Gisborne GP (C2)
Hello everybody and welcome to the start of the season for the CT division! 16 CT and 3 PCT teams at the start of the CT opener here in New Zealand. Last year's winner Pacher has come back for more glory, and the same can be said for 2022 victor Boswell. Let's have a look at the favourites and leaders.
| Mtn | Hill | Sta | Res | Spr | Acc | Moscon | 73 | 80 | 76 | 77 | 60 | 73 | Waeytens | 70 | 79 | 70 | 68 | 65 | 71 | Boswell | 70 | 79 | 76 | 72 | 64 | 75 | Jensen | 69 | 79 | 76 | 72 | 65 | 75 | Bystrom | 68 | 79 | 75 | 72 | 68 | 76 | Beltran | 76 | 78 | 68 | 67 | 63 | 71 | Budyak | 74 | 78 | 72 | 67 | 57 | 68 | Koretzky | 68 | 78 | 72 | 65 | 68 | 74 | Watson | 65 | 78 | 76 | 72 | 62 | 72 | Morin | 65 | 78 | 75 | 73 | 69 | 76 | Raileanu | 77 | 77 | 74 | 73 | 59 | 70 | Guerreiro | 76 | 77 | 73 | 73 | 72 | 72 | Lyu | 75 | 77 | 75 | 76 | 63 | 74 | Lafay | 75 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 63 | 74 | Mager | 74 | 77 | 68 | 70 | 60 | 71 | Zordan | 73 | 77 | 72 | 72 | 65 | 74 | Serrano | 72 | 77 | 73 | 75 | 68 | 77 | Bratashcuk | 71 | 77 | 75 | 70 | 62 | 67 | Izagirre | 70 | 77 | 67 | 66 | 56 | 58 | Quevedo | 70 | 77 | 70 | 70 | 64 | 73 | Skjerping | 70 | 77 | 71 | 67 | 58 | 65 | Carr | 70 | 77 | 74 | 71 | 59 | 72 | Nikiema | 70 | 77 | 72 | 74 | 70 | 76 | Lopez | 78 | 76 | 71 | 72 | 60 | 78 | Seibeb | 75 | 76 | 70 | 69 | 61 | 73 |
Cervelo Test Team clearly has ambitions. Purely looking at the hill stat, they have two riders topping the list here. Apart from Moscon they also should have some good domestiques or even shadow leaders in Waeytens, Watson, Zordan and Izagirre.
Apart from his hill stat Moscon also seems to have the upper hand on the other 79 puncheurs. Former winner Boswell, Jensen and Bystrom are simply not as strong when it comes to climbing and their physical capacities. The difference with Moscon isn't too big either of course. If they manage to stay together until the finish line, all three of them have a better final kick than the Italian from Cervelo though
Beltran for Spark and Budyak for Popo as the first PCT rider on the list are some of the better hybrids at the start. Age is coming up to the Colombian, but he and his manager Jakstar hope to see him fight for results in classics for one more season. Except for his okay mountain stat, Budyak is not really the strongest rider of the bunch when looking at the other stats. Koretzky is the next 34 year old rider on the list, as the Frenchman has the task to make Gjensidige forget about Eiking. Not an easy task. Next Frenchman on the list is Morin who is here to defend the honour of Hilcona Racing Team. Not a great climber, but decent final kick.
Up next is a list of 77 puncheurs, but where several of them are better hybrids than the top puncheurs here. Raileanu hopes to shine for his new team Babymetal, but the same can be said for Guerreiro. The Portuguese can climb and also has a decent sprint. The perfect combo to make Team Würth MODYF victorious tomorrow?
Lyu wants to make new team Duvel - Tsingtao happy they chose a Chinese sponsor, whereas the previewer decides to not even put last year's winner Pacher on the favourite list, but we can see him doing well as well. Serrano is here for Euskadi - Murias. Nikiema is another rider who has a nice finish in his legs, whereas Lopez and Seibeb are two other hybrids to keep an eye on.
Good luck to everyone tomorrow, may the best man win!

Very excited to get up in the middle of the night to watch our CT debut
Hoping Bystrom's superior finishing ability can come to the fore here but realistically the race might be a bit too hard for him to stay with the likes of Moscon until the finish line. He's got all his main supporting cast alongside him, and it looks like all the division's big puncheurs are there too, so this should be a good bellwether for what we can expect for the rest of the season.

Time to see if Lopez can hang with the true puncheurs.
Let the season begin!

Pft, get outta here. Strong competition!
This will be Cervelo's race to lose.
I hope Nikiema can sneak in the top-10.

Maybe on Sunday only.
Previews are coming today, opening reports on Sunday!
Was a bit shocked to not see former rider and actually winner Bennett at the start, now riding for a home NZ team in the CT division.
Understandably with Beltran leading, still a bit of a pity story wise in his likely last winner season.
The Moscon/Waeytens duo will be interesting. You normally would expect the win by first in that field and this support, but there are simply too many almost equal riders here. So quite a wide open event. |

At least it will be nice to see if this works early on in the season instead of hoping for a long period of time before!
From what happened last year and a small bunch finish I'll go for Guerriero to win just hoping to see a few riders in the top 20 if it's only one this may not work for the season |

Going to be really fun to see how Koretzky will do in a declined state at the CT level and also to see if the Cervelo duo threat can make it work or if they keep carrying the ghosts of Lierse's past with them, thanks for the preview!

Oh wow, can't wait! Thanks to Nemolito for the preview. Here's to hoping that the first opportunity for Lyu to demonstrate his ability in mountains, hills, stamina and resistance goes well!
I'd love to see Hermans do well with his acceleration for some depth scoring, if it turns into a slightly more puncheur-favoured race.

I'm going to throw a hailmary and say Guerreiro takes the win here. I just think that it will be a 10-12 rider group that crests the final hill and has to sprint the small plateau. I just like the combo of hill/mo/sprint that should do a ton for him here.
Fascinated by how the Cervelo super strong squad works together.

Let's see how useless or maybe valuable Budyak will be in those C2 hilly races! Could be much needed extra points

I think this is a good call. Not sure it is a hail mary. Question is whether his SP/AC combo is good enough to get him some positioning.

Also great depth from Euskotren finishing with three in the top 10.

Not the winner I expected, but congrats to Quint and Booker with the great start to the season
Nikiema in 12th is decent, but we're going to need some overperformances in the hills to stay in promotion contention.

New teams aren't messing around I see. Was expecting more out of Lopez tbh but I guess the inclines weren't to his liking. Nice to see Abreu getting into the morning BOTD. He still holds our team record for most breakaways in a single season with 11 back in 2016 with Movistar-US Postal. So something to keep an eye on moving forward if he is gunning to beat his own mark.
Thanks for the report!
