AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
Buninyong – Buninyong – 160.2km
Fabio Calabria
Four riders have been away sine the fourth kilometre, including our sole representative in the race Fabio Calabria, he was joined by Brown/Rabobank, Rudolph/Drapac and Lang/Rapha Condor and between them they managed to get a lead of just over three minutes, but that has now crumbled to 1m 11s.
The original breakaway was caught just after the 90kilometre to go banner and soon afterwards a fresh break was started, it included two riders from UnitedHealthcare B.Day and R.Sutherland and B.Grenda/Rapha Condor, they currently hold an advantage of 1m 19s.
The three leaders have increased their lead to 4m 3s due to the fact they are working very well together
Team Sky and Orica GreenEdge have decided to come to the front of the main pack and share the pace setting in a view to recapturing the breakaways
As the race behind them starts to hot up with several breaks going off the front of the peleton, the three riders at the front realise they are living on borrowed time and decide to put one final big effort
With just 10 kilometres of racing left to finish the lead is 1m 27s back to a chasing group of five riders who include a lot of the pre race favourites
Ben Day/UnitedHealthcare has seen an opportunity to attack out of the breakaway and has gone off alone to try and ride to the finish, knowing that his team mate behind him will not aid in the chase
With just one kilometre to go to the finish he knows he has the title in the bag but he will not ease up until he has crossed the line
And he does it in Great style, Ben Day is the new Australian Road Champion 2012

UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling Team
Fabio did a brilliant ride today to get a top ten finish whilst riding for himself compared to GreenEdge and Team Sky who had many riders. We asked him just to go out and enjoy the day and breathe in the atmosphere and boy did he enjoy it.

Yes, I like the reporting style too...
A shame that Calabria couldn't get in the break with Day, but still a nice 10th place...

A Top Ten is a nice start especially because Calabria was alone and surely not th strongest. Like your reporting way |

Very original report, love the style. And a decent result in the first race, hopefully a sign of what's possible in the future.

Nice report Sutty. 1 comment: try to zoom out in 1 or more of the screens. All are pretty close, so you can use variation by using the mouse and right click + ALT (or left click + ALT, I keep forgetting it). Hopefully the 2nd report comes faster than the first
