Local hero Jiao sneaks into Beijing's Top-10 - Oz safe!
Pengdia Jiao - our Chinese puncheur - did what we were hoping for: grab a decent result in Beijing to finally secure Oz Cycling's place in the PCT. Our pre-season goal to reach the Top-5 in GC here was not too important anymore, as more important things were yet to come.
Anyway, after a race, in which Oz Cycling's colours were hardly to be seen, Jiao find himself finishing as 7th in GC, with the same time as 5th Ginanni! So eventually, a close miss of our (fourth) goal.
There's not much more to say about the race - from Oz's point of view. Jiao did just enough to survive the crucial stages in the main group(s) and secured the team a very good result. Also his personal best result after a 7th place in Gisborne GP earlier this season.
Our C2-trip to Utah also got Oz some points towards the rankings, even though we couldn't score the expected two TT-stage-wins. Michael Ford took out the opening timetrial, but finishes "only" 2nd in the second TT. Miles Olman added a few points, while our best GC-placement appeared to be an underwhelming 72nd for young gun Adam Phelan.
Results Tour of Beijing/
1 | Fabian Wegmann | Sram-Riboxx Cycling Team | 19h21'34 | 2 | Tommy Zaini | Meiji - Cannondale | s.t. | 3 | Sérgio Sousa | Sram-Riboxx Cycling Team | + 8 | ... | 7 | Pengda Jiao | Oz Cycling Project | + 20 |
Results Tour of Utah/
1 | Gustav Larsson | Vattenfall Cycling | 17h57'18 | 2 | Thomas Rohregger | Magna-Ryanair | + 37 | 3 | Mikel Nieve | FC Barcelona - Estrella Damm | + 1'50 |
Note/ TT-win for Ford and 2nd in points

Congrat's tsmoha!
Next season, your team might do even better with Bobridge coming back. |

Thanks, guys!
Jiao hangs on for 12th in Japan - Oz achieves one goal
Pengda Jiao has collected (most of) the last few points for Oz Cycling in 2013 and made the team finishing as 18th in the PCT this year. So eventually, our team managed to stay out of the relegation-drama, also thanks to the results in the Asian races we participated at in October.
Jiao ended our season as 12th in Japan Cup, which ain't too bad with a packed startlist ahead.. his strong performances in Beijing, plus Oz's huge success in the Herald Sun Tour would also lead to our team achieving it's last (and only) sponsor goal this year: the Top-5 in the Asian rankings! Asian Rankings 2013/ 1 | | Meiji - Cannondale | PCT | 1343 | 2 | | Evian-MIAT | PCT | 1123 | 3 | | Oz Cycling Project | PCT | 1037 | 4 | | Cisco Cycling Team | PCT | 966 | 5 | | Vespa-Aprilia Racing | PCT | 860 |

You really can be named as "Team of the last month"!
You made quite a jump in the end after being in the relegation zone for most of the time.
Really happy actually to see you staying in PCT as I like your focus a lot and am a bit angry about myself not choosing an Oceanic focus last year as well.
It was a brave move to send one of your best riders to the PT on a loan deal. But as you stayed in PCT and will take advantage from Bobridge for sure, you probably made everything right. I don`t have Bobridge`s exact stats in my mind after progressions but he surely should be able to score big in the PCT. |

Thanks, roturn. Yes, definitely a well needed points haul for Oz in the final races! Something I really was hoping for (already prior to the season), but once being in the deepest relegation battle, I sometimes lost all hopes
Well, you just made it into the PT, so I guess not much reason to be angry about your not-Oceanian focus
And Bobridge.. not quite sure about his stats right now But something like HI 79, TT 77, I guess. Not sure which training I gave him to max out. He won't dominate in his first maxed year, but of course should be a real force.

Seems like Compal-Merida is looking for re-inforcements in the climbing-department and that they're closely monitoring Shaun Lewis and Kin-San Wu prior to the transfer season.
What are tsmoha's reaction to these rumours? |

What are tsmoha's reaction to these rumours?
As for rumours about Oz Cycling's transfer season 2014, it has been rather quiet so far. It's no secret that there was some frustration with Michael Rogers losing more than 20 minutes in the Tour of Czech Repblic and the veteran maybe leaving Oz as a free agent.. his late-season victory in the Herald Sun Tour made some people happy though, but still: much depends on his wage demand and of course how strong he will come back for the new season..
One thing is for sure: the look of the team may see some heavy changes yet again, as some aging professionals like Visconti, Gerrans or Peraud ain't garantueed a spot on the team for another season.
And also riders like Shaun Lewis (stage-winner in the Tour of America) or recently crowned Hong Kong-NC Kin-San Wu won't be "definite stay at Oz" for 2014. Even though both are likely to extract contracts and wait for good offers. Especially Wu is rumoured to be one of Oz's manager's personal favorites. A roster plan for the upcoming season is likely to be revealed at some point next week though.
Kin-San Wu on the move? He celebrated a nice victory in Hong Kong's NC road race a few days ago, which may raise his value..

The Oz Cycling Project revealed it's first roster plan for the upcoming 2014 campaign. As always, it's of course not 100% safe yet, wether this plan will come true or not. It's just an idea of which direction the team will take for the new season.
There's no real surprise, except of maybe the opportunity to sell well talented Kiwi Bennett in a deal. Oz's manager said, that there's a certain target for a deal like that, which is yet kept secret - for obvious reasons.. On the other hand, aging riders like Rogers (where his wage demand will play a big role) or "Gerro" (where his declining skills will play a big role) were expected to be found on the less safe side of the paper.
Explanation of icons in the plan
| Local hero | | Swap deal possible | | Superstar | | Aging member | | Premium member | | 30+ member | | Good teammate | | Manager's favorite |
Definitely staying | | | | Rider | Role/Reason | Jack Bobdrige | | Luke Durbridge | | William Ford | | Michael Ford | | Miles Olman | | Sonomtseren Delgerbayar | | Damion Drapac | | Adam Phelan | | Tom Scully | | King Lok Cheung | | | | Staying - but listening to offers | | | | George Bennett | | Giovanni Visconti | | Matthew Lloyd | | Pengda Jiao | | Shaun Lewis | | Wen Hao Li | | Kin-San Wu | | | | Not yet decided - depends | | | | Michael Rogers | | Simon Gerrans | | Alex Rasmussen | | Félix Emilio Besada | | Jean-Christophe Peraud | | Libin Chen | | Ethan Kimmince | | | | Most probably leaving | | | | Adrian Laidler | | Glenn O'Shea | | Baden Cooke | | Roman Kilun | |

Awesome stuff with the icons
Too bad our teams don't have too much in common, which means we will rarely meet in the transfer season.

The -ridge duo will be a nice core for you in the future.
(I'll hate to ride against Bobridge next year )
I'm surprised to see Bennett possibly leaving, I guess it has to be for someone big like Goss...

Bennett for a certain young Aussie sprinter by any chance?
With Durbridge and Bobridge you should do really well. Plus with most top TTers in the PCT declining or promoting they will have loads of opportunity |
