This is my first attempt at a story and the "lucky" winners of my "skills" are ELK Haus. I'll start it off at Normal difficulty, since i haven't been playing this game for very long. If it turns out to be too easy i'll increase the difficulty as i go. I'm using the Plus DB.
EDIT: From Langkawi Stage 7 and onwards, it's on hard.
The team is, as i'm sure most of you know, mostly austrian, and to keep to a certain degree of realism i will try to recruit mostly from that region. By that i meen austrian, swiss and german riders. I won't be pushing hard for promotion, but try to get good results in individual races.
The goals for my first season are:
To achieve this i have added 5 riders to my starting squad. The two biggest talents are:
So the complete squad for the 2008 season will be:
The first race of the season is the Tour Down Under. I will be sending a fairly unfit team of youngsters mainly to gain some experience and to gain some fitness towards the first proper races of the season.
The riders for TDU will be:
J. Summer
H. Starzengruber
S. Radochla
S. Schäfer
R. Lauscha
S. Dillier
B. Thurau
D. Schorn
I will be simulating a few of the stages due to a technical issue, but ill give a report with the endresults.

Ok, I tried to export the results from the last stage of TDU but it seems im lacking a decent program to extract the info from the XML file. Any tips? Tried a few freeware progs and firefox, but the cant seem to present it in an easy format for me to copy/paste.

As mentioned i simmed the TDU. My team is split into early and mid-season fitness training and the TDU was mainly to gain fitness. My 8 riders came out with 75-81 in fitness which should be good for the upcoming races.
It also seems that my riders perform well when i dont controll them, as the results from the last stage of the TDU shows:

Le Tour de Langkawi
Most stages of this race are fairly flat, with the exception of stage 8, which ends in a mountain. My best climbers are all set to peak alot later to be ready for my main goal races, so i'll send a few of my younger riders, backed by two good sprinter. I also have 2 races planned during Langkawi, so i'm also saving a few decent riders for those.
The team for Langkawi:
Leader Jochen Summer
Sprinter Stefan Radochla
Both sprinter with poor hill and mountain stats. They will go for mass-sprint finishes, but the mountain stage will ruin their chances in the GC.
Free riders
Daniel Schorn
Jan Valach
Both decent/good climbing skills and a fighting spirit. They will be going for breaks.
Team mates
Matthias Brändle
Stefan Rucker
Simon Schärer
Pure support and lead-out riders for my sprinters
Stage 1:
A mostly flat stage with some bumps at the end. Might cause some problems for my main sprinters so i'm hoping to keep any breaks on a tight leash.
The stage started out fairly slow, with no attacks the first 40 km. So as we closed on the first sprint i sent Jan Valach forward.
What i'd fail to notice was the weather. An immense head-wind made it tough for the break, and Jan soon struggled to keep up.
The pack kept good controll on the break, so i could keep my riders out of the wind. As we approached the climb, they started pulling back the escapees. As feared alot GC contenders started attacking up the hills. Jan was swallowed by the pack and soon spat out at the back as the attacks kept coming.
As the pack came to the final bump before the sprint, Soler attacked and there was nothing i could do. Stefan Rucker gave an excellent lead-out for Jochen Summer and he was able to claw back the 20 second lead Soler had in the final km. Unfortunatly the stage was 200 meters too short for Jochen to take it and he had to settle for 3rd.
All in all i'm pretty satisfied with the result, considering Jochen's very bad hill/mountain skills. Jan on the other hands was devasted by his poor result.

Stage 2
A completly flat stage which should favor our strong sprinters. The plan is to keep all my riders in the peleton to help reel in any breaks if needed.
The stage started fairly slow, with no attacks untill after the first sprint. Eventually a group of four riders took off.
They stayed away for most of the stage, untill the peleton started pulling them back. A few optimistic riders tried to attack as Barloworld pushed hard. Having been fooled by the weather yesterday, we stuck our finger out the window of the team car and discovered it was quite windy today as well. This caused the peleton to strech.
The break was caught with 20 km to go and we lined up our team for what would hopefully be a strong sprint train.
The peleton seemed unaware for a split second and the sprint train suddenly found themselves with a 50 meter gap! Unfortunatly a cheeky bastard named Marinangeli from LPR had pushed Jochen Summer off the train. He tried to attack to regain his position.
It wasnt to be. The wind quickly drained him and we were left with Stefan Radochla up front with Marinangeli on his wheel. It could only end in dissapointment.
Second place isnt too bad really, but with such a mediocre field, and my sprinters having over 80 in form i was really hoping for a win.

The plan was to start this with the 09 DB, but i tried 3 times and got shot down by bugs every time. So an old but working DB will have to do
And if u read the the second sentence in the entire thread you would know that im currently on normal
With the good results so far i am considering ramping this up, but im gonna give myself a few weeks. As i said, im fairly new to the game.

Stage 3
Another flat stage for my sprinters. Today's plan is to send Jan on the attack again. I doubt a break will stay away till the end, but this will make LPR work to bring it back, and it will deny the entire peleton from sprinting for the intermediate sprints. So after 10 km Jan got the go ahead.
8 riders soon formed a break and pulled away. With alot less wind and an intense heat they were allowed almost 9 minutes before LPR and Acqua e Sapone started pulling them back. The LPR riders were doing most of the work, which suited me fine. Consider it a small "thank you" for the sprint theft yesterday. LPR's ukrainian champion Ruslan Pidgornyy worked hard and in the end was dropped from the pack and ended up +4'24"
As the pack got closer the escapees started attacking each other, and Jan proved the strongest after not having helped too much. He got away from the rest but with 20km to go he got swallowed by the pack. He did manage to hang on though for the rest of the stage.
I set up my sprint train again, and what guess what. A certain Marinangeli was there again, and he pushed Summer off again! LPR is quickly turning into my least favorite opponent. It also seems that Summer isnt strong enough to stay on the wheel of the rest of the train. Several other teams were out in force today, so Radochla jumped on Pollack's train from Volksbank. Marinangeli was still stuck on the leftover of my train wasnt able pull back. But again i missed my chance at the line, with another italian exploding past on the last 500 meter.
What i didnt notice was the rest of the peleton hadnt followed Volksbank's fierce lead-out and were dropped. That ment that all the climbing GC favorites, including Soler picked up +1'18"! An excellent result for me. If only one my sprinters can avoid loosing too much time on stage 8, a top 10 GC result might just be possible. Daniel Schorn also finished with the sprinters and this will improve his chance for a good overall finish, with his superior climbing skills (superior only when compared to my sprinters ).

Stage 4
Again, a flat stage, and the ingame commentary is spot on with it's remarks about monotonous stages. Jan Valach will stay with the peleton today to rest his legs. As expected the attacks start soon after we start rolling. A 5 man group is the break of the day.
It's another hot day, and Jan drops back to get some water when disaster strikes. The road turns into the wind and he's dropped along with several other "waterboys". After some frantic work to try to regain the peleton he decides to sit up. This clearly wasnt his race, and his decent hill skills will come in handy on the single day race coming up.
The peleton starts reeling in the escapees and with 20 km it's looking like a mass-sprint again. Radochla is feeling very strong today, and with Summer being unable to hold his wheel the last two days, i change my tactic. Summer leads out for Radochla and what a lead-out. They get a 20 meter lead, and with a powerfull sprint Radochla wins with a +22" margin to Summer and the rest.
Finally my first victory! Radochla takes both the green and yellow jersey!

(It's going maybe a tad too well atm, but i'll finish Langkawi on Normal. I have a one-day race and a 3-day stage race coming up as well, and if i continue to dominate i'll turn it up to hard. It's worth mentioning that my riders in Langkawi are 85 in form and Radochla has had minimum +1 every day, with +4 today. It might just be the good form, and not my skill (since i dont have any )) |

I think it's a combination of good form and the wind. Usually i cant get my lead-outs to work at all.
What i usually do is have my fighters go full out with a man protecting. As soon as the lead man's red bar is empty, the next one takes over, then the next etc.
