As the Giro starts in a month i thought lets start the thread for it.
First predictions.
Whos everyones predictions on who will ride the Giro this year and who will win it even though its well too early to predict.
it would be good to hear everyones opionon.

"Supergiro di italia" is the name cyanide gave it in PCM because they can't use the real name  
Basso's by far the main favorite, in my book. |

Simoni is too old, maybe Scarponi can do something but it would be interesting to see what he can do against the big guys.
Di Luca doesn't seem to be such a good climber like in 07 Giro (but maybe we know why). The same thing about Cunego, he just can't climb anymore on high mountains (not really sure if he could that before)
Menchov and Sastre are there but they are focus on the Tour so no big moves from them, maybe a podium or top10 for one.
So Basso could be the big favourite. This could be his main reason for his comeback. I go for Basso's win
Armstrong... is he a favourite?

i would like Basso to win it becaue im glad to see him back but if Armstong is racing then i would like to see him win it or Leipheimer, but i dont think Leiphiemer will be strong enough. |

I think his the opposite of Menchov. After he rides a GT in a year he can't do too well in the second, so I don't think he will risk too much in Giro as he is the defending champion in Le Tour.

I'd say that Basso and Pellizotti are the two favourites, but of course they ride on the same team. Leipheimer should do well (I think he is doing the Giro) and also Di Luca I'd imagine will be in with a chance. Not sure how Sastre and Menchov will do. |

I never saw Leipheimer like a big favourite for GT's. He isn't such a great climber, I think he was just in top top top form last Vuelta.
(remember that he sucked in Giro)

I think that this one will defenitly be weaker than the Giro last year. All the favourites have weakness or this isn't their main goal of the season.

I would really like to see Pellizotti win it. As for Leipheimer, his time trialling ability is a great attribute to have considering the opposition's qualities (although not all the contenders of course - Basso for example). Looking back to last year, Contador's time trialling helped him alot against his rivals and this was key to his success. |
