Wiesenhof-Andritz - Jersey reveal!
Heine

I like the choice for the new sponsor. With riders like Brändle or Preidler you have a nice Austrian core and Austria and Germany fit of course well anyway.

Never heard of the company but the logo goes very well with the one of VW. The jersey is simple but looks good.

Never heard about the company myself, I told the jersey-maker I wanted an Austrian company, and other than that he could do whatever he wanted ;-)

Cio: If he's sold it will be for the deal I like the most ;-)

Reblaus made a good choice then Grin

Interesting change of sponsors, i think Austria make perfect sense region wise and there are some talented austrians around, so goo move from VW to join forces with that company.

Both your ageing italian looks interesting to Metinvest management, it looks like both can have few more solid years in PCT and CT in them. And Klemme, hmm nice rider, but he cant accelerate Grin

Brändle takes the double, Haugard wins in Norway

All national championships have been run and VolksWagen-Mapei has ended up with 3 jerseys. Brändle showed in Austria that he was the strongest rider, not only winning the anticipated TT-race, but also taking the double by winning the roadrace. He then follows teammate Daniel Schorn who won the roadrace last year. Making the jersey stay with the VolksWagen team. This should greatly please the new Austrian co-sponsor Andritz.

The talented Norwegian TTer Phan Age Haugard continued his great results in TT-races. First he won the U23-TT and then he won the Norwegian National TT-race. We are looking forward to seeing him be even stronger next year while racing in his custom jersey.

Pre-renewals

Renewals and goals will come soon, but we are already far into planning for the season. This has lead to the following news for riders:

Leaving the team
Matthias Krizek
Mike Teunissen
Jérôme Pineau

Krizek and Teunissen has been great riders for the team, unfortunately they've only been here on loans and will now go back to their old teams. Even more unfortunately is it that both their teams will disband. So they will become free agents. this might be good new however as they are nice riders and we might want to sign them back. Pineau was signed at the end of the transfer season and is getting old, he will not have the legs for another season in the PT. We hope that one of the new CT teams will give him a shot. He should be quite a good hilly domestique in the CT

Getting renewed and staying

Alexandar Flügel
Rick Zabel
Ruben Zepuntke
Georg Preidler
Daniel Schorn
Matthias Brändle
Christoph Taubel

These are the riders that are and will be the backbone of our team. Flügel will continue to fly in the hills, maybe he will even fly a bit better next year. Zabel will follow in his fathers footsteps and is finally ready to sprint with the best. He was disappointing in the U23-WC and Tour de Avenir. Next season is the time to strike back! Zepuntke is the next Burghardt, and it will be time for him to really shine and show he can be a leader in the cobbles. He got a great mixture of support-stats and can both ride hills and sprint from a small group. Preidler will be a super-domestique / free rider. He won the Vuelta KoM last year and we expect him to be even better this year. He will be doing work in both hilly classics and stage races this year. Daniel Schorn is Zabels "donkey", he will follow Zabel around and be his main leadout. We hope that they can form a great relationship, and become better each season. Taubel will be the same for Zepuntke, the last guy to give Zepuntke just they push he need before the finale. The last rider here is Matthias Brändle, in my eyes a kind of super rider. He is a strong time trialist and would be interesting for many teams just because of that. When you then consider he is a strong climber aswell you see we got a real diamond here. Brändle will ride as many stage races as possible, where he will be a combination of a domestique that rides for our leader and a co-leader where he goes all out in the time trials to secure extra points from GC positions. He is also the double Austrian champion! In general these are riders that will most likely never leave the team.

Getting renewed, and most likely staying

Marcel Sieberg
Kevin Predatsch
Yonathan Monsalve
Gregory Brenes
Winner Anacona
Phan Age Haugard
Shane Archbold
Ivan Kovalev

Yonathan Monsalve did a great job last year, and have developed. He will most likely stay, but is the kind of rider that might leave if we get a good offer. The same can be said about Brenes and Anacona. They are on a great wage and would be leaders in PCT. We can not see that we would be able to replace them with the same quality and they will therefor most likely stay with the team. However, as they are not German we will not close the possibility. Sieberg is one of our oldest riders (oldest when Pineau leaves). He has for years been one of the best leadouts of the game and is still at a high level, he is also a nice cobble-domestique and just for this he will be renewed and most likely kept. Archbold, Kovalev, Haugard and Predatsch are important parts of our TT-team and we would love to keep them. However, if the offers are good enough they might leave. In general, this group is rider we have no problem keeping, but we can't say for sure they are VolksWagen riders after the transfer season.

Getting renewed, open for sale

Domenik Klemme
Emanuele Sella
Filippo Pozzato
Nacer Bouhanni

Sella and Pozzato was 2 of our most important riders last season. Pozzato winning in Lisboa most likely saved us from relegation. However, with Mapei leaving we want to open up space for new riders and the 2 Italians are natural riders for us to sell. That said, they will not be sold just for the sake of selling, we will be looking to find a deal that will be good both for us and the other team. Both could still do a good job in the PT, or be great leaders in the PCT. Sella being the great climber he is, and Pozzato with his sick combination of stats that make him a potential winner on all terrains bar mountains and time trials. Bouhanni is our second best rider and a PT stage winner last season. He has developed further and become a great sprinter on an even better wage (bar sick demands during renewals). However being French might be his doom here as the team want to focus on Zabel. For that reason he is available and will be sold if we get a good offer. Domenik Klemme is the odd man out, we invested a lot of money in him last year and didn't really get what we wanted. We could be willing to give him another chance this year, but think it might be good for him to try a new team where he wont be behind Flügel in the pecking order. However, he is on a low wage and would be quite pricey. Most likely we will be looking at a rider swap + money for him.

That is the current status of our riders, we a re looking forward to the transfer season and next season. We will be keeping this thread while everyone else seem to be making new ones, don't know why I just like it Smile

Some interesting CT-level riders being released, might be taking a good look at them...
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Goals 2015

After missing on all goals last year we are taking a more carefull approach this year, with the following goals:

Team standings top 10

We hope to better or position from last year and get a safe distance from relegation, we believe this should be possible by strengthening the team together with talent development

Giro D'Italia or Vuelta a Espana top 10

GT goal of the year, we want a rider to get atleast top 10. This will either be Monsalve or a new rider signed

Win Deutchland Tour

"Home" race and main goal for Flügel, we hope that he can find some extra power and win in Germany

Top 10 Paris-Roubaix

The era of Zepuntke has started and we believe that Roubaix is a great race for him, we demand and expect atleast top 10 from our young star

Top 10 Strade Appia Antica

Another top 10 goal and a race we believe should fit the team well

New contracts revealed

The contract renewals this year was the most intense one the VolksWagen-management has ever experienced. 2 riders became insulted in the process. 5 riders held out til the last round and it went to the wire, but we got their signature in the end. All in all everyone we wanted signed a new contract, and the wages are as follows:

Alexandar Flügel€330.000
Rick Zabel€181.000
Kevin Predatsch€50.000
Ruben Zepuntke€150.000
Marcel Sieberg€50.000
Domenik Klemme€200.000
Georg Preidler€150.000
Daniel Schorn €50.000
Matthias Brändle€150.000
Christoph Taubel€50.000
Emanuele Sella€450.000
Filippo Pozzatto€400.000
Nacer Bouhanni€104.000
Yonathan Monsalve€650.000
Gregory Brenes€140.000
Winner Anacona€140.000
Phan Age Haugard€50.000
Shane Archbold€50.000
Ivan Kovalev€50.000

In general we are happy with the results. We might've wanted to get everyone lower, but we can live well with the result. As stated many times, Flügel, Zabel, Zepuntke, Preidler and Brändle will never leave the team. Most others we would also like to keep, but we could listen to offers.

One of the biggest joys of the renewals are that our Time-trialers (Kovalev, Archbold, Haugard and Predatsch) signed at 50k, this give us a good hope of getting a much better TTT-squad this year.

SotD
I see that Rick Zabel and Nacer Bouhanni got mad Smile - But despite that the wages aren't so bad. Indeed the TT'ers are cheap, which seems to be a pretty common thing. Mine are also very cheap.

It was to be expected that you'll have significantly more >100k riders than before, but ouch, Rick please! Grin

I see you're only slightly below cap space with one spot left to fill, so I guess we shouldn't expect a big move besides Sella out, someone with similar wage in?
We'll certainly be in talks to be sure to prevent fights either way.

Heine
Yeah, Rick decided to be an ass :-p I though his avg/ovrl would allow me to get him lower, but it wasn't meant to be... Just gotta hope he delivers some good results. I feel however that I managed to get a rider like Zepuntke on a low wage. You win some you loose some

We could be interested both in money offers and rider swaps so we are looking forward to talking to everyone during the transfer season. We will also be looking at loaning in some riders and give them experience. Preferably climbing domestiques, time trialers or cobblers.

Shhh, try 75% on that table Wink

Klemme probably in PCT then :/ I quite liked the pre-transfers DB in that regard...

I'll see if I can afford to look at Bouhanni, but I can't promise anything yet.

I'd have a French climbing domestique and a Dutch time trialer who need loans, but I'm unsure whether they fit your stats demands, and I definitely wouldn't be mad at you if they didn't.

valverde321
If you had to give a percentage on how likely Pozzato was to leave the team in the transfer window, what would it be?

Heine
50/50, depends on different factors

Heine
Riders leaving, and riders coming

The transfer season is well underway and there has been big changes for the team, first the riders leaving:

Emanuele Sella to Siam Cement - Lenovo
Domenik Klemme to Grupo Nutresa
Phan Age Haugard to Swedbank - PEAB
Winner Anacona to DeLaval - Kiitokori
Nacer Bouhani to Euskatel - Air France
Gregory Brenes to Quickstep

We wish everyone good luck in their new teams and thank them for everything they have done for us. More important though, the new faces:

Stefan Denifl
www.probikekit.co.uk/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Stefan-Denifl.jpg
Wage: 800.000

Stefan rode for the abandoned PT-winner Wikipedia last year, he will now be our main leader in the mountains and we expect him to improve on his results last year. He's also the one rider Andritz told us to sign this year. He comes in with winning experience and we expect him to lead the team both on the road and off it. He will be riding atleast one GT for us this year. Last season he was the 41st best scorer in PT

Dimitri Claeys
www.dewielersite.net/db2/wielersite/beeldbank2/1237455300Claeys%20%20Dimitri.jpg
Wage: 500.000

Dimitri dissapointed last season, but we hope he can turn it around now. We still remember him tearing it up on the legendary Bianchi squad. We hope that he can find his old legs back and show that he can ride with the best also in the PT. He will this season cooperate with Flügel as our 1-2 punch on the hills. Last season he was the 81st best scorer in PT while riding for the abandoned Lotto - Australia Post squad

Mike Aaron Egger
www.dewielersite.net/db2/wielersite/beeldbank2015/14229183332473aeggermike.jpg
Wage: 50.000 Fee: 100.000

Mike is an up and coming German climber and fits well with our goal of signing some more Germans. He will work as a pure domestique and help Denifl and Monsalve when the road starts to rise. We expect Mike to continue his development and become an important helper for years to come

Daniel Paulus
www.dewielersite.net/db2/wielersite/beeldbank2015/14261162862473aDanielPaulus2015.jpg
Wage: 65.000

Daniel is one of those riders we have been looking to sign for years, and with Magna - Ryanair abandoning we got the chance. Paulus is a talented rider on hilly courses and while he will find himself in the role of a helper we expect him to become better and better and become an important member of the team for years. He also fits well with our new sponsor and increased Austrian focus.

Lukas Postlberger
radstars.at/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/lukas-poestlberger.jpg
Wage: 50.000

Another Austrian, this time one with a great talent against the clock. He will be an important part of our TTT-team already this year and develop into a great rider. We expect him to learn from our more experienced guys this year and start to really bloom next season

Loanies

We will also be loaning in 3 guys this year, Ruben Fernandez will be jioning from Euskatel - Air France as a climber/puncheur domestique, Rasmus Sterebo joins from Risa - Ergon as a Time-Trial domeqstique and Havard Blikra joins from Swedebank - PEAB as a climber/puncheur domestique. We are looking forward to help develop them and see them ride in our jersey next year

Are we finished? Not really, we are still looking to bring in some riders in support roles, so watch this space!

viking90
Great signings, thought about going after Cleays myself Pfft
Good luck for the season, hope Blikra can do some good work!

Pleasure making business with you!

VolksWagen-Andritz Team Presentation

Welcome to the presentation of the team for 2015. Last year was our first in the MG-UCI Pro Tour and we managed to retain our spot. This year we hope to build upon that and become a stable top 10 team in the division. To get this done we have invested heavily in strengthening the squad, both by signing new strong riders and by sending certain riders to training camps. We have also been able to strengthen our Germanic core and we are glad to say that 13 of 21 main riders are from Germany or Austria while 1 of our 2 stagiares are the same. We are also glad to keep the focus on young riders, all our riders are below 30 and our average age is 25,5. Anyway, to the main part of the presentation.

Leaders

Our leading core for the season, a group of riders that we expect should score the main part of our points. 2 new riders and 4 returning, 3 Germans, 1 Austrian, 1 Venezuelan and 1 Belgian.

Stefan Denifl
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Denifl.png
Our most important new signing is a rider we have been trying to sign for years. He raced for last years Pro Tour winner Wikipedia and will give us valuable experience. On his own he is one of the best climbers in the world and when he’s also Austrian it was a no-brainer to sign him. He has already started training for next year and has posted the fastest time ever registered on the team, beating records set by Sella last year. We really expect Stefan to light it up this year!

Dmitri Claeys
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Claeys.png
Dmitri joins from the Lotto Australia team and is the second of our 2 big signings this year. A former PCT-legend and a great hilly rider. He disappointed last year and we hope that he will be able to turn it around and get us some strong results together with returning puncheur Flügel. If Dmitri can find back his former shape this could be a really interesting signing for the team

Alexandar Flügel
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Flugel.png
Alexandar is one of the riders people that everyone identifies VolksWagen with, he’s been with the team since VolksWagen took over from Telenor and SAS and he will continue to ride with the team. Last year he was a part of a trio together with Klemme and Pozzato, this year he will be part of a duo together with newcomer Claeys. He’s another of our riders that have been training well this winter and showing better results on the hills. We hope for him to continue getting good results for the team, stretch his teams and fly.

Ruben Zepuntke
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Zepuntke.png
Ruben has been a talent for several years now, showing strong results with (among others) a podium in the U23 WC. This season it is time for him to take the reins of our cobble squad and show that he can be among the best cobblers. He’s been groomed to take over for Burghardt as the German hope. His strengths are naturally on the cobblestones but he’s also a quick finishers and a capable puncheur. Still only 22 years old we can expect that with good trainers he will become even better. Watch out for Ruben this year!

Rick Zabel
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Zabel.png
Rick got a name that puts a lot of pressure on his shoulder, and living up to his father will be extremely hard. Still, Rick is going to give it a try. The team got a lot of faith in the young sprinter and decided to sell Nacer Bouhanni, who won a stage last year. The team really believes that Rick will be the next big sprinter and are ready to invest a lot into making him the best in the coming years. This season? Expect to see Rick fighting for stage wins, and ride atleast 1 Grand Tour.

Yonathan Monsalve
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Monsalve.png
Yonathan is the only non-europian rider on the team and will this season also be the only South American on the team after the departure of Anacona and Brenes. He was our big free agent splash last year and has developed just as expected and are ready to get even better results this season. He will lead the them is every mountain race where Denifl wont race.

Luxury dometiques
These riders are the riders expected to make the last effort for our leaders, but they might also lead the team themselves at time. A strong group with a mixture of new and old riders.

Georg Preidler
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Preidler.png
We signed Preidler as a young man several seasons ago and last year he really showed his strenght by becoming King of the Mountains in the Vuelta. Georg will this year be one of our most important helpers, both in the hilly races and in the mountains, and we also hope we can give him the chanse to go for another mountain jersey in one of the grand tours. In general Preidler will be the last card we play out before our leaders take over.

Matthias Brändle
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Brandle.png
Matthias is another Austrian and another strong rider. He’s the best time trialist on the team, aswell as a strong climber. He will be important to ensure that our leaders wont loose too much time in TTT’s while also riding to score points himself. Matthias is another one of those riders that can surprise everyone this year, and we also expect to invest into his future starting from next season, training him into an even better riders

Christoph Taubel
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Taubel.png
Christoph has been groomed into Ruben’s super domestique and he will start to show his worth this year, helping Zepuntke stay with the best during the classics seasons. He will also lead the team in several HC-races this year and we hope that he can turn a few heads here. Christoph has been developing well since he signed and we expect him to continue this development becoming a strong classics man.

Jaco Venter
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Venter.png
Jaco signed for the team in a deal sending Pippo Pozzato the other way in a one-for-one deal, and that shows we believe in the South African. He started professional cycling late and while he is among the older riders on the team (28) we wont be surprised if he develop further. He will already this year be one of the most important helpers for Claeys and Flügel and might also get a chance to ride for himself in HC-races and maybe even serve as a breakaway rider in one of the Grand Tours.

Christoph Mai
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Mai.png
Christoph has been a rider the team has hunted for years, and we are happy to have been able to sign him. He raced together with Denifl for Wikipedia last season and it was a demand from Denifl that the team try everything to sign Christoph aswell. He will follow Denifl and Monsalve around this season and be with them up the mountain sides. Mai will also be our leader in HC stage races and it will be interesting to see what he can do racing for himself.

Domestiques
The domestiques this season si a good mix of talents and some more experienced riders. We also find a lot of riders in this category that is still developing and will become better riders in the future, maybe taking on even more important positions in the team.

Ivan Kovalev
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Kovalev.png
Ivan is our second strongest Time-trialist behind Brändle and will be an important part of our TTT-train this year. We also hope that he will be able to get some top 10’s in ITT’s

Daniel Schorn
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Schorn.png
Daniel takes over the job as our main leadout rider after the sale of Sieberg. He is still developing but we feel that he will be an important riders for Zabel this season

Daniel Paulus
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Paulus.png
Daniel is an exciting Austrian talent and one of our main targets during the transfer season. We expect him to develop into a good hilly rider and a rider that will be an important part of our classics setup. This season he will ride to help Claeys and Flügel while most importantly develop as a rider himself

Shane Archbold
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Archbold.png
Shane is a rider we really have big hopes for. He’s still developing, but he’s already a strong time trialist and leadout rider. Together with Schorn he will be part of our train for years. He’s also the only Oceanic presence of the team, making it so that we only lack a Asian rider

Kevin Predatsch
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Predatsch.png
Kevin has been with the team for years and he has started to develop into a good Time Trialist, together with riders like Kovalev and Archbold you shuold expect to see him race every TTT.

Lukas Postlberger
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Postlberger.png
Lukas is an Austrian TT-talent signed for the future. We don’t really expect him to do a lot this year, but he should race as a part of a TTT-train and to develop. We expect him to be a good TTer in the future

Mike Aaron Egger
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Egger.png
Mike has been signed for the future, he still got a lot of development to do and will in the future become an important mountain helper for the team. This season we will try to give him the best opportunities to unlock his talents

Loanies
This season we are loaning in 3 riders to help them develop. We hope to give them the experience to become important riders for their teams for years to come. Maybe some of them will even join us on more permanent deals in the future

Ruben Fernandez
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Fernandez.png
Ruben joins the team on loan from Euskatel-Air France, one of the best climbing teams in the PCT. While developing Ruben we hope to use his climbing skills to help our leaders

Rasmus Sterobo
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Sterebo.png
Rasmus joins on loan from Risa-Ergon and is already a strong time-trialist. He’s going to be an important piece in our TTT-train this year before going back to Norway stronger than ever

Havard Blikra
glamdring.se/users/cc5220b539f2d65670a14b91f64949de/Presentation/Blikra.png
Joining on loan from Swedbank-Peab and allows the team to continue the tradition of atleast one Norwegian rider on the team after the sale of Haugard. A rider comparable to Fernandez and will get the same role

Stagiares

At the end of transfers the team signed 2 stagiares. They are so new to the team that we haven’t been able to acquire cards for them. Still we are happy that Alex Standfest and Nevio Tirolini will join the team. They are mainly here to develop as riders.

This gives us the current team:

Great stuff with those rider cards. Nice squad as well. If Claeys steps up a level or two and Denifl lives up to his potential, you may well enjoy a less thrilling (relegation fight affected) season this year Wink

Monsalve, Zabel and Zepuntke add some potentially nice scoring.

That's quite a team!

Congratulations on adding a couple of leaders to a developing squad. With a trained Denifl in addition to Monsalve, Claeys and Flügel you're looking extremely strong for both the mountains and the hills. Obviously a bit more of a question mark coming to cobbles and sprints, but Zepunkte looks good to score top 10s and top 5s on the cobbles. Zabel should also be able to mix it in the top 5/top 10 in the sprints, but he's obviously depending on picking the right train, just like Kristoff is for me.

Overall a very strong looking team. The depth for the mountains is also good, and with such leaders, you should at least complete your goal and do a top 10. Though, if the upgraded Denifl does well and Claeys performs according to his hill stat, I expect you to be a top 5 team.
