So, on to the first mountains. A mountaintop finish rigth away, plus with 224km its a long stage as well. Will Contador be able to takeover the lead? Or will he be caugth in teamtactics?

Stage 7: Barcelone - Andorre Arcalis, 224km, mountaintop finish
Contador to take control?

Here we go: the first mountain stage of this year's Tour de France. For all 224 kilometres of today's ride, the roads will be uphill - save for the descent of the first of the two climbs, the Port d'Oliana, a 7.7km-mountain averaging 7.1 percent gradient. Afterwards, it will be a long drag up to the tiny Principality of Andorra and its ski station, the first of three mountain top finishes of this year's Tour.

The last time the Tour came to Arcalis, in 1997, Jan Ullrich broke away solo on the final stretch to the summit (10.6km at 7.1 percent) and lay the foundations for his later overall win. Today, the GC favourites should come out of their hiding places in the pack and put their climbing legs to the test. Spanish climbers will be especially motivated to score the victory in a bid for the polkadot - or the yellow jersey.

Yeah. Astana are favourites, but don't forget the Schleck brothers. Still, hope Alberto Contador will win it and take the GC lead

I going to say igor anton as it is near spain and he might be let go if not a breakaway win Grin

schleck93
Anton might try something from the bottom, and I predict that Contador is gonna show Armstrong who's the boss.

i hope astarloza will hang on with the best and start to climb to top 10 in gc Wink and that garmin with Vande velde in front will make a good result, and with wiggins hangin on quite good as in some stage in the giro.

Don't know that they will win the stage, but someone from Astana will be in Yellow after tomorrow, that is unless they "let" someone else take it so they don't have to work for two weeks....My feeling is they want Lance in the Yellow until the Alps (for publicity) then Alberto will take over.

Gustav Larsson 9 now and was 14 at the Giro last year. Then we count "clean" Ricco and 3 CSF Group-Navigare riders. So he has been top 10 before in a Grand Tour and if he get free hands he can doit again. But he will work his ass off for the Schlecks.

Today on cyclingnews' commentary they said that many pundits think Cance can win the Tour. I don't know if they meant eventually or this year, but either way I'd like to meet those pudits.

And SLAP them in the face.

Pundits... Never heard that word before, does it mean idiot?

they probably think that because he won the tour de suisse and that had mountain stages.

Armstrong will set a furious pace at the beggining of the climb and will look behind and he will see only Contador on his wheel. He will then accelerate and win the stage, with the rest of the guys 3 minutes back Banana

Well, Danish media is obsessed with this idea. Riis says 'no' this year, because Canc needs to lose some weight - but isn't denying that it may happen in the future.

Cancellara to hold onto yellow. I think he might surprise us all and win the Tour.

If Canc indeed loses som weight (but not to much that it has influence on his TT), he can indeed win the tour.
