Yes, I know.
Still, I don't see Duyn keeping it, unless the next 14 stages will all be flat/slightly hilly Wink
Just a shame that Koga Cycling doesn't participate(since they're not in Daily DB). Wim Stroetinga is a pretty good sprinter(He's a free agent in Daily DB, since as said, Koga isn't in the DB Pfft )
Edit: @Luigi Yeah, waiting for that too. At least he rides for a Dutch team...

But never mind that, I like the report Grin

Week 2 kicks off with our first summit finish of the tour, is the Vosges. They may not be alpine size, but the climb up Les Planches des Belle Filles is the first real test for the GC men, 5.9km at 8.5%.

The day contains 2 other difficulties, the Grosse Pierre (3.1km at 6.4%) and then the Col du Mont Du Fourche, (4.2km at 6.9%.) It should be an interesting day in the Underdog Tour, as we see which of the better climbers are feeling good, a week into the race...

The Race

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0001-99_zpsc47a8b7b.jpg
Mcgowan (Uk Youth) and Reynés (Nutrixxion-Abus) were keen to make something of today, they put in the first attack, trying to get clear of the peloton.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0002-87_zps3436a2a8.jpg
They didn't get clear however, Itera-Katusha did the work to reel them in, and it quickly became clear why, as KotM jersey holder Solomennikov! He follows the move with Boifava(Team Idea) and Lalouette(Roubaix Lille Metropole)

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0003-86_zpsbcb64a06.jpg
Seeing the trio being allowed clear was enough of an impetus for several other guys, 4 men bridged the gap, Slik(RaboCT) Benetseder(Vorarlberg) Atkins(Bontrager) and Driscoll(Jamis-Sutter), forming the BotD

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0004-90_zps95ee6324.jpg
Only the four secondary arrivals contested the sprint, with Slik easily holding off his rivals for the 1st place. Behind, Flahaut chose not to contest the lower points, and a strong sprint from Ljungblad, saw him bring his rival back to within 2 points distance!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0007-82_zps086694e6.jpg
The KotM sprints were likely to be the biggest contest of the day for the break, with the peloton almost certain to shut them down before the final climb. On the first, Solomennikov tried, but couldn't beat Ivar Slik over the climb for the 2 points...

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0010-94_zps48350df0.jpg
And on the second climb of the day he couldn't get close to matching Boifava up the Cat 2 climb, giving Boifava the provisional KotM jersey comes the end of the day!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0011-75_zps1df85817.jpg
For the first time in the race, we saw big actions from some of the GC teams. WiT (L.Zanasca) and Competitive Cyclist (C.Grajales) both picked up the work in the chase today, and stopped the break ever turning into a major threat!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0013-84_zps6a2230db.jpg
With 20km to go, and the peloton breathing down the necks of the break, Solomennikov decides to go for a last ditch effort before the climb, it's shut down though, and the breaks gap is just melting now.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0016-59_zpsc0eb5d3e.jpg
With 10km remaining, the break are being dangled out in front, they clearly haven't got enough of a gap to win, but they're giving it everything lead by Driscoll down the final descent, to the base of the climb to the finishing line...

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0017-43_zps092ca988.jpg
The Pre-Tour favourite for most, Joe Dombrowski is the first man to make an attack on the slopes! It doesn't seem overcommitted, but more to show his rivals he's feeling strong today, meanwhile, Rabo Conti keep the pace high in the peloton, working for climber Marc Goos.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0018-42_zpscb8efd5a.jpg
The biggest effect of Dombro's attack, is probably the end of the break, the catch being made 6km from the finish, as they reach the true start of the climb to the summit...

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0019-47_zps510a560d.jpg
And as they get caught, D'Olivier of Rabo goes on the attack, He's a very outside favourite, it seems more likely he's getting himself out there for leader Goos to have someone to aim at later in the climb!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0020-25_zps8f36a766.jpg
With 4km to the line, what looks like a favourites group puts in a big dig. Grajales, Stevenson, Mccarthy, Dabrowski, D'Olivier and Dombrowski make the move, whilst the De Rijke team take up the pace, for Huub Duyn who is still climbing remarkably strongly!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0021-25_zps3c4063d4.jpg
With 2500m to the line, it has just come back together once again, Duyn is starting to suffer but still hangs on in the 60man group, whilst the Swedish Stevenson decides to go again, trailed by the Austrailian Jayco rider, Mccarthy.

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0023-19_zps416e0406.jpg
With no help from anyone, Joe Dombrowski brings the peloton group back to the front duo with just 700m to go! Impressive. More impressive, is that no sooner has he brought it all back after 1800m working on his own, he then opens his sprint and passes the duo, whilst leaving the peloton behind!

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0024-19_zps47068b20.jpg
400m... Mccarthy isn't a great climber on paper, but he's the only guy matching Dombrowski's sprint currently! Amazingly, after looking like he was in huge trouble just 1000m ago, Duyn has come back strong, and is even mixing it in the mountain sprint! Grajales has only just opened up on the left, and is on paper the best climber here, can he shut down the gap?

i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o527/Baggieboys32/PCM0025-24_zps884f8533.jpg
He closes the time gap, but can't get beyond either of the front duo! Dombrowski takes a hugely deserved stage win, though gets no time gap due to the small gaps between the front few riders, Grajales makes it onto the podium, whilst the Maillot Jaune Duyn, sprints into 5th place, meaning he will keep the jersey at least for a while longer!

Yay, Duyn still in the lead Wink
Not that hard to predict who will win the GC, Dombrowski I guess...
Although Grajales is a better climber 'on paper'
When will the next challenge be there? Pfft
