GP Costa Azul
4th and Final Stage!
Can we hold on? Our team are very strong going uphill so with 3 cat 1's in the stage today we're looking to soften up some of Gorka's GC rivals if we can.
We come straight to the final categorised climb, where we have Aiert Fresnedoso setting a fierce pace on the front, putting many under pressure.
On the flat run-in it's the Ox's turn, he keeps on the pressure and many are shelled out the back, sadly none of the main rivals are dropped. It's going to be close today!
Here's Gorka 10km out, he's stuck to Radochla's back wheel like a limpet, he tells us he feels in super shape today, he looks so calm! I can tell you we're far from calm in the car!
Terrible news as with 3km out Gorka gets blocked off by another rider and loses Radochla's wheel, he finds himself about 20 back, while Radochla is right at the front and being led out. Things are looking good for the NSP sprinter.
Gorka is not willing to give in easily though, so he launches his sprint from about 2km out, very early we know, but he has to if he's to keep his jersey, he flies through the field and manages to take 3rd, but Radochla took 2nd behind Hugo Sabido, question is, who takes the GC?!
Stage
1) Hugo Sabido - LA Antarte - 3h58'56
2) Stefan Radochla - NSP - s.t.
3) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - s.t.
4) Johan Coenen - Differdange - s.t.
5) Edgar Pinto - LA Antarte - s.t.
6) Nikias Arndt - LKT - s.t.
7) Tino Thomel - NSP - s.t.
8) Jani Tewelde - MTN - s.t.
9) Reinardt J.V. Rensburg - MTN - s.t.
10) Seb Lander - Glud & Marstrand - s.t.
GC
Gorka holds on, but by only 2 seconds from Radochla, the team are absolutely delighted, our first GC win!
KoM
Michael Baer - Atlas - 42pts
Points
Stefan Radochla - NSP - 70pts
Young Riders
Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - 15h40'32
After a shocker in Normandie this weeks performance in Portugal has more than made up for it, hopefully the first GC win of many! |

A Great Overall victory for Gorka
Although the two second gap was a bit to close for comfort |

GP del Navarra
A hilly one day race, with a downhill run in to a steep finish. Today the weather is wet and very windy, so there's potential for crashes and echelons. Ion and Gaizka are our main hopes for today but they've got their work cut out against guys like Wegmann, Chris Anker Sorensen and Rujano, but a top 10 is the aim!
With about 100 km to go, about 2 riders hit the deck, and one of them is Rujano! There's panic amongst the Androni ranks as they send their team back to bring him to the front, how much is that fall going to affect him later on in the race?!
With about 15 km to go we come to the first meaningful attack of the day, Atapuma (Columbia), Txurruka (Euskaltel) and Rujano!, but they're brought back just 2 km later along with the morning's breakaway group.
The next attack comes 10 km from the end, this one with more conviction as Hivert (Saur) launches it, Rujano, David Lopez and Sorensen all follow immediately while the rest of the group struggle to react, including Ion and Gaizka who don't seem to have the legs, as it is they find themselves part of a 15 man elite group in between the leaders and the peleton who have sat up completely!
We send Aiert to the front to try get back the leaders but it's no use, they're holding back, Hivert has attacked his companions and is looking good for the solo win, as we prepare ourselves to sprint for the minor placings.
Jonathan Hivert does hold on for a well deserved solo win!
Izagirre takes the group sprint for 5th place behind the leaders.
1) Jonathan Hivert - Saur - 5h09'04
2) Jose Rujano - Androni - +31
3) Chris Anker Sorensen - Saxobank - s.t.
4) David Lopez - Movistar - s.t.
5) Ion Izagirre - Xacobeo - +1'13
6) Guillaume Levarlet - Saur - s.t.
7) Julien Antomarchi - TT1 - s.t.
8) Jean-Marc Marino - Saur - s.t.
9) Benat Intxausti - Movistar - s.t.
10) Alexander Efimkin - TT1 - s.t. |

March was a great month for us, we won our first stage race, with Gorka winning the GP Costa Azul, our main men are coming into top form now, so we're confident heading into April we can get some more good results!
But here are the results from the World Tour races this month.

Tirreno-Adriatico - Stefano Garzelli
Milan-San Remo - Mark Cavendish
Volta Ciclista a Catalunya - Alejandro Valverde
Gent-Wevelgem - Tom Boonen
Coming up, our schedule for April, and hopefully some racing! |

I think Sorensen got into a successful break, and just held on, he only beat Luis Leon Sanchez by about 6 seconds, I guess Garzelli did a similar thing. |

Tour of Sochi
Stages 1 & 2
Stage 1
A flat stage, Diego is getting better every day, and Gorka are going to try for a top 10 in the sprint today, with such good sprinters here anything better will be hard.
With the downhill finish Gaizka decides to try a cheeky solo escape 5km out, but he's caught by the sprinters with 2 km left.
And a great, late sprint from Richeze sees him take the win.
Stage
1) Maximillian Richeze - Nippo - 4h29'06
2) Stefan Radochla - NSP - s.t.
3) Remco te Brake - De Rijke - s.t.
4) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - s.t.
5) Alexei Markov - RusVelo - s.t.
6) Gorka Izagirre - Xacobeo - s.t.

10) Tomas Buhacek - Whirlpool - s.t.
GC is the same as the stage result.
Stage 2
Another flat day, same plan as yesterday.
Today's stage is pretty uneventful, Gaizka takes 3rd in an intermediate sprint so picks up some handy bonus seconds. Radochla takes the sprint.
Stage
1) Stefan Radochla - NSP - 2h49'04
2) Alexei Markov - RusVelo - s.t.
3) Sylwester Janiszewski - CCC - s.t.

Tour of Sochi
Stage 3
A hilly day today, Gaizka and Aiert are both considered favourites for todays stage so we're looking for a good result!
We come straight to the final 10 km where everything's kicking off! Gaizka looks to take advantage of the downhill section just before the final kick uphill, if he's brought back, no matter, Fresnedoso can do the same thing!
Gaizka is brought back, but by a 4 man group, no-one else could follow the pace, so they become 5, and Aiert's in it too! They have a 20 second gap, so should fight out the victory. Rutkiewicz goes early but he gets a good gap, can we catch up?
Rutkiewicz holds on, we take 2nd and 3rd place, a good result, but we know it should've probably been more with 2 men in the 5 man group, the peleton manage to get back too which is disappointing.
Stage
1) Marek Rutkiewicz - CCC - 4h50'49
2) Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa - Xacobeo - s.t.
3) Aiert Fresnedoso - Xacobeo - s.t.
4) Jaco Venter - MTN - s.t.
5) Markus Fothen - NSP - s.t.
6) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - s.t.
7) Stefan Radochla - NSP - s.t.
8) Stefan Schafer - NSP - s.t.
9) Marko Kump - Adria Mobil - s.t.
10) Tomas Buhacek - Whirlpool - s.t.
Somehow Stefan Radochla hangs in (62 hill) and keeps the yellow jersey, all the other main sprinters hung in too.
GC
1) Stefan Radochla - NSP - 12h18'23
2) Maximillian Richeze - Nippo - +16
3) Alexei Markov - RusVelo - s.t.
4) Marek Rutkiewicz - CCC - s.t.
5) Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa - Xacobeo - +28
Tomorrow comes the final hilly stage, 245 km long! Will be really hard, top 10 is the objective, we have no idea how Gaizka and Aiert will cope with such a long stage, they're never raced this far before! |

Tour of Sochi
Stage 4
Today we have the Queen stage, a 245 km hilly day, that'll test everyone, not helped by the fact that the weather is awful and it is very windy, today is a day for the strongmen, Gaizka and Aiert are again our men for today but having never raced a distance like this before we don't know how they'll react.
We spend a lot of our day pulling on the front and with a dangerous break up the rode we finally get some help with 60km left.
Even the favourites are trying attacks from really far out, Jaco Venter goes and is joined by Robert Vrecer, even though there's still 40 km more! They aren't given any rope though.
Aiert is struggling with the distance today he tells us and is suffering big time, so he tells us to focus on Gaizka today and Aiert will help him as much as he can.
Now the real big boys go, and Gaizka is keen to follow, Fothen and Marque are too dangerous for him to let slip! but MTN bring it back for the ever strong Van Rensburg!
And Marque manages to slip away from the other favourites with 5 km to go, he'll be hard to bring back! Gaizka is really starting to suffer himself now.
Marque takes a cracking stage win! Gaizka crosses the finsih line in 7th place, over a minute down, he lacked the legs at the end, but we don't mind, he's still very young and did really well regardless!
Stage
1) Alejandro Marque - Carmim - 6h42'04
2) Marek Rutkiewicz - CCC - +8
3) Artem Ovechkin - RusVelo - +34
4) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - s.t.
5) Markus Fothen - NSP - +52
6) Jaco Venter - MTN - +1'06
7) Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa - Xacobeo - s.t.
8) Jure Golcer - Tirol - +1'19
9) Maximilian Richeze - Nippo - +s.t.
10) Tomas Buhacek - Whirlpool - s.t.
Buhacek takes his 4th 10th place in as many days, what do you reckon are the chances of him taking 10th in the final stage?!
GC
1) Marek Rutkiewicz - CCC - 19h00'39
2) Alejandro Marque - Carmim - +4
3) Artem Ovechkin - RusVelo - +50
4) Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg - MTN - +58
5) Gaizka GerekoechevarrÃa - Xacobeo - +1'12 |

GP Primavera
Hilly one day race, Ion wants this one, but with Dan Martin, Nairo Quintana and Chris Anker Sorensen here among others he has his work cut out.
With the break up the road the counter-attacks start early with Astarloza (Euskaltel) and Rosendo (Andalucia) attacking 60 km out!
De la Fuente decides to get in on the act too and goes even though there's still 30 km, Quintana follows! the attack though is deemed too dangerous and isn't allowed away.
With just 5 km to go now, Ion finds himself on the wheel of Dan Martin and is ready for the sprint, but Quintana has other ideas and slips off the front, and has the gap, it's going to be tight!
But, Ion keeps calm, doesn't panic and continues to follow Martin's wheel, now the sprint is on, Ion's well positioned but can they catch Quintana?
YES!! A perfectly timed sprint from Ion sees him come round Martin, and pass Quintana to win by a good few bike lengths! His first win of the season and he's ecstatic, he really wanted to win this one!
1) Ion Izagirre - Xacobeo - 4h09'29
2) Nairo Quintana - Movistar - s.t.
3) Dan Martin - Garmin - s.t.
4) Juan Manuel Garate - Rabobank - s.t.
5) David Tanner - Saxobank - s.t.
6) Jurgen Roelandts - Lotto - s.t.
7) Tom Jelte Slagter - Rabobank - s.t.
8) Brice Feillu - Saur - s.t.
9) Christian Vandevelde - Garmin - s.t.
10) David Lopez - Movistar - s.t. |
