Menchov with a good GC position heading into the first important stages - shame it's because of others' crashes/bad luck. Hopefully he won't lose too much time in the hilly stages.

Feel sorry for the captains who went down. It has really been the theme of the season. The teams who haven't crashed out will get the results.
Remembers me on the real Tour de France last year with several big guns falling badly.
When was PCM that realistic?

I actually thought Marzano was back in the pack but obviously again lost contact?
He got back into the pack but then was delayed because of the huge crash and ended up int he same group as Ratiy and others who fell.

Fun stage to read about as long as you do not have riders in the race. Frank Schleck seems to have been in the right places for the last 2 stages. While not leading he is in a stong position.
Ricco may be peaking too early for a grand tour. Love him or hate him, that is what was always scarry about Lance Armstrong. By the third week of the race he was stronger than he was at the start.
A lot of exciting racing still to come.

This Giro seems to have the added feature of extra slippery roads. So many crashes!

I didn't expect much from Devolder coming into this race, but despite that it would have been nice if he had had a fair chance to prove himself.
Can only hope for stage wins now. |

Maybe with no more GC leader, Ponzi will now get to have more free reign in stages. I can only hope!

Very, very nervous stage.
Kind of sucks the race favourite is in pink (not for Kami, of course ) - will be very difficult to get him out of it. |

Revenge on everyone for leaving me behind yesterday I guess, although working all day for the sprint and only managing 15th is pretty shocking.

Nice to see Grillo sprinting decently. A bit crap that Lang went down, but as long as Kohl stays upright and upfront then I'm happy.

Good stage for us, while we do lost a bit of time on F.Schleck, Ricco managed to stay in the same group as him, while gaining time on every other favorite in the race.

That's lame for Vespa - did Ginanni fall off/puncture? Bit weird he's sprinting on the flat stages and ignoring anything with a hill.... |

Well done by Bellotti. Not sure why Devolder is so eager to be in front when he's out of the GC race - would have been nice to see him save some energy for perhaps the mountain jersey?
Anyway, good stage. |

After the picture loss in the previous stage, this was a really interesting report so nicely written CountArach.
There will be a lot of focus on these gaps by the big GC men.

Ricco leads and needs to make sure he holds over a 20 second bonus away Frank Schlek on the next one. I fancy that lead could easily evapourate if Ricco has a bad mountain day over Sella.

8 seconds gain on Ricco, and a little more on others, is really not enough. Schleck needs to attack like mad on these stages, and here he did not.
Stage win is vital on the 2nd hilly stage. Its about the best chance Vesuvio have got to take a stage win on this race aswell.

Ardila is looking good so far. And I love how aggressive Vaugrenard is during Grand Tours. Last year it brought him a TdF stage win. Maybe this year he can strike again.

Another stage when you do not see any mention of Frank Schleck until the final kilometers. Once again he is in the right breaks/splits , conserving energy on the way.
The 1st mountain stage may make this only a race for third, as Rocco and Shcleck duel for the win.

You might want to check the stats of riders in the DB before making this a race between only Ricco and Schleck before any of the mountains, when the likes of Sella are very much within touch
