Who here thinks Frank Schleck is holding Andy back?

Not really.

If Frank had been on a different team, Andy wouldn't have won LBL this year.

Frank is there to support Andy in the GT's - and who better for that than your own brother.

So, no I don't think so.

*Raises hand*

Not in classics, but when a GC is involved, that's the case.

"I love him, I think he's great. He's transformed the sport in so many ways. Every person in cycling has benefitted from Lance Armstrong, perhaps not financially but in some sense" - Bradley Wiggins on Lance Armstrong

I agree with Resident Moron. You could tell that Andy really held back sometimes to get Frank on the podium and even though he still couldn't have won it would have been closer.

Sort of.

To a certain extent, I think best results for a GC contender are reached when he's self-centered enough to sacrifice EVERYONE on his team for his own success. You have to be smart about it... but there has to be a clear willingness to let a teammate slide down 4-5 spots in the rankings if it means gaining 30 seconds for the leader. You never know if that 30 seconds will mean the difference between a win and a loss.

With Frank, I think Andy is too nice (or too good a brother) to sacrifice him the way you need to as the main GC guy. Too many times, Andy was riding at the front while Frank was recuperating... when Frank probably should have been pulling with his last reserves and burning himself out to try to weaken Contador for an Andy attack.

I think Frank is a fine rider. I think he'd be a great teammate for anyone else in a GT. Perhaps not Andy though.

Not really... Andy would've finished the Tour 2nd no matter how you twist it. Contador was just superior, so why not try to help your 2nd best rider to achieve podium aswell?

That was basically what happened at the end, but before that, Andy was pretty much on his own to beat Contador...

you all forget they are brothers.
they have been cycling together for their entire life.
thats not something you give up so easely
prevent hangovers --> stay drunk
pozzato, basically the most stupid cyclist around

RIP WW. Gone but not forgotten

Sometimes he helps, like in the classics and like the 17th stage of the Tour, but sometimes is a dead weight, yes.
But he as been very important for Andy's development in this past years.
Time to separate them? No, not yet. Maybe in 2011, but it's soon to talk about that.
Nowadays they're the perfect teammats for each other.

In an interview they were asked whatever they could see themself riding on diffrent teams, Andys answer; "I'd rather quit".

No he wont quit..
Yep Fränk slowed him down..but tour 2nd. was max. to take..
It was so fun to watch how they worked together..against Astana. Great moments.

I think as Andy matures even more and is for sure the clear cut better rider of the two, Frank will start sacrificing himself more for Andy. He already has done so to a greater extent than in the past.

This question is just ridiculous and the only reason anyone is asking it is because Andy obviously could have won Ventoux had he not backed off to help Frank. The rest of the time he went off plenty times without him. Frank is one of the best climbers in the world how could he hold anyone back? They are the best One-Two combo in cycling. Andy knew he wouldn't win and the team wanted two men on the podium. There really isn't any logical debate.

Are you serious or i missed a joke?

lets see he was 4, 1 and 6 on the big mountain stages where the favorits were riding, nah he can't be more than medicore at most.

Yes I did actually when Frank is among the 5 best in the mountains in Tour de France he can be said to be "one of the best climbers in the world", that he held Andy back, is much more Riis and Andersens fault really.

That pretty much says it all. Is Wiggins one of the best just because he was fourth??

And i'm not saying he held the brother, i think the opposite.

I don't see what's wrong with saying Frank is one of the best climbers in the world.

If we talk about climbing stages..Fränk beat Wiggins with minutes..
Fact... Fränk Schleck was 2009 TdF one of the best climbers.
