I've decided to start a story with the British registered Continental Tour team Candi TV - Pinarello RT.
The squad for 2009 is pretty good, Russel Downing and James Sampson will be the leaders this year.
James Sampson:
A great talent that's got a great speed in last kilometres of the stages but he can also climb up some smaller hills with a pretty good speed. James handles the TTs very well and he's going to be a big part of our team this season.
Russel Downing:
Probably the best cyclist in the team, he will be very useful in the sprints and in the hills, Russel is a great all-rounder. His aim this year will be Robert Price Grand Prix and the British Championships.
Our goals is achieveable, it will be hard to take a top 5 in Ireland but hopefully at least 3 out of 5 goals will be accomplished.
We also got some great news early in January, Pinarello is welcome down under to participate in Tour down Under!

When we got the wildcard to TdU, we decided to skip Tour of Wellington and just go for the experience here in Australia. It will be great for the team to compete against the best.
Tour down Under
Stage 1
Team: R.Downing, J.Sampson, D.Appleby, P.Williams, M.Rowe and G.Briggs.
Russel just before the start.
The race started with an early attack by Roy Sentjens (Silence), Matt Rowe tried to follow him.
But Rowe would be caught, instead Sentjens creatad a breakaway group consisting of 7 riders, Irizar, DurĂ¡n, Konovalovas, Sentjens, Fedrigo, Dmitriev and Erviti.
Then James decided to try to catch the break in front.
But that resulted into nothing. The breakaway group didn't work together so they got caught too. Instead Matthew Hayman broke away and went on a solo ride.
He stayed away for a while, but not long enough. When it was time for the sprint, Downing settled on Hausslers wheel.
But what is that? It's a CRASH! 18 riders goes down, but Downing is not one of them!
This gives Downing a great opportunity, he is in great position just before the sprint.
The sprint starts and Downing changes to Hammonds wheel, who is in the lead. With 1km to go, Hammond leads with O'Grady coming really fast on the right side while Downing is sprinting on the left.
Stuart O'Grady wins the first stage of Tour down Under 2009!
Hammond takes 2nd, or? NO, it's another brit and it's Russel Downing! What a race from Russel!

Tour down Under
Stage 2
Todays stage is pretty hilly, Downing will try to do something in the sprint while we are going to send Matt Rowe in the early break.
Downing were still chocked after yesterdays 2nd place, and today he will wear the points jersey which is just perfect for the team.
As planned Matt Rowe attacked early on, and nobody went with him.
After a while the second attack came and then a whole bunch joined the attack.
But that attack wouldn't catch Rowe and after a few km they got caught by the peleton.
So a new wave of attacks came.
This time they just rode right past Rowe who couldn't hang on. So Matts adventure was over for today.
The attackers couldn't create a working group so also they got caught by the pack. But finally we got a break by Van Emden, Rast and Pollock.
As expected they got caught and the sprint was up next. Downing was stuck when the sprint started and it didn't look to good.
But when the 1km mark came, Russel was with the big guns in the front.
This time Russel couldn't finish at the podium but he still did an amazing sprint ending up 4th! Stuart O'Grady grabbed his second win in a row.

Tour down Under
Stage 3
As usual a break got away pretty early in the race, but hey were no threat.
In the sprint Downing decided to pick Bennatis wheel, and that was a great choice. Murilo Fischer just rode Bennati to the front and now Downing has got a great gap before the sprint.
The other sprinters couldn't close the gap so with just a km to go, Bennati was still in the lead with Downing just after.
And the Italian superstar wins todays stage! Downing ends 2nd while Davide Vigano (Fuji-Servetto) takes 3rd ahead of Cavendish and O'Grady.
Russel is now 2nd in the GC, just 4 seconds behind the leader O'Grady.
GC:
This is crazy results but I can promise you that this is on hard, I don't know what's happening. I'm sorry (?) for the great results, this is not realistic..

it's early and none of the big names are at full fitness. it's a shame it's a pro-tour event so you won't get any continental points for it
