Dominik looks good to win a Young Riders jersey in this year's Giro... without knowing the competition though. A great development from him. |

1 | Marco Marcato | UniCredit | 2 | Andreas Klöden | Team T-Mobile | 3 | Fabian Cancellara | Leopard - Trek | 4 | Christophe Kern | Argos - Shimano | 5 | Sébastien Rosseler | QuickStep Cycling Team |
After his second place at the GP la Marseillaise, Marcato continues to win the first stage race of his career, taking one stage on his way.
1 | David Moncoutié | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | 2 | Philippe Gilbert | Lotto - Belisol | 3 | Cyril Gautier | Cofidis, le crédit en ligne | 4 | Matthew Lloyd | Team Garmin - Barracuda | 5 | Marco Marcato | UniCredit |
Marcato kept up his good shape, but this time, he wasn't strong enough to compete for the win. A strong fifth place nevertheless, plus he again won a stage and Elia Viviani convinced with two podiums in mass sprints.
1 | Jackson Rodriguez | Ferrari Cycling Team | 2 | Maxime Monfort | Leopard - Trek | 3 | Andy Schleck | Leopard - Trek | 4 | Francesco Masciarelli | Lampre - ISD | 5 | Gabriele Bosisio | Katusha Team | ... | 16 | Thomas Peterson | UniCredit |
Peterson had neither the skills nor the shape to climb with the best. Viviani again with decent sprint results: A third, a fifth and three Top 10s against some of the best sprinters of the world.
1 | Anthony Roux | Team Europcar | 2 | Richie Porte | Orica - GreenEdge | 3 | Vasil Kiryienka | Movistar Team | 4 | Gustavo César Veloso | Vodafone - Santander | 5 | Giovanni Visconti | Movistar Team | ... | 13 | Vincenzo Nibali | UniCredit | 14 | Heinrich Haussler | UniCredit |
The final time trial took us our chances for a better overall placement. Otherwise, Heinrich Haussler, who won a stage and came in third on another, would have fought for the win.
Peter Sagan's first stage win in the rainbow jersey.
1 | Joaquim RodrÃguez | Katusha Team | 2 | Peter Sagan | UniCredit | 3 | Roman Kreuziger | UniCredit | 4 | Jens Voigt | Vodafone - Santander | 5 | Luis Léon Sanchez | Rabobank Cycling Team |
Four small seconds seperate our world champion from the overall win in his first race. He won a stage, though, and came in second twice and third once on the other stages. A strong season debut.
1 | Fabio Felline | Ferrari Cycling Team | 2 | Dominique Rollin | FDJ | 3 | Tom Boonen | QuickStep Cycling Team | 4 | Nick Nuyens | Lotto - Belisol | 5 | Fabian Cancellara | Leopard - Trek | ... | 7 | Heinrich Haussler | UniCredit |
Not the best race for Heinrich Haussler, who wasted too much energy earlier to compete in the final sprint. But oh well...
Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne
1 | Heinrich Haussler | UniCredit | 2 | Tom Boonen | QuickStep Cycling Team | 3 | Matti Breschel | Rabobank Cycling Team | 4 | Bernhard Eisel | Team T-Mobile | 5 | Edvald Boasson Hagen | Sky ProCycling |
One day later, though, everything works perfectly for our Australian. In an exciting sprint, he wins his first classic of 2012.
1 | Heinrich Haussler | UniCredit | 2 | Peter Sagan | UniCredit | 3 | Dominique Rollin | FDJ | 4 | Dominic Klemme | UniCredit | 5 | Niki Terpstra | QuickStep Cycling Team |
In a much weaker field, we completely dominated Le Samyn. Seldom has there been a sprint dominated by one team in this way.
No changes here, Tour Down Under winner Haussler is still in the lead.
Same here.
Heinrich Haussler extends his lead. Marcato jumps into second position, making it a double lead for UniCredit. Bobbie Traksel makes a big jump, thanks to two stage wins and several Top 10s while Mark Cavendish is the highest new entry.
UniCredit is completely unchallenged here, having as much points as the following teams two combined. Katusha starts to manifest a strong position, as expected, while Ferrari continues to convince.
The race for promotion to World Tour has of course already begun. And the two favorites, Orica and Vacansoleil, have already managed to create a small advance to the big French teams.
Haussler is undisputed here as well, with only Cavendish coming close, due to an outstanding performance in the middle east.
And, of course, UniCredit leads the team ranking. Cofidis is surprisingly strong, while the other top spots are occupied by the usual suspects.
Ferrari is in for the long run:
After the convincing season start, the newly formed Ferrari Cycling Team has received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback. The management has drawn the consequences and has now prolongued the contract until 2017!
The luxury car manufacturer will be present in cycling for at least four more years.
Other prominent teams that recently announced a contract renewal are Movistar (until 2016) and T-Mobile (until 2014).
It is only february, yet the rumour mill is already running. Main suspect this month was Andreas Klöden.
The German stage racer, winner of last year's Dauphiné, is running out of contract at the end of the season and he doesn't seem to be averse to end his career abroad: Evidently, he has offers from both Nokia - Sungard and Colnago, and he is said to be considering them.
37 is a solid age for a cyclist, but Andreas Klöden seems to be contemplate another new beginning.
Other prominent riders without a contract for next season are the Schleck brothers and Tom Boonen. We haven't heard anything from them, though, neither regarding renewals nor a possible transfer. |

Some very good results. In especially Haussler comes into form for the Northern Classics.
Looking forward for April, when Dominik starts racing. In my career he just signed for Glud & Marstrand. |

Ladies and Gentlemen,
after three long months of absence - for which I'd like to apologise -, I have an announcement to make:
This blog is not dead!
My motivation, which has been low in the past months, is currently back again, and though I have a couple of personal things to come, I hope that I'll be able to revive this blog with more regular updates.
To ensure that my motivation will keep up, I'll introduce you to some changes in the structure of my reports:
The main thing is that I'll concentrate more on my personal development and races. Continental races that I don't take part in will continue to be presented in the Monthly Review - those will stay mostly the same, I like the way they are right now.
World Tour races will only get one final report, summing up the main events and rankings. Grand Tours might get a report per week.
In general, I hope that those changes will increase the interest with a faster progress and a higher focus on my personal career.
So, see you soon!
Yours,
|

March 4-13
Kreuziger with a good start - Luis León Sanchéz prevails
In the last eight days, the world of cycling witnessed the second big stage race of the season. The main favorites were last year's winner Philippe Gilbert and the runner-up, our own Roman Kreuziger. Experts doubted, though, whether Gilbert would be able to compensate the 45 time trialing kilometers - well, it turns out he couldn't. He ended on an anonymous 17th place.
The fight for the overall ranking was indeed decided in the time trials. Frenchman Anthony Roux (Europcar) showed up in perfect shape, beating Roman Kreuziger by two seconds in the prologue. In the longer time trial on stage five, another rider got the best of both of them: Rabobank's Luis León Sanchéz was the fastest on the course around Saint Flour and wins Paris - Nice 2013.
Paris - Nice seems to be Sanchez' favorite race: He wins it for the second time after 2009.
Haussler continues to shine - Cofidis convinces on home soil
The flat stages two and three both ended in bunch sprints, the first very chaotic one won by Chris Sutton (Orica), and the second by Ben Swift (Vodafone) - who outsprinted Heinrich Haussler closely. But that shouldn't be Haussler's best result: Already on the following day, he won the taylor-made uphill sprint, beating Gerald Ciolek (Vodafone) and Allan Davis (Orica) to the line. The last three hilly stages were then won from breakaways and sprints from larger groups. Cofidis was especially succesful with two wins by Cyril Gautier and Greg Van Avermaet. Unfortunately, neither Haussler nor Kreuziger could manage to achieve another good result, but with a stage win, three stage podiums and a third overall, we leave France with a good feeling.
The transfer to UniCredit evidetly paid off for Heinrich Haussler. He scored already five stage wins in World Tour races.

@ sutty68, fcancellara and neillster: Glad to see that you're happy
How do you like the new style of reports? I tried to keep it as brief as possible while including everything that I think is important. If you approve of that, Tirreno-Adriatico should follow relatively soon.

Totally understand the break you took, and no need to apologize. Do what you want, when you have time and when you feel like it. Im sure you've told me that before. After all its really only a hobby to write stories here.
Im going to be doing something similar to you in my story. Week long stage races get a report, and each week in Grand Tours. Gets the actual career mode moving along a little quicker, which helps my motivation.
And finally, its great to have imo, the best story writer back in action and my favourite one-rider story!
----
Great win for Haussler and good 3rd overall for Kreuziger. At this point in the year, thats a good performance, and is a sign of things to come.
