Congratulations once again, probably the most unexpected win so far this season, when the favourites were meant to battle it out. A very nice one though, my tip of Rothaus - Aegon ending in the bottom 5 in the overall standings looks more and more like a very bad tip
Congratulations! |

KBC De Panne Tour - Boom entering top 10 rider rankings
Lars Boom is continuing to ride on a very high level. Within 11 race days he collected already 358 points and made the jump into the top 10 rider rankings. No need to say that our co sponsor Aegon is really happy to see a strong Dutch rider that high in the rankings.
After 3 some kind of disappointing days, where breakaways destroyed all hopes for the overall win in the KBC De Panne Tour, Boom showed his pure strength in the time trial on the 4th day.
Like in the Algarve Tour he finished as first although Koppert`s Flens was really close this time. So he celebrated his 3rd win of the season and is still unbeated in time trials so far. This also secured the 4th overall and the best of the rest as the podium was already secured due to breakaways.
Maxime Vantomme had some kind of bad days here. Being strong on the first day reaching the finish with most favourites he was gapped on the easier second day. Also on the 3rd day, where a sprint was expected he was in the wind far too early and just finished 8th.
Therefore his leadout man Daniel Vesely had a great day and even finished one place ahead of him. The best season result by one of our neo pros so far. And also Jakub Novak as 23rd in the overall and Willems just one spot behind took some points from this race.
In general not the best result for us but with a stage win and 4th overall surely not too bad at all.
After all the cobbles it`s time for some more hilly action and so Hermans, Ruijgh, Hesjedal and Kunitski are asked again.
Also sprinters Gajek and Van Heerden will start their season as also young rider Schoch. |

Presidential Tour of Turkey - Line-Up and goals
With the cobbles coming to an end our hilly riders will get some race days again. The Tour of Turkey is an important race for us and so we expect some good results here.

Rob Ruijgh | Valentin Iglinski | Aurélien Passeron |
Talents
Thomas Koep | Johim Ariesen |
Ben Hermans wants his best season result so far and aims a top 5 in the overall rankings. It surely won`t be easy but we totally trust him. The Belgium is still waiting for his first stage win or a podium but maybe this will change in Turkey.
He will be mainly supported by Corsica surprise Rob Ruijgh, who had a great season so far and already came up to all expectations. Being here as Hermans last domestique on the harder stages he is also going for a top20 minimum. In the last races he really grew in confidence, so you always must him on your list.
Also Aurélien Passeron is a solid rider on hilly terrain. He will help Hermans as good as possible but will also get some freedom to go into the breakaways. Surely one of our active riders so far in this season, although without big luck yet.
In the sprints Eric Baumann wants his first results. It will be hard to get these in the hillier sprint stages but especially the last two should suit him and maybe he can go for a podium. Top 7 is surely a goal on both of these stages.
He will have great support by Valentin Iglinski, who will also be a possibility for the harder sprint stages as he is pretty capable to pass the hills and still has a nice punch in the final.
Thomas Koep and Johim Ariesen still need some experience but they might join some breakaways trying to get the KoM jersey for a day or even more.
In general Hermans and Baumann should have good support to achieve their goals.
Hopefully this race will stop our disappointing sprint results of this season. Neither Cucinotta nor Vantomme could reach very great results in their first tries this season.

Tour of the Czech Republic & Hel Van Het Mergeland
A really disappointing race for us in the Czech Republic. Our aim was to have some nice sprint results with Gajek and maybe a top10 with Hesjedal.
In the end we had to realize that Gajek is not able to bring us the expected results.
Also Hesjedal can do better. Obviously he was waiting for Velits, who was better placed after the time trial. Not the smartest move to be honest.
In the end we had no top20 stage result and can`t be content with the 30th overall by Hesjedal.
Only nice bonus for us is the shared KoM jersey by Jakub Novak, who was active on the last stage to bring us a small present.
Better the situation in Hel Van Het Mergeland. Without a real leader we hoped for a breakaway. Luckily Christoff Van Heerden was active in the start phase and made the jump.
Although the group was caught late in the stage the hardest part was already done. As no Rothaus rider was in the first group after all the hills it was up to Van Heerden to try on his own.
After a nice sprint start he couldn`t keep his high speed and lost some places but still holding the 10th. Surely a nice and unexpected result by him.
This also made our Dutch co-sponsor happy. They were a bit disappointed that we sent a pretty weak squad to their home-race. Especially as there are just 2 races in the Netherlands. The abstinence of the home stars Boom and Ruijgh didn`t help either. But as we heard afterwards they are pretty happy with the season so far and hope for more Boom action in the 2nd half of the season. |

Presidential Tour of Turkey - Strong Rothaus performance
Although we had a pretty strong line-up here, such a great final result couldn`t have been expected. Especially not after looking on a strong startlist.
Our goal to get a top5 with Hermans was reached far more than we had hoped before. But it wasn`t Hermans alone, who took care for this goal. Although he started very good into the race with a 3rd and some bonus seconds on the 2nd day and a 5th on the 3rd day.
It was Aurélien Passeron, who surprised many favourites when he won the 4th stage out of a breakaway attempt gaining more than 10 minutes on the favourite group with the hardest stages gone. Just Tom Zirbel was better placed before and took the 1st with Passeron following 2nd in the overall.
Passeron celebrating his first season win in Turkey
Not even a weaker day on the 6th day, where he lost contact on a 20% climb could make his lose his podium result.
"I always knew that I can reach something out of a break. So I didn`t stop trying. After failing on the 3rd I just tried again and luckily I was the strongest there. Although the gap was pretty close I was always afraid of this 6th stage as the climbs are incredible. But thanks to my team, who did an awesome job there I was able to control the gap and keep a great 2nd. This will give me good motivation to do well in the next races and hopefully repeat such a performance., Passeron in the France television.
Therefore Hermans showed his class again with more top10 results, which makes it 4xtop10 for the strong Belgium and a great 5th in the overall.
In general we have been pretty active here with breakaway participation in 6/7 stages and lots of nice results. Only the performance in the sprints was disappointing with Baumann reaching the best result on the hard 6th stage as 10th. Surely not the stage where we expected him to have his best day.
In the end we are more than happy with two riders in the top5, 3rd in the KoM ranking and 2nd in the Team Ranking. Couldn`t be much better.

Profronde van Drenthe - Vantomme fulfills first team goal
Our first team goal was a top5 in the Profronde van Drenthe. As last of just 2 races in the Netherlands for this season, it`s important for our co-sponsor Aegon to perform well here.
So it was important to present ourselves in the break of the day. So our young riders Schachmann and Koep tried a lot to join the group. In the end it was Maximillian Schachmann setting the right attack.
Schachmann leading the group over the first cobbles
Unfortunately the group was never allowed to create a too big group, so it was up to late attacks to avoid a pure sprint finish.
One of these attacks were launched by our top rider Lars Boom, who is performing extraordinarily well so far.
Boom trying to surprise the sprinters with a late attack
Nevertheless all attacks had no success and the sprinters including Maxime Vantomme were deciding for the win. Unfortunately all sprinters were looking for the Belgiums back, so he was far too early in the wind, which was necessary as some late attackers were still ahead.
Vantomme finishing 5th behind winner Veelers (Koppert)
Still he performed pretty well fulfilling our top5 goal for this race.
Combined with Boom`s 14th, Aegon was happy with the teams` performance. They are looking forward for the next races and hope that the last results will give our riders trust in their strength to stay as successful as in this months.

Thanks. Was a good start as the goals in Hainleite and Eschborn can be very hard. Also top10 team ranking is more than unlikely.
So it will be interesting if I can reach more than 2/5 looking at Boom`s good chance in Bayern. |

Rund um den Eschborn-Frankfurt - Hope for a top 5
The first German race this season is also a very important one. Rothaus expects something here and we will try to deliver.
Cycling in Germany is really coming back to old strength. Several new teams at the start of this season already gave a first impression. The prominent startlist in the first German race also shows this. Next to the home stars Wegmann, Kessler or Haussler many other big names will be seen in the race. Starting from stage hunter Bellis, Claeys, Rabon to Ben Nasser, Vanendert or Kolobnev. And not to forget the sprinters starting with one of the very best in Bennati, but also Gasparotto and Napolitano.
It will be interesting to see if the 5 German teams will dominate the race.
As our team has no real German star, we will be lead by Belgium Ben Hermans, who just showed a great performance in Turkey.
Rob Ruijgh will be his biggest help in the hills, while South African Van Heerden might go for a sprint decision, although it might be hard against the other sprinters.
Tour of Wellington stage winner Carlo Westphal represents the German riders here as also young guns Koep and Krieger. Spaniard Landa is completing the squad.
Last 5 will hopefully try to enter the breakaway to go for their own chance or to help Hermans in the end. That such a breakaway can be a good tactic to come over the hills was seen in Hel Van Het Mergeland, where Van Heerden finished in the top10.
Our goal is a top 5 in this race and therefore we need Hermans to perform very well. He already showed in several sprint finished that he is capable of reaching a top 5. |

Sensational April ending - Disappointing Eschborn-Frankfurt
Lots of big results in March with great results in De Panne, Drenthe, Mergeland and especially in Turkey we made a big step up. Just in Czech our riders had some weaker days.
And unfortunately also the start in April in our first German race was disappointing. Herman`s top 5 aim was too much expected when he came in 16th.
So we made a jump into the top 20 team ranking being on the 17th at the moment. Lars Boom defended his top10 spot and also Hermans, Passeron and Vantomme entered the top 100 willing to get higher during the season.
In May there are some important races for our team. Maybe the most important factor is Lars Boom. Can he continue to do well? Then our team goal of a top 5 in Bayern is definitely possible. A similar result can be expected by him in Luxembourg as well.
Vantomme will mainly focus on the Berlin Pro Race. A race he surely wants to win and where he might meet all the big sprinters for the first time with Bennati, Mohs, Greipel, Ciolek...
He will also go on stage hunting in Dunkerque trying to get his first win to find himself before Berlin.
Another nice race will be the Tour of Southland, where Hesjedal is our man for a good overall. Also Baumann is supposed to start showing our team in the sprints. Something we haven`t done very well so far.
Races like Barcelona or Herning aren`t ridden by our best. So our helpers can go on their own their trying to surprise.
Our goal must be to enter the top 15 after this month and get at least 2 stage wins and with a bit of luck even our first stage race win.

Dunkerque & Herning summary - Southland to come
We started in Dunkerque without big ambitions in the overall. Therefore we had hoped for Vantomme`s first stage win. Unfortunately the competition proved to be quite strong with top sprinters like Mohs, Hushovd or Haussler. Still we hoped for a stage win here by the Belgium. In the end he had 3 podiums although he looked well placed but not being able to finish his positioning.
At least it was good to see that our team did a lot to give him a chance. This gives us hope for future stages in especially for the important one day classics.
In Herning on the other side we had absolutely no expectations. So being with 2 riders in the break with Landa and Vesely and grabbing a few points by Velits in the end was the maximum we could have hoped for.
Next race will be in New Zealand with the Tour of Southland. It will be a hard to predict this race. Baumann and Hesjedal lead us there but some of the CT`s top riders can be expected, so we will also have to try to find the right breaks.
The lineup is completed by Kunitski, Velits, Landa, Blank and Von Kleinsorgen. Last two will have their season debut there being in the team mainly for the team time trials.
So Baumann will be on his own in the sprints. But in general we have some strong fighters, who will try to win from a break. |

Tour of Southland - Successful New Zealand Journey
We participated in New Zealand without the biggest ambitions as the startlist was pretty strong. Lots of big puncheurs and sprinters surprised us at the starting line.
But already on the first stage with a light uphill finish Hesjedal showed his good form by sprinting on the 3rd behind big names like Froome and Claeys.
Due to some breakaways he lost his podium spot, but still being on a top 5, which he unfortunately lost on the 8th and second last stage where he crashed and felt back on the 9th. 2 days before he still convinced on the second uphill finish, where he stayed in the top 5 overall. Also Velits as 12th and Blank`s 18th are good results which also brought us the 3rd in the team rankings.
Hannes Blank wins stage 7 of the Tour of Southland
But the big highlight of the Southland trip was surely Hannes Blank`s stage win on the 7th day, when he attacked out of a small group and celebrated a great win in his first race 2012.
Also Von Kleinsorgen had some personal celebration by wearing the KoM jersey for 2 days and being 3rd in the end in this ranking. Unfortunately he wasn`t able to get another stage win when he finished 3rd on the 3rd day as he had to work hard in the break and was too exhausted in the end.
Last but not least our sprinter Eric Baumann. He really performed well against all the big names and missed the podium by just a bit with two top5 and two more top10 results.
Finally one of our sprinters showed how to sprint.

Barcelona Classic - Surprising win by Iglinski
Without big ambitions we participated in Barcelona. It wasn`t that sure if the course suits the pure sprinters or the puncheurs. So we decided to send Cucinotta and Iglinski as leaders hoping for a small chance to get a top 10.
The rest of the team was filled by young talents.
And the parcours really proved to challenge the sprinters. Some of them including Cucinotta lost contact on the hills and finished far behind.
Iglinski on the other side isn`t a pure sprinter as he showed earlier in the season on the hilly stages. With a brave attack with ~70km to go he joined the former breakaway, which decided the race in the end. Not being a man for the real sprints he surely is a strong rider out of a small group and this he showed everyone in a dominant way winning the Barcelona classic to the surprise of many.
"I had some bad luck in the early season, where I crashed while being in a good overall position. Today I really felt great and so I attacked when Claudio told me this course might be too hard for him. In the end this was the best decision I could have made as the manager gave me all freedoms here. I enjoy being part of this team and at the moment it looks to be on a good way. So I hope to be part of them also in 2013."

German Week - Not fulfilling high expectations
The German HC week with the Bayern Rundfahrt and the Berlin Pro Race is over. As German team we had high expectations here as we sent Maxime Vantomme to Berlin, where he was expected to be one of the top favourites. Also Lars Boom in Bayern was aiming a podium as the race profiles really suit him.
But unfortunately the Bayern Rundfahrt was dominated by breakaways. So the first 3 stages haven`t been won by the stage favourites. Luckily Passeron once again found his way into one of the successful groups and was able to celebrate a 2nd place on the first stage.
But with all these time gaps also Boom`s 3rd in the time trial was not enough to fulfill our top 5 goal in this race.
Boom at least rescued a top 10 finishing as 9th behind a great riding Passeron, who once again proved his worth for us.
Surprising winner is old Spanish veteran Oscar Freire for Koppert, who saved 1s to Van Impe.
Similar disappointment in Berlin. Bennati was surely the big favourite. So we hoped for a podium here.
But as we already noticed during the season, we are obviously not able to bring our sprinters in good positions and so we always suffer to do well on flat stages.
Not even star sprinter Vantomme found a good wheel and so he started the sprint from further behind and at least finished on the 6th delivering some points.
But he surely needs to improve soon as he still needs to justify his high wage. At the moment we are not happy with his performance and we already told him that we expect far more by him in the 2nd half of the season. |

If I wouldn't be so disappointed about Cooke's performance in Berlin, I would share your thoughts about Vantomme But your're right: he definitely needs to perform.. soon! But still: Rothaus had some nice wins in last couple of races.

True. If I have some lucky shots in the next races I still have small hopes for my team goal of a top 10 overall standing. I just need my leaders to perform and my helpers to get some surprising results like Passeron and Iglinski recently.
Quite interested in the new rankings. |

Tour of Luxembourg - Aiming for good overall
After an somewhat disappointing Bayern Rundfahrt we are heading to Luxembourg for another hilly 5 day race.
| Lars Boom | | Ben Hermans | | Christoff Van Heerden | | Martin Velits | | Andrei Kunitski | | Aurélien Passeron | | Thomas Koep |
We decided to send a very strong squad here as we have big plans here.
Boom will lead us here as he might have the best position after the opening prologue, where he is one of the stage favourites.
Next to him it`s Ben Hermans. He had good moments in Turkey and is aiming another strong result. Both of them will have to fight as there are some better puncheurs participating.
With Passeron, Velits and Kunitski we have excellent riders to support our leaders. Also they are free to join the breakaways. Especially Passeron already proved how to find the right groups.
Van Heerden will mainly focus the final stage where he wants a top10. Other than that he might have to support his leaders while young talent Thomas Koep hold up the German flag for our team.
