....and that's why the Giro's the coolest Grand Tour.

So now it's time for the Dauphiné Smile
And given that the usually more exciting Tour de Suisse has a horribly crappy route this year, the Dauphiné is "in".
And luckily the course is the best since I can remember.

Starts next weekend with a 10km prologue. pretty damn long for a prologue.

Monday's flat. Tuesday's flat/rolling.
Wednesday's a longer than usual ITT. Over 40kms.

Then....the mountains.

Thursday's dead flat.....except for the Ventoux at the end.
Friday's the Izoard, then an insanely long descent, then the slight rise at the finish. Not many time differences.

Saturday's the queen stage. Galibier, Croix-de-Fer and Madeleine. That's the hardest mouintain stage you're likely to see in any race this year.
Finally, Sunday there's a certain mountain a bit far from the finish, so as usual the final staeg of the Dauphiné should be one for potential GC revolution due to unexpected attacks.

Basso's riding....Evans...Contador....well, basically anyone that matters (except Sastre) since the route in Switzerland sucks so much this year.

Roll on Dauphiné! Smile

Roll on Dauphiné

Now, i might just say, the start in Nancy makes 0 sense, in fact it makes 0 sense until it re-enters dauphiné region.

Can't wait.

p.s. Are you awesome? Mais... non! Desolé!
My reason behind this... well uhh. I'll reveal on TS when i get back home on Monday

Is it next weekend yet? A really nice route to make it up for the crappy Tour de Suisse route, but I guess we'll survive Pfft

Once again it'll be impossible for me to watch it... bah

Anyway I've taken a look at the last 7 years podium finishers and did some maths:

since 2002, 14 different riders have finished within the top 3

of those 14 riders, 9 of them were either suspended or strongly linked to doping cases

so these evidence suggest that whoever finishes in the Dauphine's podium will have a 64% chance of being caught doped

64% Alberto... you better bring your lucky clover!

Let's see if Gesink can improve his 4th place of last year

niconico
Let's do some Dane-hyping: Jakob Fuglsang for the podium.

Seriously though he could do a good result here, he was one of the strongest climbers in Catalunya and count on his form to be even better here.

Yes it's his peak, while others aren't peaking untill about a month. I'll be looking forward to seeing him race here Smile

Worse...

Exam season...

watching a cycling stage takes all the motivation to study. Mont Ventoux... Le Galibier... tempting but I shall not give in!

Yes, you can. And I'm gonna point out that you are a loser then, sir.

The prologue in Nancy isn't flat at all, as you can see here

The problem with most profiles is the scale. If you see it closer, the hill is just 140m in 3km. That is a walk in the park, anyways.

That "hardest mouintain stage you're likely to see in any race this year", does anyone have the profile?

I agree with issoisso that the dauphine looks better. 1st of all there is the ventoux which i can see being an epic stage considering it is in the tour and they will try and get alot of info from it like where to push hard etc. Also it usually has the better riders in it. The tour of suisse is for usually up and coming riders to go and raise confidence look at roman k last year i doubt he would have got that result at the dauphine!!!

well if you but me in the situation Suisse or Dauphine..then Suisse it is..
Don't know even why? Maybe because it is closer to tdf..and I always feel sry. for guy who won Dauphine..poor bastard you have peaked to early.

2006 Levi..was nowhere at the tour in the same year. Once was trying to go after breakaway..did not made it.
2007 and Moreau..was able to follow only at the first mountain stage..(Smile he was TdF podium candidate..strong one)..
2008 Valverde..tour stage 1 win..first week domination..and that was it.

Also I remember wet and pale Vino ..who probably filled he's blood bags in Dauphine
