Cycling is the first gold medal of the Olympics, the mens road race to be precise.

I guess they moved the Shooting event that was first in Beijing, to at least give the chance for Britain to take the first Gold. The circuits over Box Hill rather than around London may alter Cavendish's chances a little, but as far as many will be concerned, flat finish, Cavendish is the #1 favourite.

Yeah if he were racing for Isle of Man rather than Great Britain ala the Commonwealth Games there would be a chance he wouldn't make it to the end, but this way he is going to have a solid leadout around him and a team to take him to the line. |

Too bad Bos will do a repeat of what he did today in Oman
J/k. Anyway, 2012 is still far away, for all we know Guardini continues his horror streak and wins the sprint easily |

Several unreliable sources sey Ricco has passed away. (RIP)
Nothing is official yet, though his condition has been said to have been "deteriorating" over the last few days...

He will be banned again, I'm pretty sure about that. Maybe he is clear now for a month of two, but a tdf start is highly unlikely in my opinion |

Oh, and some random Texan guy who hasn't won anything since 2005 has decided to retire.
Previous reports said that Armstrong would ride American races in 2011, but it seems he's done.

Adrien Niyonshuti of control rider fame has just become the first Rwandan cyclist in 20 years to qualify for the Olympics, after coming 4th in the African Mountain bike champs.

There is a really interesting article by Leonard Zinn right now on Velonews. Talking about all the contributions Lance (and the companies that sponsored him) made to the technical side of cycling. Reason it is interesting is because about 98% of the innovations that are attributed to him either a) have nothing to do with him, or b) were first pushed for by Greg Lemond (e.g. stock Carbon frames).
Apparently Velonews needs to get in its last little bit of Lance grovelling. |

Contador has confirmed he's doing the Giro this year.

So Contador, Antón, Nibali, Menchov, Di Luca, Scarponi, Kreuziger... |
