[PCT '24] August Preview/Sony - Force India

Kon'nichiwa Smile

We're back for the new season, but everything remains the same at our HQ! Last season proved to be a record breaking one for us but we still just fell short of promotion. Despite this, we were extremely pleased to be able to firmly establish our new identity, and to be able to improve on the 2022 season. We will be looking to continue on our improvement path but we do see some big hurdles this season in terms of team building which we will need to tackle effectively.

Primary Sponsor
i.imgur.com/jrXfIRN.png

Sony continues their title sponsorship of the team for the second season. We were able to meet most of their demands for the first season, which made it a no brainer for them to continue. The team that the popularity of the company in the owner's home country will continue to help promote the sport there.
Secondary Sponsor
i.imgur.com/q6p5yoS.png

Having just extended their contract last year, Force India remains the teams secondary sponsor. Last season proved to be a milestone for India as the first two cyclists from the nation got professional contracts to be a part of our team. We hope to be able spot a few more similar talents this time around as well.
Other Sponsors
No sponsor changes for us this time, as we would like to keep the working combination to continue.
Banking and Insurance Partner ABN Amro
Automobile Partners Toyota (Cars) and VDL (Buses)
Equipment Fuji (Frames), SRAM (Groupsets), Shimano (Wheels), Continental (Tyres) and Kask (Helmets)
Jersey Reebok

Primary Focus: Japan

Japan remains our primary, being the country of our primary sponsors. We will continue to seek out established riders and talents from across Asia, as we build our team identity on the continent.
Secondary Focus: Netherlands

Our crop of Dutch talents are coming to end of their development and we are very excited to see them compete with the best of the best. Netherlands thus remains our secondary sponsor, with a strong core team already in place for this purpose.

We would like to thank Ezeefreak for conceptualizing and creating this wonderful new jersey.

Very strong squad to build off of (not sure how much cap space there will be but I'm sure there's ways to make some more), whether it's getting into that Top 5 or preparing for 2025 with some more maxes and a €3m Benoot sale to De Rosa once they get some money Pfft

Always one of the best HQs around, looking forward to following it again Grin
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

@jandal: I guess the existing squad is decent but we do need to look at a rebuild with about half of them tending towards decline or have already started to. Will think about the Benoot sale only when the time comes Wink

Thanks for the appreciation!

We thought it was time to look back at our team history a little, before we look ahead to the 2024 season. In this post, we've tried to gather some stats on how the riders that have worn our colours have done for us in our seven years of existence.

Kelderman is still our most successful rider, by far, with Choi and Benoot slowing moving up the standings this season. Look out for Keinath lower in the table, as he had an enviable podium record in the single season that he rode for us!

Speaking of Keinath's podiums, it will take something really special from one our riders to be able to beat the German's record anytime soon! Vesely, Choi and Benoot are all part of the Top 10, but even they do not look to be able better this record, given their recent track record.

We also went back-to-back on an own rider winning U25 rider of the year after five seasons of loan-ins taking that award. The unique Viana do Castelo gets added to our Race of the Year history books.

Yes yes yes love a good team history post! Your top guys of course so spread out with Wilco still at the top, for better or worse Pfft Would be curious when you look back on the many leaders you've had how they stack up compared to each other. The stage racers all had their time in the sun (as shown by getting different awards), while Benoot is building a strong case. Kelderman is inextricably linked to the team and did have some good memories of course. And Wyss and Per are just such great names from the early days.

But due to the seasons they had those leaders are all names I associate with your team, probably Rui Costa the one that surprised me a bit to see after all these years among those Top 13, who are all nailed on as scorers for you in my mind.

Similar in the RDs being very spread out, but it certainly feels like you are building a few guys who will be going towards a few hundred soon enough - Leemreize and Kooistra making their cases already and hope they stick around for a while yet with many years left in their tanks - Leemreize only just getting started and should make his way into many of the Top 10s over his career hopefully!

Agree with jandal, really great to have all those all-time stats Grin
Impressive how Kelderman is just undethronable in some categories - at least for now. Benoot should eventually take over most of them, but still impressive that Kelderman - despite his really bad reputation - actually wasn't all that awful. I personally consider riders costing less than 1000k per point as "good deals", so even though Wilco surely was often frustrating to follow, he did actually fairly OK.

Your Dutch focus definitely shows in these lists, even though Benoot is the exception to the rule. Will be interesting to see if you can eventually shift your focus more to Asia, but it will likely take some more years. Good for you that new Asian teams are popping up Wink

Always love these posts, even if they make me feel bad for not updating mine for a couple years now.

Kelderman is still the boss but it shouldnt take much longer in some categories until he gets dethroned.

Listing Boev as 0 wage triggers me. Imo that should still be 50k as a fulltime rider even if the MGUCI paid his wage.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

@jandal: With my way of rebuilding the team almost every year, the journey to the top isn't easy for any leader. No wonder it's hard for anyone to catch Wilco so far! We've always had some good stage racers to go with the two 'top' punchers in our history (goes to show how I like to build teams I guess). Per and Wyss were among those who helped set up our identity, but I'd like to add Keinath to the list of cult heroes, at least for the team management. Rui Costa had that one season with us when we couldn't get our top priority punchers after promoting to PCT the first time. He did fine without being spectacular. I think it is just now that we have a solid group of talents going towards max, who will most likely stay in the team for the long term and start dominating the Loyalty and RD tables in a few years' time. Hopefully Leemreize and Kooistra can lead the way for all of them well.

@Fabianski: Kelderman was great in PCM 18, was so-so in PCM 20 and is now almost a dud in PCM 22. We got him in the first two versions, and he did do well for two of the three seasons with us, although he clearly could've done better, given his stats! Not sure how soon you can expect Asian names to be up on these leaderboards because there are only a handful of Asian stars in the game, and most are already well settled in older Asian focused teams. Choi has done a fine job in his two seasons with us. Hopefully, we can have our own bigger batch soon.

@knockout: Target is to remove Kelderman from these lists as soon as possible! Hey, as I didn't spend a dime on Boev, he will remain as a 'Free' rider in our history books Pfft

@redordead: I hope our team leaders are listening!

What a team, what a manager, what a nice historical overview.

It's clear that Kelderman is not only one of Adler's and mine best riders ever, but he was also your true light in the darkness.

Ever since I started loaning out youngsters to you, loaned in riders no longer won that award. Good way to realize my talents are not so strong Pfft

@Nemolito: I think you're exaggerating with compliments for me and the team, and even more so with those about Wilco Pfft

I'd take back last season's loan in again though!

It is time to share with the world how our rider contract discussions turned out this off-season.

Victor Alejandro Ocampo50,000 €0 €-50,000 €
2,500,000 €2,385,000 €-115,000 €

We let go of just one rider this off-season. Choon Huat Goh had another year of decline and we did not feel he would be able contribute to us any longer.

Victor Alejandro Ocampo returns to his parent team Oxxo-Frisby, hopefully at a much better place than when he got to us.

Among the retained riders, Benoot receives another small increment with training last season. Choi's takes a significant drop having started his decline. Vesely's great season sees him rewarded with a hike. Among the midfield, Leemreize and Mick Van Dijke get significant increases after levelling up, while Kozhatayev and Ringheim take cuts, with the latter's decline abetting to the same. Hayter is the other significant reduction, coming down from his inflated FA wage last season. Hoole and John return from loan and add a fair bit onto our wage bill.

Overall, we have to say this wasn't the greatest renewals that we have done, as we were expecting to be able save some more wage cap before transfers. However, this was not a disaster either, and we still have a decent platform to build from.

Stay tuned for the availability post coming soon...

Just goes to show that our teams have always had trade activity in transfers and I'll be open to hearing from you once again this time Smile

As you say a bit of a tough renewals, luckily no disaster. Still, once that availability post comes up you might be able to make a bit more, especially as you're not currently left wanting to reach the rider minimum Grin Interested to see who's on the transfer block...

@jandal: The middle of the pack sort of creeped up on me but we weren't too far of our initial wage target, so it's fine I guess. Think most of the riders set to be made available are obvious Wink

Ulrich Ulriksen
Well that looks like a fully formed team, you could sleep through transfers and still have a very solid season.

410 for Benoot seems like a great deal and Hayter was a steal last year.

I am sure we will talk, not sure we have very done a transaction, so maybe this is the year.

Hope the move went well.
