Not too happy about Ulissi falling down. Hopefully he will be strong enough to take another win in the final week. So far he has been amazing. Also glad that Castaño and Ardila didn't go down.

Not good enough...
Edit: I mean, I don't mind Rujano losing time on most of the competition, that's ok, but where the f*** was Leezer? Why didn't he make the BOTD? I'm very disappointed

Great win by the on-loan 100% Me rider
But its Tenn ant not Tennent
Yes - awesome ride there from Tennant. Cafe de Colombia really just at this race to make up the numbers so a huge bonus.
Typical that the first day Vespa don't get a man in the break, then it goes all the way to the finish.
What are the rules for sacking a rider part way thru' the season? Bosisio has been an absolute waste of space these last few seasons.
And thank you to smowz too. Great pace of reporting. If I don't post thanks at the end of every post, I'm thinking it.

Fenian: It's a pleasure, just setting myself a target do as SN would do with regards to the pace of reporting! Its just the one stage tomorrow though ... but the Zoncalon deserves it! |

Devolder!!!
Excellent performance.
Not happy about Cunego returning to the GC, though, but even with him potentially winning, Devolder's doing an awesome job. And Gerdemann too. 2nd and 6th in GC - can't ask for more.
1st edit:

Seconded - with the addition that the reports are a great read too
2nd edit: Had overlooked this at first, but Gerdemann actually finished 3rd on the stage. Very impressive.

Seems a Top 20 for Keinath is getting very realistic if he can keep this level of performance going. Grivko must at some point dump out the Top 20 though.
But this is going really well.

Castaño lost a bit of ground. He should've been able to keep up with Gerdemann, but ending up in the same group as Pozzovivo and Sella is decent. Castaño dropping back to 4th, but Ardila moving up to 13th. Still good.
Next stage will definately give me an indication as to whether I can still dream of a top 6 for Castaño...

Awful by Rujano. It will be extremely hard for him to get to the top-10. Sponsor goal severely compromised...

Stage performance a bit better - but wasting energy on a competition he is nowhere near in, argh.
And GC placing remains pathetic.

Castaño keeps doing nice, also Ardila climbing slowly into a good overall. 5th and 13th is very nice... The one thing that isn't so good though is that Castaño lost 10 seconds in the sprint, and Ardila 5. Those seconds are worth a lot in the end as they are not super strong TT'ers, and will need every bit to secure as good a position as possible.
Jurgen van Goolen is doing quite nice also, and we are leading the Team competition. So far this Giro has, by far, exceeded my expectations, but we are only in the start of this tough final week. Will be interesting to follow. Hopefully Castaño can keep it up only loosing seconds to riders that are actually better than him...
Losing a minute each day to Intxausti will be expensive, so hopefully he can keep up with him a day or two. Still also riders such as Pozzovivo and Henao Montoya who should be better on the long run.
Realistically Castaño will be 8th, while Ardila will be 13th or so. That would also be very nice...

Interesting stage - can Sella keep on hanging in there??
Cunego is a puncture away from disaster now.

4th and 6th - still great, although I'd love a GC podium. Not that I expected one, and it's not a sponsor goal either, but Devolder's doing great, and with a bit of luck, it may be possible.
Gerdemann had a tough day, but keeps his high GC-spot which is excellent and a lot better than expected.
Anyway, I hope that Sella ends up winning this. Anyone else than Cunego |

It does seem a bit pointless for Cunego to win considering his manager doesn't even exist anymore...
Go Cataldo!

Wow, that was a tough TT (as expected). Podium dreams are done, but a good GC spot and a stage win would be great |

Still going strong. This could've been much much worse for Castaño and Ardila. They did a decent TT, not positionwise, but timewise.
Losing 2 on Cunego oh well, he is in a different league anyway. Only losing a minute on Intxausti and 30something seconds on the other main rivals is very nice. Ardila still in 13th, and with some luck he can climb a position or two (With luck).
And with a huge amount of luck Castaño might be able to avoid losing too much time in the last mountainstages to lose top 6. That would be a dream come true!

That stage proves where Intxausti should be finishing on the mountain stages proper, a better GC position than 11th is certainly within reach

Thats some nice riding of Marzano. 8th in the GC with a chance of even higher is nice. However, the flat stages have been a dissapointment.

Good performance from Duarte there!
Bosisio at last the best placed Vespa rider. In hindsight, should have sent Ginanni here as hill stat was far more important than mountain stat here until a few days ago. Don't remember any of the stages being classified hilly in the profiles though. |
