And that's in Estonia, with a (I suppose) small cycling fan base, and with Taaramäe, which has had only a moderate success as of yet. Now imagine what it's like in Spain. I'm sure you understand why I sometimes feel the urge to burn my passport.

Mark has repeatedly stated on ITV4 and in Eurosport interviews that he has lost a lot of weight for this tour in order to make it easier to get over the mountains. They (HTC) looked at the tour stages early and realised that it would be hard to impossible for make to make the cut-off time on some of the stages, and the only way for him to get to Paris was to lose some weight to get over the mountains faster.
This inevitably means that he has had to sacrifice some of his top speed, but with the best lead-out train in the peleton HTC were confident that they could still deliver him to the front at the right time.
To quote a tweet:
@mcewenrobbie Robbie McEwen
Farrar did fastest sprint but Cav & HTC were just far and away the BEST. Think Cav has green wrapped up too. Gilbert has missed 2 many pts
Better late than never - here are the best of the rest of the post race tweets:
@mattgoss1986 Matt Goss
@TheDPate and lars bak are machines, make me feel kinda soft only doing a few hundred meters in the finish!
@LeviLeipheimer Levi Leipheimer
Fast tailwind stage today, we were doing 77kph (48mph) on flat road at one point, completely spun out.
@millarmind David Millar
50k to go
THOR: How you feel?
ME: Fucked. You?
THOR: My eyes hurt from trying to keep them open. Maybe we'll feel ok when we see 25k to go?
We didn't. Time for a rest day. Kudos to Mark and HTC, they make that look way easier than it actually is.
@MarkCavendish Mark Cavendish
Boom! Number4! @TheDPate & Lars Bak rode 190km against a break of 5! Crosswinds, small roads, STRESS. Perfect controlled leadout by the boys
@Mark_Renshaw Mark Renshaw
Another great ride by the boys here. Lars Bak and @TheDPate are so strong. Hats off to the boys! Very fast sprint, was hard to judge it.
Got a little bit excited and jumped early in the sprint, i drag raced @mattgoss1986 for 50m till I finally passed him. My bad...
@MarkCavendish Mark Cavendish
Nearly gave me a heart attack!
@mcewenrobbie Robbie McEwen
To be honest i expected more competition from Garmin, Sky & Lotto in the final km but they weren't organised enough. #ledtoslaughter.
Rest of the tweets (1,000's) are about the massive traffic jam - all the riders want is a massage beer bed now.

Wow, really a lot of credit to Pate and Bak on Twitter. I also think they have done a fantastic job in this Tour, and Bak even was in a breakaway and finished 4, WTF!!! Seems like the never getting tired

Someone asked Lars Bak how much of the tour he had ridden on the front - He said he thinks it's about 1200KM!
