Cobbles Season
Deadpool
The season kicks off with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussles-Kuurne in the next few days, and continues up through Paris-Roubaix. Here's the spot to talk about the races.

Personally I think Pozzato will take the win at Nieuwsblad, but I really hope that Dominique Rollin, who is one of my favorite riders, will ride well.

Smitho
Personally i would like to see flecha or hoste do something and i think they are coming to good ages Grin but i think cervelo will suprise alot of people and nobody is talking about them especially with hushovd for gent and hammond and klier for PR

Deadpool
Honestly by this point I do not see either Flecha or Hoste winning a major cobbled race. There are just too many riders who are higher quality than them, and with only 5-6 major cobbled races, you see guys like Boonen, Cance, and Ballan starting all of them, I see no way they win on their own talent (I could see them winning by luck, but thats it.)

i think Chavanel will win Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, hes made it one of his targets of the season, I also hope Greg Van Avermaet will do well and win something big this year =)

mrlol
yeah, I think guys from the second row will ge their chance this weekend. As you say guys like Chavanel or van Avermaat but also guys like Langeveld, maybe Posthuma, etc.

The Boonens, Cancellaras and Ballans of this world will wait for the bigger races to come I think.

Rabo have a great team this year for the classics, even more than other years

mrlol
yes they do, but not one top gun. Of course both Nuyens and Flecha have done podiums in the two biggest cobbeld classics but if one of them can win one... I've got to see it happen.

but the team surely has the potential for it. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow and sunday Smile

ye they need things to go their way a bit if they wanna win it, but its far from impossible =)

i cant wait either lol

Rabobank will be able to control the pack in a way that no team has been able to do since Mapei. They can stick 5 guys up on front who are serious cobbled riders, and can still have their leaders sitting back comfortably. Also, they have enough firepower to launch a lot of attacks and wear out the other teams.

Xavier
what do you think of Roelandts and Hagen mrlol?
on sporza.be they get mentioned by almost every commentator as "potential revelation of the year", but i dont get what the fuzz is all about with roelandts, i mean hes ok but dunno on what they base that he could do well in semi classics
hagen on the other hand is great and might win some smaller races Smile hes a born winner

Deadpool
I'm not mrlol, but I think that Roelandts might surprise some this year, I think he has the ability to become a guy who, if not able to win one of the big races, can certainly finish high-up, and could be a great super-domestic on the cobbles. As for Hagen I think he is over-rated on the cobbles at least, but I could be wrong.

Not forgetting the important Scheldeprijs, the week after Roubaix

Especially for someone who's never ridden a real cobble race.

Should be two interesting races this weekend.

QS, Silence and Rabo are all stronger than last year, imo.

Can't see the winners coming from any other team.

mrlol
yeah, the battle quick step, silence and rabobank should definatly be on. but maybe not this weekend already.

and about Roelants. he has the potential to become a good classic rider, but I dont think this year we be a major breakthrough for him. he's had a good year last year, and two in a row would be too much I think.

And Hagen I'm not too sure about either. he seems to be more of a TT'er. if he sets his mind to the classic, maybe he could do something. he's good on the flat so... we'll see.

both could be the revelation, but I'm more thinking about a guy like van Avermeat. he's shown to be good last year in the classics, and in the vuelta he's shown his potential again. this could be the year for him to win a race like Het Volk (it wont change that easily Pfft for me ) And I'm curiou about Maaskant. last year he had only really shown in paris - roubaix as fa as I can remember. maybe he can do something in the 'smaller' classics. Adn Terpsta? Breschel? Burghart again?

Langeveld will become better then both, maybe not this year, but surely next years.
Oh well.

Watch Maaskant this weekend.

This doesn't work for me, but maybe because the stream starts later.
