Hi guys as you can guess from the title im a complete noob to pcm and cycling so I have a few questions I was hoping you could help me with.
1.In the game riders have specialised abilities e.g stage races, sprinter etc, although I can guess what some of them mean I was wondering if you could give me a brief explanation as to what a puncheur, northern classics and fighter are?
2.On the Eurosport coverage of The Tour De France the commentaters keep mentioning a "GC" and I was wondering what it means?
3.In the game im playing as Barloworld (I liked what I saw of Robbie Hunter in the Tour) and ive managed to get a wild-card to a number of CTT races but I was wondering if my riders or team get points towards the CNT by participating in these races? And if I dont get points in them then what is the point competing in them?
4.I was wondering how the points system works?Ive won a few stages and two races but im not sure exactly how many points I get for race wins, stage wins etc? Also do you get any points for winning the mountain jersey and again if not then whats the point of trying to get it?
Thanks in advance for any help guys and I hope my my questions make sense |

1. Northern Classics means a rider who is good in cobble races
2. GC means General Classification - basically, throughout the tour, the riders times are added up each day, and the person with the shortest time wins - its the yellow jersey classification
Not sure about the rest

fighter: breakaway specialist. a guy with a high FTR stat will make the whole group he is in go slightly faster when taking a relay, will attack more often and will recover faster from a "red moment" (blowing up)
puncheur: a climber with a bit of "punch", good on short, explosive climbs, usually at the classic races. hilly stages, not mountainous. for a fabulous example, look at the stats of a certain Paolo Bettini
northern classics: classics with cobbled sections. these sections are very demanding and riders are very specialized: you'll notice riders have a "cobble" stat, meaning the higher the stat, the less energy they lose going over cobbles (which is still a lot though...)
generally, cobbled races are mostly in Belgium and matter most to Belgian teams.

General Classification. the overall timed classification of a stage race.

no points, but it's fun and the sponsors love it. also, riders at certain experience levels get experience and improve.
riders, if you'll notice have a certain experience bar and level (goes from 1 to 4)
a full experience bar makes them finish that level, and jump to the next (except if the finish level 4)
finishing a level may increase his stats quite a bit. also, every rider has ONE "explosion" in his career.(some already start the game being considered to have already "exploded", so that won't happen to them anymore.) when this happens (at the end of a random level of experience), he really comes into his own with big stats rises.
what races raise a rider's experience are:
level 1: category 1 races (2.1 and 1.1)
level 2: Hors category races (2.HC and 1.HC)
level 3: ProTour events (CTT in the game), except
level 4: Grand Tours (Giro d'Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a España) and the 5 Monuments (Milano-San Remo, Ronde van Vlaanderen, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Giro di Lombardia)
notice that if you have the original database that comes with the game, these names will be different since they can't use the real ones for the most part
example: GP di Lombardia (I'm making this one up) instead of Giro di Lombardia

do you mean points for the continental and ProTour (CTT in the game, since they can't use the real name) rankings?
if so:

Me too, never seen a Pro cycling event before 2007TDF. I have seen the occassional Olympic cycling event in parts but never had any interest in it until PCM2007 sucked me in.

Northern Classics=Cobblestones
Fighter = agressiveness effectiveness. page 16 of the PCM2007 manual which is pretty poor may help, section 6.1.2.
PCM2006 manual which i'm sure I found here but can't find anymore had a bit more insight into the training reigime's and how they affected riders stats. Not sure how applicable that might be to the 2007 version of the game though.

General Classification, if you take a rider in a race and add up their times for each stage in the race, the person who has the least total time wins the race. I've discovered that in a stage race - the mountains and time trials stages tend to spread the leaderboard out quite a bit as to where everyone ranks.

Me Too, also playing Barloworld. Struggling to do well in my 2008 season though - competition has lifted.
The prize money and prestige associated with the race. For Barloworld in say TDF, sponsors are pretty happy even when someone in the team ends up in the top 20 at the end of the race. I've set my game to easy though.

I don't know the complete answer but prestige and money are one benefit and if you hang on to it for more than one day, sponsors like it even more, presumably it does the opposite for the competition.

Happy to help a fellow newbie to PCM and the sport whi happens to have started learning with the help of Team Barloworld.
I found South Africas news 24 to be pretty informative about the Team and Robbie Hunter in the TDF, far more than the Barloworld team site.

Another quick question that im sure has been asked a zillion times, does the equipment make a big difference to performance i.e I have a Flat setup bike (F-52,M-32),a Mountain setup bike (F-32,M-52) and a good all-round setup bike (F-42,M-40)?
I only ask because a mate told me that the percentage bonus it adds is little or none!!

The equipment's effect is very small and doesnt make too much of a distance.

i have to dissagree i think that the diference of taking bikes for flat to mountains instead of bikes made for climbers made a big difference of final time at the end of the stage |

Yes. You can see that in the 'bike-overview' at the beginning of a race. The 'normal' bicycles (or should I say: 'standard', which are default settings, already have a little bit over 20 'points', where the best bike (by custom configuration) kan be over 50 points... The difference is only a mere 30 points...

Ok guys yet more help is needed please
I need serious help with fitness training.I left the fitness training of my CSC team to the A.I.
All was going well Cancellara,Schleck Sastre etc all were above 90 fitness but their fatigue levels started growing so I did what the manual said and set their training to o% to give them a rest but now a week before the Giro their fitness levels are below 50%.
What have I done wrong?
Is there a guide or walkthrough to describe how to train players?
Any help as always is greatly appreciated |

I think it does, but you don't need to read the entire guide. It starts off with explaining the basics before going into depth, and for normal people, the basics are enough |

Off topic!
I have big problems with getting away from the pack in the mountains , I`ve tried with riders like Vino Kloden and Valverde , and I have never gotten away evene if there is guy with 76 in MO doing a relay in the peleton. So it always comes to a bunch sprint. I know others have had the same problem , so just wonder if the problem is supposed to be solved`?

what was the form like of the riders you tried with?, if it was crap then thats the reason.
If it was ok then the 76MO guys form might have been aweseme,
What difficulty do you play on, aswell?
