to Ruud aka random football fanatic I met last summer, van der Gun is at Utrecht and Hersi is the star at Twente

Oh I could name 15 other Dutchies that should have done better.
What's also weird, lately we've taken over from Portugal at winning U21 titles, last 2 european championships were won. But as soon as these guys reach the 'big' national team, they suck as much as the others. |

well, I think it's a bit the fault of hype as well.
Maceo Rigters and Ryan Babel above all are one-dimensional and overhyped.
there's also a "problem" with the dutch league. it's very attacking, with the highest goals average around. the problem is that someone scores thirty-odd goals one season and then goes to another league where he won't score nearly as much and will be perceived as a failure.
aside from van Nistelrooij no one's repeated their goal tallies in other leagues.

who could forget "Batman and Robben"?
but Kezman (aka "Batman" ) has one bigger issue: he's a jackass.
out of curiosity, you seem to be a PSV fan, is that right?

I'm going to assume he plays for VVV because if he's at Ajax he must be about 14 for me not to have heard of him

He plays for VVV and he is their star player, without them VVV would really be dead last. But thanks to him they are 15th atm. He also plays in Holland U21 and is one of the star players there |
