I'm not sure they can survive til the Inter-sprint. There's a part of me that thinks they might be caught.
Depends if HTC want CAV to take max points there to protect his lead a bit until Montpellier...
In other news: Poor David Zabriske is stuck @ Amsterdam airport (flights cancelled due to strong wind). He's feeling a bit sorry for himself, but I suspect that there'll be a few fans along to cheer him up soon. He's already had a lot of offers via twitter..... |

I don't know but they'll probrably attack when the 1st category is getting closer?
Agreed. No chance they are going to cook for 80k's before the first mountain, and in all due respect I find none of those riders ahead capable of withstanding an attack from the likes of Moncoutie even if they have a 5minute gap on the first mountain. So Geraint Thomas might be able to stay with the later attacks, but the rest is likely to be swallowed fairly soon anyways.
Wonders what Sky is trying to do here. Could this be a setup for a fast Uran attack on the Tourmalet climb?

Well, I certainly didn't expect Gadret to be in the breakaway He didn't start yesterday
Chavanel should have been there, though! |

Kadri(attacked two days ago looked quite strong) and Thomas i expected to be there (thomas said yesterday he would be) but the rest really don't stand a chance. |

Chavanel has been bad the whole Tour, he's not in good shape and he has been crashing. Don't expect him to do anything.

Weather is good atm, not sure what it's like at the top of the climbs, but sunny so far.
Nice interview with Astana before race about bike set-up. Mechanics saying bikes are all extremely light - almost mountain bikes - and that every single rider has a different gear set!
Astana mechanics also a lot happier now as they think that mountains are much safer to ride - less chance of multiple falls.
@itvcycling ITV Cycling
The 6 leaders have increased their lead to 5'34", 55km into the stage. The int. sprint comes at the 119th km and the 1st climb at km 141
Peleton is NOT pushing atm - I spotted a number taking natural breaks as they passed though a wooded area.
Europcar and Confidis are all on the front. HTC taking a break, but they will come up for the Inter-sprint (Cav said that in pre-race interview). |

Yeah. I'm thinking Pineau instead for Quickstep. But it seems the break is beeing given a bit of leesh, so if they have 10-12minutes on the first climb, it seems pointless to go out for those riders, if it's only in order to secure mountain jersey.

I'm a bit disappointed about the breakaway group ! I don't think they have any chance to win. I hope to see some attacks on the Tourmalet. Probably Leipheimer, Gesink, Samuel Sanchez.... |

Great to see Thomas going on the atttack
@Martin_TB Havent you learnt from all other stages, the sprint teams dont care about actually winning the sprint, all that matters is winning the race for whatever is the best position after the break

Well, I think Sky need to go for breaks now that they (like Astana) have lost their leader.
With No real GC hopes Sky still need to show themselves - at least they'll get some TV time before Tourmalet and you never know.....
EDIT:
@SportingNonsense : Yeah, that has been the case up til now, but if there had only been a minor break I would not have been surprised if HTC had gone for the 20 points for Cav.
All academic now - hoping Thomas can stay out and at least get the White jersey back......
EDIT 2
Thinking about it - I feel that Sky MIGHT be targeting the white.
They have no chance for Yellow or Green or Polka - BUT white is possible.
This will explain why Confidis is on the front of the peleton.
White standings are:
1. GESINK Robert 41 RABOBANK 45h 56' 40"
2. TAARAMAE Rein 151 COFIDIS + 00' 51"
3. JEANNESSON Arnold 134 FDJ + 01' 20"
4. RUIJGH Rob 208 VACANSOLEIL-DCM + 01' 42"
5. THOMAS Geraint 117 SKY PROCYCLING + 01' 50"
COME ON G!!

His lack of shape is due to his crashings, but one week prior to the Tour, he was litterally flying at the National's.
Voeckler and Roy were chasing him and couldn't gain any time back on a hilly circuit. |

Theres no Grupetto yet, its still flat He said he'd try to defend his jersey though.

Yes, White is a target for Sky. With:
7. URAN Rigoberto 118 SKY PROCYCLING 45h 59' 59" + 03' 19"
Just a shame for them that Uran and Thomas lost time on Wiggins' exit. Uran was with Wiggins, while Thomas needlessly dropped back - else he would still be in White right now.
