It's strange stages. I always get the last places in short ones, but if stage is more than 25 km's, I usually take top-10. But a victory? With Columbia, Garmin, Katyusha, etc... it's unbe-fucking-lievable!

If you have a few riders who are good in TT it's not hard to ride top 10. In the beginning you let the weaker ones ride almost full gass and when you think it's time for the TT'ers then they go full gass. Just make sure you stay with 5 and your most important rider!
It's just the fact of not going 100% from the beginning, you can win more at the end then at the beginning because all the teams are fresh then. The same counts for normal ITT's... |

I find that long TTT's are easy, I dominate if I have just 1 good rider, however the short ones I can't do anywhere near as well

Fifth stage. Novara - Novi Ligure
After surprisingly successful TTT stage we were cheerful, and even made little festive dinner. But we didn't drink champagne or anything like this, as you could think. We have our minimum task for the race - a stage victory, now we can concentrate on more significant goals - to make it to top-10 in GC in Verona.
Today's stage was considered as flat, but if you will look at results, you could ask yourself: WTF?
Yes, today was not so high temperature - only 16 degrees. And at last 30 kilometers there begun a bloody wind. With hills at second half of distance and fatigue after yesterday's TTT it made a stage not only for sprinters.
I thought to try my sprinting skills today, but I was exhausted in finish kilometers and didn't do it. Our sprinter, Ginanni was good again today, and finished 6th for second time.
Stage was won by Piccolo Prince, Cunego. He was unbeatable today, with winning distance over two bike lenghts.
I have to say, that today there was big breakaway. Over 20 riders were there and my teammate, Rubens Bertogliatti, have ridden there. His task was to get maximum mountain points and he made it brilliant. He now have 8 points and he leading mountain classification.
Tomorrow there will be hard hilly stage. I think that it could be very difficult to stay with the leaders, but I don't expect big attacks. I counting on bunch sprint and hope to be close there.

Sixth stage. Fidenza - Carrara
This stage was considered as flat, and everyone expected that sprinters like Pozzatto will take their chances here. And everything was like that till last climb.
Breakaway was chased down at hill foot and it was a mistake. Just in second after catching breakaway Tony Martin made fantastic attack, which was supported by Juan-Jose Cobo. They made huge distance and on downhill they was followed by few other riders, like Cunego and Ivanov. But Cobo was best downhiller today and he was alone when he crossed finish line.
Main group, where were almost all my teammates (and me too) loosed not much time, just half of a minute. But it was a little disappointing, as no one form us was able to follow that attack. But, main contender, Pelizzotti, was hidden today. he and his team didn't do any thing. So, it may be a sign, that they are confident in their tactics.
Our tactics will be revealed in two days, at first mountain stage.

Seventh stage. Carrara - Montalcino
The stage I was aware of. I mean, those white gravel and so on. I was always bad on that type of road. I am very light and feel myself very bad when the road isn't smooth.
So, today I said to myself: "I need to be good on the stage, I don't want to loose the race here." So, right from the start I was in front of main group, to have an attacking position. And when we came to last sector os the stage, I was waiting for attacks. And they didn't keep us waiting. Pozzatto, Cunego and Maaskant were the first to attack.
Me, Scarponi and Ginanni tried to hold with attackers and we were good. All of us get it into top-10. But Pozzatto was unstoppable today. He started his sprint from 10th position and in 200 meters he already was in leading place.
I finished 10th today and I am satisfied with my fitness. After this stage I am in 11th place in GC. I hope that tomorrow I will be in top-10.

Eighth stage. Chianciano Terme - Terminillo
Last stage for today.
First mountain stage and we expected at last to see who will fight for overall victory. And of course, will somebody from our team be at good mountain shape.
Right after start I didn't felt myself good. It was something with my stomach. I went down to race doctor and he gave me some pills. In fifteen minutes Michele Scarponi made the same thing and we realized that we have some kind of poisoning. Luckily nobody else haven't this or it would be the worst stage for us.
When pace was normalized after breakaway (yes, of course it was!) I went to doctor once again to see how am I going and he gave me other pill. I think that it was very good pill, as in half of a hour I was feeling much better. Almost normal.
Of course, main racing started on final climb. First who didn't like a pace that was made by Liquigas at that time, was Bruseghin. He and Niemiec attacked right from mountain foot. Next group was consist of Garzelli, Popovych and Scarponi. Michele was still feeling bad and he decided to attack early and to have some gap.
My turn was next. I've seen that Seeldrayers and Cunego going to attack and set on their wheels. We quickly cathced group of Scarponi, but when I look around, I've seen that Pellizotti passes me by with enormous speed.
I tried to stay with him but it was impossible. I had to let him go. Instead of him I found very good group with Martin and Pozzovivo, the man, who have beaten me many times in past years.
We rolled very fast, but we couldn't match Pellizzoti. He was like a god today. Only Bruseghin and Garzelli tried to do something with him.
This trio I think will be main contenders in this year Giro.
It is a shame but today I have shown that it's too early for me to lead a team. I had good legs in spite of being ill in the start. I could finish ... mmm... maybe even 4th today but I made too many attacks. I answered to any attack made by riders in my sight instead of rolling in my own tempo.
So, I was wasted quickly and when Pellizzo crossed a finish like I had 2 km to go.
I've finished 11th with lag of 1'49. I was the best of Andronni, so I guess, we know who will be our leader now. With this good result I am nowat 7th position in GC, which is very good for me, as a novice in Grand Tour.
Stage results:
