Season 2008
Rider: Salvatore Coppi
Team: Acqua e Sapone - Caffè Mokambo
Goals: Hopes to develop into a rider just as good as the one he is named after.
Results:
February:
Coppa Costa degli Etruschi - 10th
Pleased with 10th here as doesn't see himself as a sprinter and this one was almost pan flt.
Trofeo Laigueglia - 5th
An encouraging result. Looked to have the legs on the climbs, but sprinting lets him down again.
Tour du Haut Var - 6th
Another Top 10 finish on the kind of terrain he likes. Even felt good enough to have the Acqua and Sapone team move up and do the chasing.
End of Month Ranking - 9th
Comment from Coppi
"If my name wasn't Coppi, I'd probably be pleased finishing the month in 9th."
March:
Omloop Het Volk - ?
The rain, the cold and the cobbles. We spoke on the phone, and Coppi was in such a state that he couldn't even tell me if he finished.

With rumours flying around of a super drug, questions are being asked of the RDG former. CEO of the company running the race series assured all companies involved in cycling that they were very much on the case of drug takers.
"Arm in arm with the old cycling federations, such as the UCI, ASO and so on, we have further developed their passport system. Any riders whom we feel are a cause for concern can be looked at. So far, on the surface, this new drug (rumoured to be a 4th generation form of EPO, nicknamed H.E.P.O), blends in perfectly with the body. All that is needed is one small extract of an individuals own supply of EPO for the drugs companies to be able to produce a years supply of EPO for that individual. So in terms of medical advancement, it's very helpful. For fighting the drugs war, it's less helpful. The beauty of the drug is that it blends in so well with the body. There is no artifical markings of the past, but rather it looks like the rider will just have come off a high-altitude training camp. Or just have used a hypoxic chamber to train in for a week. Worryingly, rather than the effects just lasting 2 weeks, as is often the case with high altitude training or regular EPO use, this drug lasts the whole month.
By next year, the drug we fear, will be in wide-spread use, and so we have to aim by February to have a top notch test for it."
What will this new drug result in? Break down of sponsorship before the next season? Or will sponsorships stay around to see the effects of the drugs on the peloton?

With the racing for February done, the Norwegian rider Christer Terjesen, who rides for Rock Racing, looks back at the races he participated in.
In Coppa Costa degli Etruschi, I couldn't do much at the beginning, because I'm lazy. And because my team-mate Tyler Hamilton. I think he might be an anti-social person, since he spent most of the race in a break alone. When the peloton caught up with Tyler, Garmin put up the pace, and I got warm and got rid of my lazyness. And since I felt warm, I decided to join Michael Brown, Euan Innes and a Danish dude. Christian Jensen, I think. Not sure... Anyways, I didn't manage to get the win. That may be because I didn't want to win from the beginning, or because I'm lazy and I got cold when I wasn't with the peloton. I don't know. But I did manage a third place. And I manage to complete my goal for the day. That was a top 100. My team manager gave me a cake after the race. The cake tasted good.
In Trofeo Laigueglia, my goal was to finish at top 100. This race wasn't something for me. But I did my best, and have no regrets about participating. Since I didn't do a single thing, although I tried, this race isn't worth so much of a report. But my team manager was pretty upset, since I didn't show up at any pictures at all, I didn't even show up on the tv-cameras.... But I did finish in a 36th place, so he said it was allright and gave me a cookie.
The last race for me this month was Tour du Haut Var. This wasn't a race for me, since I'm not good upwards. My team-manager told my to try and be vicible without attacking. I didn't manage to do that, but I did manage to complete my goal for the race. I did it again! Another top 100! I'm, like, very good, or something. Anyways, since I didn't appear on pictures or TV, my team manager was quite irritated. Also this time I got a cookie for my surprisingly high place on the result list. I managed to scrape up a 24th place. That's even on the upper half of the results! The cookie tasted better than the last time, but I'm starting to get suspicious on those cookies.
While my team manager thinks I underperformed, I am the 8th best rider for february, measured in points. Therefore: Two more cookies for me!
See you next month, if I'm not too lazy,
Christer Terjesen.
In other news: Bananas are yellow!
Edit: Some typos...

Quickstep Press Release
Feburary has been a sucess ful month for quickstep. In the opening race of the season Michael Brown put in a brilliantly timed attack and then sprinted away from the people following to take a composed victory. Although the next 2 races were hilly and not our specialty Michael again showed his knack for timing his attack to get to the finish 11th and strengthen his chance of regaining the pro tour next month in races which should suit him perfectly

Another bloody second:
Oomloop het Volk was a race for the neutral: Attacks, action and most importantly, crashes. As i took the final corner I put everything into it. C. Jensen had about 50 metres on us, and I wanted a victory. But no cigar. When I saw him raise his arms I went even harder, seeing that he had a way to go, but I had left it too late. Second again. |

Where did C. Terjesen go?
Team manager of Rock Racing is in despair. During the race Oomloop het Volk, Christer Terjesen mysteriously disappaered. Rock Racing manager says that the Norwegian cyclist has to show up in the team meeting in three days, or get a fine.
Hopefully, Terjesen reads this, and appears again.

Rock Racing team manager on hospital
The Rock Racing team manager is brought to a hospital. He is suffering from a heart attack, or mayor shock. The doctors aren't sure. But the cause is the win from Christer Terjesen in the Dwars dor Vlaanderen. The Norwegian managed to sprint to victory. Every Rock Racing-fans is stunned.
"I'm going to rate him 85 in cobblestones and in sprints on my PCM08 game now," says an enthusistic fan.

Patrick Hughes speaks out:
Damn you Terjesen! I would of won it if it weren't for you meddling kid! Also I wish to take the belgian government to court for that pot-hole. Terjesen obviously bribed the road makers. |

RDG Responds to current hostility -
RDG bos Rich Cleaver said this about the recent anger in the pro peleton.
"I cant explain why Patrick Hughes crashes in the latest race it was down to the race organisers to make sure the route was perfectly safe. The last 300 meters were perfectly safe, it was just a poor sprint by Hughes. "
PCM Monthly responds in support of Hughes
"It was extremely unfortunate where Hughes took his line. He found and extremely large pot hot in the ground and this is were Hughes went down. We are with Hughes on the situation of getting the race organisers to step up their game however we do not support him on his accusations that it was another rider. It may just be friend banter but Rock Racing DS responded angrily in hospital about Hughes anger when he was riding to his hotel. Saying that Hughes did not deserve his spot on CSC"
Matt Booth responds to Rock Racings comments, everyone wanted a word with level headed Booth but it was difficult to hear as he was just coming out of the bus and getting on his bike heading for the hotel.
"I don't want to comment too much on the situation, but Accusations that Hughes doesn't deserve a spot is completely... I support ..SC but... fair to be treated this.... [badly]... Please let me ride to the hotel now."
Booth was knocked from his bike while riding to his hotel and was helped up by C.Jensen, Jensen angrily fought off reporters and this could mean an angry start next race. |

An update on the Rock Racing team manager,
The doctors have concluded that the Rock Racing DS doesn't suffer from a heart attack. It is just a reaction to the win from his rider, Christer Terjesen. The DS is in fine condition and will be ready for the next race.
Journalist V. Omland
Terjesen reacts to Hughes hostility.
Due to the recent hostility from Patrick Hughes, Christer Terjesen says to the press that he is sorry for Hughes' fall, but sometimes that happens, and that he didn't want to win the race that way. He also sent a cake to Hughes to show that he don't want to win by luck. He hopes that the cake and this comment will help calm down Hughes.
Terjesen also says that he doesn't agree with his team manager, and thinks Hughes deserve his spot in CSC.
"He is a good rider, and is going to get even better. Also, he got a great sence of humour. And I also agree with him on me being a child. I'm not even allowed to drink in my home country, for crying out loud!" Terjesen said.
Terjesen now hopes that this little outburst will be forgotten, and the peloton will be as usual, although it could take a little time.

Patrick Hughes thanks Terjesen in his recent comments. He concludes that his earlier comments were in the heat of the moment. He congratulates Terjesen on his win and thanks him for the cake, although he likes chocolate more. However, the Rock Racing DS's comments about how he doesn't deserve a place at CSC are disgusting, as his results have shown. He wishes the DS a quick recovery but that Terjesen sees sence and leaves Rock Racing. |

Booth talks to Terjesen day after Dwars.
Rock racing and CSC stayed in the same hotel while dwars was on and Rider Matt Booth, Terjesen and Patrick Hughes were seen in the hotels bar on the night of the day following Dwars.
PCM Monthly Asked "So there doesn't seem to be much love lost"
Booth replied with a smirk. "No at the end of the day we are all cyclists and why bother arguing. Us three are all respected people in the peleton seems silly to look like little children"
We can escape the fact that the little story was exciting. The riders are looking forward to their next race which is... Crit Int i think... |

Comment on recent evens from C.jensen:
I've used most of february helping the other guys which has been good, seeing what results we got. That said had a very good day at the Coppa Costa degli Etruschi race in which i could go for my own chances and ended up 4th place. could have gone better by staying with brown instead of trying to get away from them but i'm happy with th result
march so far have been good too, omloop whent great but didnt quite turn out how i wanted it to be, i ended up being in front the last 4km and brown just sprinted by and i was stunned, i was really having some pain here and brown just whent away like the wind. i thought he was suffering atleast as much as me but i guess he wasnt. seeing the win go away i thought i could just take it easy and get the 2nd but out of nowhere comes hughes -.- so i took 3rd, which is good!! right? anyway happy for hughes.
Kuurne really wasnt a race for me, i didnt have the legs, though i managed to get a solid 16th which wasnt bad.
all the way thru dwars i felt good and i was confident i could get a result. i felt great at the last kms, and i was at my toes. i thought i saw someone stand up to attack and i just powered away, realising that i had gone alone later that km >.<.( once again ds yelled in the radio, and as a result im now supposed to go have a lesson on when to attack)i got an ok 14th anyway but i was really pissed at the fact that i had attacked too early.
Have no comment on the latest drama, though i would like to get a bit air away from you guys (Press) you're going to close.
So yea... so far my seasons been good after all i should still be around top 15 i think . now go away so i can go have my lesson...

Quickstep Press Release
March has been an up and down month for QuickStep, after the absolute Dominance of the first cobbles race we learnt that sprinting is something that we need to work on, hopefully this issue will be rectified by the time next season comes along. On the plus side, Brown's agressive nature has shone through and has allowed our sponsors plenty of TV time.
In April Quick Step will hope that some more agresive riding will bring about victory.

March summary by Christer Terjesen
This month was pretty wierd. I don't even remember if I finished Omloop het Volk...
In Kuurne - Brussels - Kuurne, I managed a 17th place. That was an ok result, I think.
The Dwars door Vlaanderen went really well, by me getting a win, getting houled at, give away a cake, give my DS a schock so he had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. I think the DS managed to get some happiness pills, since he hasn't been yelling at me a single time after the race.
The Criteritum International went great. I managed to beat a dane by one second in the GC. I think it was Mike Ø. K. Jensen... But I'm not sure. (I think I need to study those results better...) Anyways, getting 8th on the first stage, a 5th on the second stage, I think, and a 8th on the TT, I managed to do really well. These results managed to give me a 13th overall, and a 5th in the point competition. This race was quite great for the team. =)
