Well my own goals this year are the same than last year Wink Top10 in all GT`s although it will be hard in Giro and Tour. Plus winning at least 1 monument and a few big classics. HC or PT.

Paris Nice - Stage 2
Saint-Arnoult-en-Yvelines - Contres

It`s the flattest stage this year. So Robert Hunter will try to get a nice result. For all other riders the most important thing is not losing time.

img818.imageshack.us/img818/8817/pcm0019.jpg
After 15km the first group stays and are building a big gap to the field.
Aramendia (Euskaltet), Roux (FDJ), Rovny (RadioShack), Claude (Caisse) and Gaudin (Bbox).
Nothing to see of the wildcard teams Milram and Saur today.

img51.imageshack.us/img51/5359/pcm0020.jpg
First Sprint and Roux wins it ahead of Rovny and Claude. The gap is already at 9`30 with 130km to go.

img245.imageshack.us/img245/5460/pcm0021.jpg
Especially the teams with the strongest sprinters are doing the pace behind. Astana for Davis, Cervelo for Haussler and Saxobank for Haedo.

img841.imageshack.us/img841/4121/pcm0023v.jpg
15km to Contres the group is caught and obviously no one can set an attack with a very high pace now. Astana really wants the win and made 90% of the work over the whole stage.

img837.imageshack.us/img837/1809/pcm0024.jpg
The sprint trains are going into the first row. Unfortunately we don`t really have a lead-out for Hunter and so he must find the right wheel on his own. Today it seems to work. He is hanging behind Klemme-Haedo and Bonnet.
On the other side there is Haussler in first line in an unlucky position. But where is Davis. He is quite far behind after all the hard work for him.

img254.imageshack.us/img254/5772/pcm0025.jpg
Bonnet with his first win for his new Cofidis team. In a very close sprint he is ahead of Mondory and Haedo. Davis was probably the fastest in the end and becomes 4th but his bad position didn`t allow a better result.
Although Hunter had the right wheel he couldn`t follow Bonnet`s acceleration and lost his wheel. So he just became 7th. Not the worst actually.

Todays stage is mainly flar, but on the last 60km it`s more and more hilly. So there might be some sprinters falling back, but most probably is another mass sprint today.

After about 20km todays group was 2min ahead. Cyril Bessy (Saur), Gorka Verdugo (Euskaltet), Mikaël Chérel (FDJ), Markus Eichler (Milram) and Gerben Löwik (Omega).

They stay in front until the 3rd intermediate sprint and have a maximum gap of 8min.
The biggest favourites are Peter Sagan and Allan Davis today as they don`t have big problems with smaller hills. So Astana is doing most pace again.

Although the group was already caught the peloton climbs the last steep hill 16km in front of the finish with an incredibly tempo and so Hunter has first problems to stay in front. Also some other sprinters are falling in the 2nd half of the field.

The sprint starts and as expected the hilly sprinters like Davis, Sagan, Duque are in the first rows.
But Lloyd Mondory overtakes them on the last meters and takes the win.

Because of the hills there are also some riders you wouldn`t expect in the Top10. LL Sanchez and Peter Velits with a 5th and a 7th today. In comparison to other overall riders these 2 are probably on of the best sprinters after a hard finish and so they had much more power than most sprinters in the end.
Cofidis with 3 men in the Top10. So far this race is quite successful for them. But probably we won`t see them very much when the hills begin.

PCM crashed after this stage, so no exports and screens unfortunately. But actually it was almost the same then stage 2, just a different sprint. So the Overall might be a little bit different with the time bonuses. Stage 4 will update it then.

Quite good actually. Luckily his limits will stop him winning a GT once Wink But some Ardennes classics might be possible or a sprinter jersey in a hard, hilly GT as he will never become on of the best sprinters.

img844.imageshack.us/img844/7616/profileg.jpg
It`s not that hilly for big time differences but there might be some attack on the longer climb at 165km and also a possiblity 4km in front of the line.
With lots of mountain sprints there will we a fight for the KoM points.

img824.imageshack.us/img824/9135/pcm0001w.jpg
Many riders wanted in todays group, so the tempo was very high in the first hour. Trent Lowe also tried to attack, but he had no luck, so the best chance for winning the KoM jersey is gone.
The 11 lucky guys today are: Rovny (RadioShack), Guldhammer (HTC), Schär (Cervelo), Fofonov (Astana), Fedrigo (Bbox), Mate (Androni), Fouchard (Cofidis), Peraud (Omega), Downing (Sky), Klimov (Katusha) and Verdugo (Euskatel).
So a very big group and some strong riders in there with especially Fedrigo and Peraud.

img843.imageshack.us/img843/6563/pcm0002.jpg
Especially Lampre, Rabobank and HTC are doing the pace in the peloton. So Guldhammer isn`t working in front.
135km -> 7`00

img405.imageshack.us/img405/2460/pcm0004h.jpg
With a maximum of 9min and 104km to go the group is working quite well together. Just Guldhammer is always in the back.

img98.imageshack.us/img98/4199/pcm0005v.jpg
After the most difficult mountain on 165km the peloton splits and just 86 riders are there. Undortunately we lost most of our riders. Just Millar, Sanchez and Vansummeren were there. With Danielson and Lowe we lost 2 good climbers earlier than expected.
40km -> 3´10

img842.imageshack.us/img842/5967/pcm0006f.jpg
23km to Aurillac Voeckler and Kirchen attack. It`s the first favourites attack today. But it was too early and so they will be caught soon.

img214.imageshack.us/img214/6200/pcm0007m.jpg
11km in front of the finish it`s just Guldhammer in front. Of course he saved most energy and goes for the stage win now. But the peloton isn`t far behind him.

img227.imageshack.us/img227/522/pcm0008.jpg
The last hill in front of the finish. Vaugrenard attacks on the bottom of the hill and follows Guldhammer.

img512.imageshack.us/img512/4015/pcm0009m.jpg
On the second half of the short climb several other riders including Sanchez attack.

img834.imageshack.us/img834/996/pcm0010a.jpg
But it was just Sanchez, who could close the gap to Vaugrenard. Guldhammer with a very fast ride on the last 10km. 2km to go and Sanchez is coming very quick from behind.

img829.imageshack.us/img829/1084/pcm0011r.jpg
And indeed. Sanchez oversprints him and wins this stage. The peloton still caught Vaugrenard and comes 20s later led by Ballan over the line.
So Sanchez also takes the overall lead. A perfect day for Garmin today.

Yes, 94 fitness. He was totally focused on this race. Then doing some other races without this ambition and then relaxing until the Vuelta in top form againWink

Hesjedal will be our leader, but he also uses this race as preparation for MSR, so maximum a to10 would be nice.
He is supported by Kessiakoff and Zabriskie in first line.
Rojas is our man for the sprints. But most sprinters are using this race as preparation, so it might be difficult to get very good result with him.

Favourites:
Biggest favourites are Contador (Astana), Scarponi (Androni), Cunego (Lampre) and Rodriguez (Katusha). But there are several other riders who could win this race like Hesjedal (Garmin), Vinokourov (Astana), Popovych (RadioShack), Kiryienka (Caisse), Anton (Euskaltet), Cataldo (Quickstep), Lövkvist (Sky or Van Garderen (HTC), who developed in a good stage rider.

Riccardo Ricco
Last years winner Riccardo Ricco isn`t participating. His new team Skil-Shimano didn`t get a wildcard invitation and teams like Miche or Cafe seem to be stronger with Schumacher or Laverde.
Also he won`t be able to repeat his 2nd in the Giro d`Italia as Skil didn`t even asked for a wildcard there. Quite interesting if they even ask for a wildcard for one of the other GT`s.

Probably we will see a sprint finish today. But after 4 hills and 2 directly in the last kilometers it`s hard to guess what sprinters are still able to sprint with full power. Then there are also some other riders with quite good sprint skills, which will have much less problems uphill. Rojas normally shouldn`t have big problems here in comparison to other flat sprinters, but his form is just average.

img253.imageshack.us/img253/9976/pcm0012.jpg
After 30km we have the first group. Quinziato (Katusha), Langeveld (Rabobank), Anza (Cermaica), Jorgensen (Saxobank), Ljungblad (Omega), Rocchetti (Miche), Ibanez (Cafe), Selvaggi (Astana) and Azanza (Euskaltel).

img168.imageshack.us/img168/3536/pcm0013f.jpg
20 km later 5 more riders are joining them. Pliuschin (Katusha), Ulissi (Lampre), Kadri (Ag2r), Piemontesi (Androni) and Hutarovich (FDJ) are joining. So most wildcard teams have their men in the group of the day.

img2.imageshack.us/img2/5994/pcm0014.jpg
Just Colnago has no one there. As they have no one for the overall they want to work for Modolo on the flat stages. We`ll see in the end if their work was worth it.
At least the gap becomes never bigger than 4 minutes.

img155.imageshack.us/img155/1864/pcm0015.jpg
Short before the 20km mark the last rider is caught. Langeveld had tried it with a solo and attacked with 45km and 1`30 to the peloton.

img155.imageshack.us/img155/3420/pcm0016.jpg
A big crash under the 10km mark!!! Every team is radioing their managers if there are some teammates or even a leader down there.
After a few seconds of a big chaos Euskaltel and Androni felt back.
Igor Anton and Egoi Martinez crashed and also Scarponi, on of the big favourites. This will be a hard run for them now to avoid losing time.
Also C.A. Sörensen crashed and although he is their strongest climber they don`t send him guys to help him. Obviously they have other plans.
Luckily none of our riders was inflicted in this 20men crash.
Unfortunately two riders had to abandon. Graeme Brown (Rabobank) brokes his rip and misses until end of March. Filippo Baggio (Ceramica) got a fractured coccyx and misses until mid of April.

img686.imageshack.us/img686/2092/pcm0017.jpg
Most sprinters were out of power or inflicted in the crash, so Cancellara takes todays win. Also rojas had big problems on the last hill and so Hesjedal was our best rider today and is surprisingly in the top10.

Paris Nice - Stage 5
Maurs - Mende

img836.imageshack.us/img836/1739/profilehe.jpg
One of the hardest stages in this Paris Nice version will expose the best riders.
The last 100km are mostly a little bit uphill, so it`s nor very comfortable to ride even if it`s just a low percentage. Then in the final 10 km there are 2 little climbs.
Especially on the second one, finishing in the finish, we can expect lots of small groups with different times.

img254.imageshack.us/img254/7097/pcm0001f.jpg
After 15km Bertagnolli (Androni), Ardila (Rabobank), Roy (FDJ), Portal (Sky) and Grivko (Astana) are in the first group. Hoveljinck (Quickstep) is following them alone but he always has problems when it`s going uphill.

img541.imageshack.us/img541/6563/pcm0002.jpg
24km later he reaches the group and unfortunate for him is losing contact again on the starting climb. Bad day for him.

img145.imageshack.us/img145/9901/pcm0003i.jpg
120km to go and 7´00 for the group. Garmin is doing the pace now. Especially Duggan and Dean on the flatter parts now.

img688.imageshack.us/img688/7573/pcm0004y.jpg
66km to Mende Mazzanti (Katusha) and Hermans (RadioShack) attack.
Obviously the tempo was too low for them.

img85.imageshack.us/img85/7910/pcm0005d.jpg
Because both of them are just 1min back in the classement some other teams like Liquigas, Saxobank and FDJ are helping us now and controll them in a good distance.

img209.imageshack.us/img209/966/pcm0006b.jpg
Like yesterday Vaugrenard sets the first favourite attack. He tries it already on the first hill. Some riders are following him. As long as Vansummeren still feels good to do the pace Sanchez can save his energy for the final hill.

img836.imageshack.us/img836/273/pcm0007.jpg
World Champ F.Schleck, Gilbert and Vaugrenard are reaching Ardila and Grivko, but the peloton is coming again.

The final 3km climb begins and Sanchez increases the tempo a bit.

img301.imageshack.us/img301/7236/pcm0009.jpg
Gilbert has still power to attack and just Sanchez can follow him, Vaugrenard also tried but had to stop after a short time. So 2 riders in front now then the peloton splitted in several groups now.

img249.imageshack.us/img249/7236/pcm0010.jpg
Gilbert as the faster sprinter wins this uphill sprint, but at least Sanchez lost no time today and will stay in yellow.
Vaugrenard, probably one of the strongest today becomes 3rd with 48s back. Maybe he should have waited until the last climb to attack.

Also the climb wasn`t that long the time gaps were quite big. A lot of riders almost lost the overall today.

Hope so, too. Because of university I haven`t played during the last few days and just did about 2 reports a day. So Tirreno stage 2 report is finished and will be posted quite soon. Then I have nothing to post and must play before again.
But Sanchez`s shape is absolutely great and except of Gilbert they are a bit further away.

sobota
