Press release : Patrik Sinkewitz provisionally suspended

18.03.2011

Earlier today, the UCI advised German rider Patrik Sinkewitz that he is provisionally suspended. The decision to provisionally suspend Mr Sinkewitz was made in response to a report from the WADA accredited laboratory in Lausanne indicating an Adverse Analytical Finding of Recombinant Human Growth Hormone in a blood sample collected from him at an in-competition test carried out by Antidoping Switzerland, authorized by the UCI, at the GP di Lugano on 27 February 2011.

This is the first suspension delivered in cycling on the basis of a test for the detection of the growth hormone and one of the first cases in all sports combined. This adverse analytical finding is therefore a new and important step in cycling’s fight against doping.

The provisional suspension remains in force until a hearing panel convened by the German Cycling Federation determines whether Mr Sinkewitz has committed an anti-doping rule violation under Article 21 of the UCI Anti-Doping Rules.

Mr Sinkewitz has the right to request and attend the analyses of his B sample.

Under the World Anti-Doping Code and the UCI Anti-Doping Rules, the UCI is unable to provide any additional information at this time.

Michael Rasmussen being fat? Yes, it's possible.

I looked through those images, and really wondered how differently the teams chose to equip themselves for the prologue. Some chose TT bikes, some chose regular bikes with TT helmets and plate wheels, and others with regular bikes / helmets / wheels. Odd.

I'll just write it down to personal preferences.

Didn't MR say that he needed to lose 3kg for him to be where he was supposed to?

EDIT: Also... Sinkewitz. I am disappointed. You fool. Smile

This doesn't surprise me at all. It's the reason why I can't understand why anyone can be against any positive being a lifetime ban.

I always thought pro cyclists are more intelligent than football players but more and more cases prove the opposite...

I am leaning towards Schumacher, although Di Luca could surprise me and nip in to 3rd placeRolling Eyes

Contador? Cool

Contador is now in a team which does things properly. He won't test positive.

I recently remembered that back at the start of 2010 my main thought on cycling was "Martinelli is Contador's new DS....if he doesn't test positive now, he never will".

Funny in retrospect.

On the radio ban, I never thought I'd agree so much with McQuaid at anything:

Pat McQuaid wrote :
But unfortunately, on this point, the riders too often tend to forget their role and their responsibilities: there are bigger problems in our sport which need your attention. I have never heard your riders association CPA nor teams association AIGCP showing similar indignation, mobilisation or militancy at the doping scandals which befall our sport. When it comes to raise the contribution to the fight against doping from the prize money, it is a flat refusal. This is where you should be addressing your open letters.

He has a good point.

If it was coming from anyone other than the UCI and McQuaid, then he would have a good point. Wink

Study on the impact of race radios.

https://inrng.com/?p=2149

Full study available here: https://www.gaelgueguen.fr/?p=161

Major Points
The data suggest the following major points:

- There’s been no real change in the number of bunch sprints since the introduction of radios. This runs contrary to the received idea that radios allow several teams to rein in breakaways with precision in order to set up a sprint finish. Yet the actual data suggest that sprinters teams are not any more efficient in a chase with radios than without them.

- In the event of a breakaway staying away then the bunch rolls in with a greater delay when radios are present. The rationale for this is that once informed that a chase is futile the better-informed bunch prefers to sit up and conserve energy for another day. The time gap between the winning move and the arrival of the bunch has doubled. This is a very significant change, by preventing an unnecessary chase the radios actually give breakaways a bigger margin. This means attacking moves appear to be rewarded with more time.

Summary
Based on the evidence presented it appears the “radios make racing dull” hypothesis doesn’t stack up. If anything, radios means the bunch will sit up earlier in the chase and let bolder riders get more time on the overall. The rewards for attacking and staying away are increased. If anything, the data suggest radios reward the bold.
