Continuity For Evonik - ELKO
Evonik - ELKO continues for another season. After joining the professional cycling circuit in 2014 and promoting to PT for the 2016 season, the team is heading into its 10th season - the 8th consecutive season in the highest level of cycling.
One key factor for success has been the continuity and stability, having been sponsored by German chemistry company Evonik since its beginning. The ELKO Group, a Latvian distributor of IT and electronics products, joined for the team's second season and stayed loyal ever since.
Despite enjoying slightly less success than in many previous seasons, none of the sponsors saw any reason to cancel their commitment to the project. The belief in the team to be visible and succesful in the biggest races is unbroken. Full list of returning sponsors can be found below:

I admit that it's only after 4 years that I finally realize you actually have a German main sponsor - and even some link to Puma
Wish you all the best for the transfer season, and I'm pretty positive you'll finish higher up than last year, not having to spend a fortune on signing the French cook (le cuisinier) this time

The transition season is over and think you're all set to build on it and improve from here on in. Will be following closely how you supplement your newfound stage racing focus

fabianski - We might have a german sponsor but we are a 100% latvian team. Might sound very weird but actually seems to fit with the recent sponsorship strategy of Evonik who stepped down as Bundesliga jersey sponsor of Borussia Dortmund but remains as their Champions League jersey sponsor to focus on an international audience. So basically Evonik wants to see us striving for success while ELKO wants to see some Latvian representation making us a Latvian team. At least thats my head canon
abhi - id say the transition was a big success, now i have to decide whether i want to extend the transition a bit longer or push for a top 5 immediately. Some intersting decisions ahead of me.

We entered the off-season with 20 riders and could agree on a new contract with 19 of them. Farzad Khodayari is the odd one out - he didn't feel valued enough and wanted a larger contract rewarding his Vuelta stage win. We felt he wasnt important enough to the future of the team to justify that and wish him all the best and hope that he will get a larger contract in free agency than he could have earned with us.
Outside of that, we are especially glad that the cornerstones of our long-term future were quick to agree to team friendly deals. Both our top stars Miguel Angel Lopez and Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier took responsibility for a mediocre 2022 season and took small paycuts as did both of our top talents Luke Plapp and Alekss Krasts. On the other hand, Blums and Polanc earned a pay rise after strong performances over the last few seasons.
These are the 19 riders that are heading in transfers as Evonik riders although a few of them might be open for new challenges at other teams:
Nat. | Name | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | XP | Age | | Pierre-Henri Lecuisinier | 71 | 85 | 75 | 78 | 78 | 80 | 79 | 65 | 67 | 74 | 65 | 70 | 77 | 4.100 | 30 | | Miguel Angel Lopez | 70 | 79 | 84 | 71 | 76 | 74 | 74 | 50 | 66 | 78 | 80 | 71 | 72 | 4.100 | 29 | | Jan Polanc | 72 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 73 | 65 | 78 | 67 | 75 | 67 | 71 | 74 | 4.100 | 31 | | Martins Blums | 72 | 77 | 77 | 68 | 71 | 73 | 74 | 63 | 64 | 70 | 73 | 78 | 71 | 4.100 | 28 | | Andris Vosekalns | 66 | 78 | 75 | 62 | 69 | 73 | 72 | 51 | 67 | 71 | 81 | 68 | 62 | 4.100 | 31 | | Krists Neilands | 77 | 56 | 69 | 63 | 74 | 73 | 70 | 78 | 71 | 67 | 63 | 71 | 67 | 4.100 | 29 | | Armands Becis | 74 | 68 | 73 | 69 | 73 | 75 | 73 | 68 | 74 | 74 | 78 | 65 | 74 | 4.100 | 32 | | Olli Kulppi | 73 | 59 | 67 | 61 | 73 | 69 | 69 | 77 | 65 | 70 | 63 | 70 | 60 | 4.100 | 32 | | Kaspars Sergis | 68 | 75 | 76 | 58 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 58 | 58 | 70 | 76 | 66 | 58 | 4.100 | 31 | | Luke Plapp | 70 | 74 | 73 | 73 | 70 | 75 | 72 | 58 | 62 | 67 | 72 | 64 | 74 | 3.02 | 23 | | Eriks Toms Gavars | 70 | 75 | 74 | 73 | 71 | 73 | 72 | 58 | 67 | 70 | 70 | 67 | 72 | 4.100 | 26 | | Piotr Havik | 77 | 63 | 70 | 65 | 74 | 73 | 64 | 72 | 70 | 69 | 75 | 70 | 64 | 4.100 | 29 | | Sakari Lehtinen | 67 | 75 | 73 | 65 | 72 | 69 | 70 | 60 | 65 | 67 | 67 | 70 | 60 | 4.100 | 30 | | Jaako Hänninen | 70 | 70 | 74 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 74 | 55 | 64 | 72 | 71 | 68 | 70 | 4.58 | 26 | | Wojciech Pszczolarski | 73 | 60 | 70 | 74 | 68 | 72 | 67 | 53 | 71 | 72 | 68 | 65 | 77 | 4.100 | 32 | | Kristers Ansons | 73 | 67 | 69 | 70 | 70 | 70 | 67 | 67 | 70 | 72 | 70 | 68 | 69 | 3.99 | 24 | | Fredrik Dversnes | 73 | 66 | 68 | 65 | 72 | 73 | 69 | 68 | 66 | 73 | 74 | 66 | 67 | 3.99 | 26 | | Asbjorn Hellemose | 66 | 71 | 71 | 59 | 70 | 71 | 72 | 61 | 62 | 67 | 68 | 69 | 59 | 3.92 | 24 | | Alekss Krasts | 69 | 70 | 69 | 69 | 69 | 68 | 67 | 59 | 66 | 68 | 71 | 72 | 69 | 1.95 | 22 |

Nice work cutting down the wages of PHL and MAL, even if Polanc and Blums tempered the savings. Disappointing that you've kept Hellemose though, I'm pretty certain he'd enjoy his life more if he was riding for us!

Nice wage cut on Plapp

Pretty solid renewals all around! Good cuts on MAL and PHL, with the former not being a millionaire anymore! Those cuts should allow you to find a few decent riders to start pushing back towards a potential top 3 charge again!

Great cuts for the leaders, some free wage to go about as well as sellable assets. Look forward to how you take the next step towards getting back to title contention

redordead - I hope so too. Both have room for improvements compared to last year. And I'm very happy with Plapps wage
whitey - I even considered offering Lecuisinier 999k to not have a millionaire anymore but felt like that was pushing it a bit too much for not enough gain. But as you said, it gives us a bit of room to manoever which is of course much appreciated!
abhi - Don't put too much pressure on me I might have a nice big two but its still a long way to go towards the t word

Very nice renewals I'd say, onto a bit of a more pleasant season for you hopefully. The relegation troubles persisted for a bit too long in 2022, but surely/hopefully this time you'll be back where you belong more quickly, and with the free salary cap I can see you finish several spots higher than last time. Of course, always hard to exactly predict before transfer season even starts. There's exactly one fun South American in your team, but something tells me he's not the most available rider you have. And even if he was, my bank account tells me he really isn't. Good luck during transfers

Great deals for the big two and very solid work with the talents as well. Given the space that's been freed up and already being at a 5-man surplus of full-time riders you normally need I'm excited for what you can do in transfers

Saving some wage is always fine and with two such leaders you probably won't have to sweat before transfers start, but I'm curious how you'll spend your cap space and probable transfer incomes.

lief - Hellemose is a very cool rider who can be a big asset for our future. But he is not crucial enough that im not open for trade talks
nemo - Sounds like you think i need to invest more into South americans so that he isnt alone anymore?
jandal - I think the two of us need to start a petition to allow more stagiares to count towards min riders across all divisions
kandesbunzler - there is always some sweat ahead of transfers. Maybe not about relegation but so many ideas, so little space to act in - i have yet to decide on a proper plan to follow

These five riders are looking for a new team. While they could easily remain with us, a sale is the most likely option.

These four fill important roles for the present and future but we are very much open to negotiations and/or can see likely scenarios of a sale fitting our plans. Hit us up if you are interested.

Vosekalns potentially for sale, no way?! I don’t think I could ever picture him riding for another team, it would be too wrong.

It definitely feels wrong. He has been such an iconic and succesful break rider for me that i probably should keep him till the end of his career. But if i need/want to raise some funds, he looks like one of the better riders to do so. It will be a hard decision to do but i think I'm ready after making so many tough decisions last season...
