Vuelta a España 2009

Sorry Ruben, but we kinda needed a poll Pfft

So who's going to win?

It's a balanced, but very hard route this year. There are an extremely high number of mountains. More typical of the Giro usually. There are also two 30km ITTs and a prologue this saturday.

As usual Unipublic have thought of the fans by filling the weekends with GC stages.

Stage 1: Assen Prologue (4.8 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/1_perfil.gif

Flat prologue on the Assen TT circuit (seriously, the racetrack's course is actually called "TT circuit". Nice coincidence Smile )

Stage 2: Assen - Emmen (203.4 km)

Stage 3: Zutphen - Venlo (189.7 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/3_perfil.gif

Stage 4: Venlo - Liége (225.5 km)

Stage 5: Tarragona - Vinaros (174 km)

Stage 6: Xativa - Xativa (185.7 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/6_perfil.gif

Stage 7: Valencia ITT (30 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/7_perfil.gif

Flat time trial with many corners in the harbour in Valencia, where the European GP was held last weekend

Stage 8: Alzira - Alto de Aitana (206 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/8_perfil.gif

Special category climb. Look out.

Stage 9: Alcoi - Xorret de Catí (186 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/9_perfil.gif

Notice the 24% incline of the Xorret de Catí just before the finish

Stage 10: Alicante - Murcia (162 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/10_perfil.gif

Stage 11: Murcia - Caravaca de la Cruz (191 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/11_perfil.gif

Stage 12: Almeria - Alto de Velefíque (174.5 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/12_perfil.gif

Stage 13: Béjar - Alto de Sierra Nevada (175 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/13_perfil.gif

This one ends above the clouds. The final climb isn't very steep at all, but it finishes at monstrous height where the oxygen is thin

Stage 14: Granada - La Pandera (157 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/14_perfil.gif

Expect the biggest time gaps to happen here. La Pandera is extremely uneven and its breaks in rhythm kill riders.

Stage 15: Jaén - Córdoba (168 km)
www.lavuelta.com/09/imgrecorrido/15_perfil.gif

Stage 16: Córdoba - Puertollano (170.3 km)

Stage 17: Ciudad Real - Talavera de la Reina (175 km)

Stage 18: Talavera de la Reina - Avila (187 km)

Stage 19: Ávila - Segovia (188 km)

Stage 20: Toledo ITT (26 km)

Stage 21: Rivas - Madrid (110 km)

I voted for Basso, but it's an incredibly tough choice. For me, Basso, Valverde and Sanchez is the most likely podium, but not necessarily in that order. Just 3 days to go now Smile

EDIT: By the way isso, did you mean to leave Gesink off that list?

Yeah, they have it sideways for some reason. WTF

I voted for Valverde. He hasn't peaked form once this season, so he should be just as fresh as Sánchez and much fresher than anyone else.

And the flag has the colours of Luxembourg also. I think Netherlands is supposed to have a darker blue.

I as well chose Valverde. I find him to be a better overall GC candidate than Sanchez. Should be a great race, however.

Isso, you will be executed for leaving Gesink off that list, but entering Barredo, Anton, Tondo and god forbid even Horner and Danielson.

Execution is 3 days away. Make something of your last days Pfft

Wyman
And Cunego... wait i voted for him... and he's only riding for 2 weeks... oh well xD

The polls system sucks. I made a .txt list and pasted them one by one. Of the 19, I forgot to paste Gesink. So sue me.

As for Danielson, Barredo and Vinokourov who have less chance of winning the race than I do, I posted them before someone said "what about....?"

EDIT: Gesink added now Wink

*chauvinist vote goes to Gesink*

Realistic, non-poll vote goes to Valverde.

Ruben organized scandal here..but he probably ain't gonna vote for a Gesink anyway...

and he did it..Smile

ember
I have to say like the danes: Where is Fuglsang?Pfft

I think he has a decent shot in going top5Smile

Coop
I voted Mosquera. I also think the rest of the podium will offer suprises, some that few expected.

ruben
Woa. Easy now. Fuglsang was not even in the top 5 of the Dauphine and already worsening in the last mountain stage. Your best hope is that he keeps a good level during 3 weeks and finish top 10

Ok I can see doubt in Danielson....why such a huge doubt in Horner. Did you see how he was riding at the Giro....

ruben
You honoustly believe Horner can be a Vuelta winner?
I'm sorry, but no. Simple no. And yes I have seen the Giro.
