Busy day tomorrow with work with press conferences (being FA Cup 1st round weekend and all), but I'll see if I can do stage 1 tomorrow night. |

STEVE MOORE:"Despite the slightly uphill nature of today's opening stage, it is gentle with only the one 3rd category climb in the middle. If the stage is to get broken up it will do so when the gradient increases towards 5% with 10km to go or so but with the downhill afterwards and teams built around sprinters the quality of Griepel, Cavendish and Goss involved, it is unlikely to happen."
SM:"You come back to us with about 30km done in this opening race of the year. It is a sweltering hot 32 degrees Celsius out there so the biggest shock out there is that the pack forced two or three attacks back before they let a three man break go for the day. Rene Jorgensen, Florian Stalder and Jurgen Roelandts make up the trio.
SM:"The lead trio are about to enter the first sprint point and Florian Stalder has gone for an early attack at it. Roelandts is trying to get him up the inside and I think he gets him on the line, we'll have to check the graphic and yes, he gets the 6 points."
SEAN KELLY:"The pace is starting to be wound on here as the breakaway have a five minute lead. We expected this to be the case, as the breakaway go through the mountain point uncontested with Florian Stalder getting the 16 points, but the thing we did not expect is that the team doing the chasing is the Canadian's who are doing all the pulling on the front. You can see the 'big three' sprint teams, Australia, Britain and Germany enjoying the rest behind."
SM: "We once again have to apologize for the poorly timed commercial break we had earlier that meant we missed the 2nd sprint point, that Roelandts once again won. As we now will stay with the action for what is just over 10km to go. We can see the expected catch being made now, with the hosts and Team GB at the point of the peloton."
SK: "We can see now exactly what we expected to see at this stage with three trains emerging, one each from the big three. with Germany on one side, Britain on the other and Australia down the middle."
SM:"Yes, interesting that, with Griepel being lead out by Degenkolb about as far away as possible from where Cav in his Rainbow jersey is getting lead out by Swift."
SK:"Goss has gone for it"
SM:"Yes Sean, we've only just gone under the flamme rogue and Goss has tried a long one, maybe it is the buzz or pressure of the home crowd that has caused this. Degenkolb has passed him and this is a great lead out for Griepel. Thor Hushovd is on his wheel too though."
SK:"Cavendish can't get past Swift. It's a horrible mistake by Swift who didn't look up to pace anyway."
SM:"That's his chance for a win gone as here goes GRIEPEL who holds off Hushovd for the win. Goss stops Viviani who had taken his wheel while there will be recriminations in the Team GB camp as Cav finishes 5th with Tyler Farrar also having his chances ruined by Swift's poor lead out.
