As we all know Euskatel is a team that only sign spanish (or even Basque) riders. This is not true in pcm, however.
Now, there is a field in DYN_team (can't check it's exact name since I'm not at my pcm computer) that holds a value of how likely teams are to sign riders that aren't from any of the teams focus contries (and Euskatel only has one focus contry - Spain). It ranges from 1 (highly unlikely) to someting else 8? 20? (what ever, dosen't matter).
National teams have this value set to 0, which could be interpreted as forbidden. What would happend if the value was set to 0 for Euskatel? Would it lead to crashes? Would it work?
It could be that the value is set to 0 because NTs don't sign riders and that they are goverened by totally different rules.
If not tested before, it's worth to test this. |

It's probably not the likelihood of signing riders from different countries, but the likelihood of the team doing contracts/signing lots of different riders all the time. So a 0 would be to do no new signings, and an 8, 20, or whatever is to do more signings. Surely you may have noticed that some teams always seem to sign leaders for just one season, whilst others sign them for a full three years.
I doubt there would be a rule introduced/coding inputted into the game purely to govern Euskaltel's signing policy in real life. And if there was, surely you'd think Cyanide would have already set up the DB like that/the game like that.

You might be right, but as I recall it the variable is called something including nationalisme. I've seen posts claiming that NTs have started to sign riders in some save games. Changing that 0 to something else would have that effect if the variable controlls what you say it does.
Anyhow, I'll have a look at it later on. |

To recruit only riders of the nationality you must set 25 as value of nationalism, so Euskaltel won't recruit any foreigner. (but if they aren't enough riders of the nationality the team will recruit others foreigners)

I don't know, CrueTrue told me that but I don't know more.
[edit] Yes on PCM06 it was possible to add regionality but they have deleted it, same stupid thing for "liserés"

Basque second nationality used to be in PCM. But then Cyanide took it out, god knows why

Still, having Euskatel purely spanish would be a good start.
Contemplating putting together a diffrent db, hence the question. Will probably post more questions. Is there a db making guide out there somewhere? I have the basic knowledge, but would be nice to have a guide accessible, since I'm more than likely to screw things up at some point. |

No guide, because to write the guide would take as long as making the DB, and, in my experience, when you write a guide for something, you generally get a lot more questions in return, rather than answering any to start with.

Yes, I'm aware of it. But it'll still come in handy. Thanks.
Btw, tested the '25' thingy and it worked out fine. The '25' teams are only signing riders from their own country (so far, currently mid august). Saxo Bank's player of interest was a second-third class danish sprinter. |

What if it's set een higher? A nationalism value of say 100?
Tried setting all teams to 25 (and deleting 2nd nation), but Liquigas signed Freire anyway. Not that there's any lack of italian riders. |

There's 4 options: 1, 2, 3 and 25.
1 = very, very international
2 = very international
3 = international
25 = only riders from the team's country
In the Expansion Pack, we're using 4 for some teams, but this doesn't work and should've been set to 25 instead of 4.
Using any other of the mentioned numbers won't make any difference and will act like setting the option to 1. |

Euskaltel only sing basque riders and no only spanish.
An example is Romain Sicard, who sing for Euskaltel for next year and his nationality is French, but he is basque, and a lot of spanish riders can't sing for euskaltel because they are not basque. So I think that the nationality value is not the solution for the realism. |

It's better that Euskaltel only signes riders from Euskaltel, than the whole world.

You're right, but unfortunately, we can't 'emulate' this in PCM. |

In my opinion the nationalism value is no the solution because is the same unreal that Contador or Sastre sing for Euskaltel that Evans or Vinokourov do.
The solution could be put another country in STA_country named Euskadi or Basque Country and link the team and all the basque riders to this country, but is to much complicated and then those riders cant ride the spanish and french championships so no realism posible.

Plus Euskaltel-Euskadi's official policy is to only sign riders who have connections to the Basque region, not necessarily only riders of Basque nationality. Samu Sanchez for example isn't Basque, he just trained and became a cyclist in that region. But was born outside of the boundaries of the region. Likewise they had a Colombian or Venezuelan mechanic for a while, who had been living in the region as a Basque for 10+ years...he still wasn't Basque though.
So yeah, replicating someone's particular socio-political whims in a computer game is difficult to say the least... |

Hello, and here goes the opinion of someone from Spain:
All riders from Euskaltel but Samuel Sanchez (who is from Asturias, like me) are basque, thanks to the will of some regional ideology.Despite of that, you can't count the Basque Country as a nationality (it is between France and Spain).
Here in Spain there are some regional problems about "independence". There is a terrorist group called ETA which fights (to give it a name) for the independence of the Basque Country. Similar things happen with Cataluña (Catalonia), where Barcelona is, but there is not any terrorism .
Also take into account that its many many years since Vuelta a España has last past through the Basque country. Now the regional goverment has changed and we will see it again.
So I think that is why regionalities where removed from PCM (millions of people in my country would be annoyed if basque was considered a nationality, instead of spanish one).
Thanks for reading and sorry for my embetterable english writing. |
