A NEW DAWN?

The second season in the life of our team is not one for the books. Although Jonas Ahlstrand, the Swedish speedster, won the PCT individual rankings the rest of the team didn’t rise to the same level of competiveness and at the end of this season we find ourselves back to continental level. It is true we shouldn’t have been promoted in the first place, but due to some disbandment of teams we went up one level. Unfortunately, that was only the first of a couple of bad news for our team, the relegation meant a reassessing of performance from the sponsors and this one ended with the retiring of both of them, Volcanica Coffee and Fox.

DarkWolf would like to thank them both for the backing offered the first two season, but at the same time our team manager is already actively seeking new sponsors for our team. In a conversation we had with him DarkWolf felt that the development of our youngsters goes well and it would be a shame to know help them further in their careers due to lack of funding. It would also be a shame for this cycling region that the team manager still hopes to highlight within the peloton. For now there are no news as how his search is going, but we do hope he’ll manage to find a new sponsor for the upcoming season. We’re keeping our fingers crossed around here for that to happen.

Not the greatest year for latin American cycling with 2/3 going down. I hope we can convert that into 2/3 going up this season, although I also wouldn't mind riding in the same division as you for once Smile Looking forward to see what sponsors will step up to keep the regional focus alive!

Shame about the relegation despite Ahlstrand being an overwhelming success. Look forward to see how you rebuild and do hope the region focus stays irrespective of sponsor changes. If not, then would be interested to see where the new direction heads to.

Feeling a bit sorry for having sold you Nairo, that guy was one of the division's biggest underperformes (even more so than last year), and has now managed to bury two teams in the depth of CT in as many years...
I hope you'll find some great new sponsors that will stay with the team even in rough times - but I'm sure those won't last too long for you Smile Even after a decline, Ahlstrand would rock the division, and I hope you'll be able to keep him (or use him for some serious fundraising) Smile

DarkWolf
@Nemolito Yes, not the greatest year, but let's see what the future holds.

@AbhishekLFC Ahlstrand was awesome. Unfortunately he was the only one for our team and we find ourselves back to square one.

@Fabianski No need to feel sorry, after all nobody forced me to buy Quintana. Well, it is what it is so I need to see what strategy I can adopt to secure the future of the team.

THE COYOTES

The changing of the guard for our team didn’t come easy and yet the team manager finally managed to conclude his search for a new sponsor. Such transitions do not come easy, but we can announce with great joy that following the latest negotiations DarkWolf and the new sponsor share a common vision regarding our team, its future and further development. With all the details now in place the management can start working on the season ahead and we can now unveil the new name of our team.

So, Los Zorros (The Foxes) become Los Coyotes (The Coyotes) since our main sponsor is Manada Coyote. Manada Coyote is a producer of artisan beer based in the mountains of San Ramon, on the banks of Rio Barranca. It is a Costa Rican family business that started operating in 2016. Since then it produces 5 types of beer, together with some made special for certain seasons and festivities. The beers are made with the fresh water specific of the area.

The equipment will be provided by CMS Sportswear, that is also our secondary sponsor, a Costa Rican company with more than 7 years of experience in the design, production and sale of sportive outfits.

Without further ado let's wish Los Coyotes the best of luck in the new season.

Good to hear you've found a new sponsor.

And man, that's a nice jersey! I already liked the front but seeing the backside of it was incredible. Glad to probably see it a lot next season in common races (though hopefully not the backside Wink).

Great, never hurts to have some more good beer in the peloton Smile
Would be funny to see Masnada vs. Manada in some C1/HC races next year - additional challenge for some reporters Pfft

All the best for renewals & transfers, hopefully you can bounce back immediately!

Loving the new look! Ok PCT didn't work out well, but if you can renew Ahlstrand and sell him for a large amount of pesos then a bounce-back season seems well within reach.

@kandesbunzler26 Thank you. I do hope to show the back of the jersey in races, but since I'm still building in the region I think I'll see the back of other jerseys quite often. Smile

@Fabianski Masnada vs Manada does have a sound to it, although I'm not sure about the numbers involved. Smile All the best for you in the transfers too and may you stay in the PCT! Wink

@Laurens147 Thank you! Good luck to you as well! Smile

@TheManxMissile Thank you! Indeed preparing the new season will be challenging, but I am up for it. Smile

RENEWALS / TRANSFER AVAILABILITY

The relegation of our team last season brought not only the change in sponsorship, but also the difficult challenge of renewing contracts within the squad. The team manager faced a tall task and some tough decisions to make, but in the end such assignments are an integral part of the job. As we revise our team after the conclusion of the renewals it is clear the decrease in salary cap did no favors to the team manager. However, it is abundantly clear that DarkWolf remains adamant to developing the young riders from Costa Rica and around the Central American region. As a matter of fact 7 out of 9 renewed contracts are of 4 riders from Costa Rica and 3 representing El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua. Their average age is of 24.4 years. The other 2 renewals are of the 2 stars of the team, the winner of last season’s PCT Individual Rankings, Jonas Ahlstrand, and of Nairo Quintana, despite his disappointing results.

It remains to be seen what the transfer window has in store for our team, but it is clear that a careful planning of this period is needed. The only thing clear is that Jonas Ahlstrand is available for transfer, while Nairo Quintana might be as well, depending on the offer(s) received.

Ahlstrand will be a sought after rider with his SPR+ACC stat and you can make a lot of money from him alone despite starting his decline phase. And if you also have a great offer for Quintana, IMO you'd increase your budget significantly. Wish you well in transfer season.

Indeed Ahlstrand is still a very good sprinter. Quintana should also have another solid year in him. Both on acceptable wages aswell.

For the second year in a row after falling to reach an agreement during the renewal of contracts and after Gabriel Marin tested the waters of free agency our team and the rider managed to find a common ground. Some might say the relationship between the two is a bumpy and odd one, but we like to think it denotes the difficulty of both to part ways. Last year, Gabriel Marin was formidable lead-out for Jonas Ahlstrand and even snatched a victory for himself along the way, therefore we’re thrilled to welcome this stalwart member of our team back. Or continue to enjoy his presence within the squad since he never actually left.

Another comeback that on closer inspection is nothing of the sort is that of Pablo Mudarra. The team manager considers Pablo Mudarra a valuable teammate as he put on some relentless work in the service of others. All his valiant efforts didn’t reward him with equal results, but he still flirted with top 10s on a couple of occasions.

Our team remains committed to the future too and we are proud to announce the signing of another young rider from our country, Kevin Granados. We are in the 3rd year of our existence and we are getting closer to ripping the rewards of developing the young cyclists of our nation and region. This might require another year still, but seeing how things go so far and with this new signing we believe the future looks bright.

Granados is really interesting as he could be a sprinter, climber or puncheur Smile

Looks like I'm not the only one who re-signed a sprinter after letting him go during renewals. No place like home is right Smile Cool to see you continuing to build that Costa Rican base, Granados is a neat rider like red said.

TheManxMissile
Yeah! Lets go Central America!!! I really liked the look of Granados and if he was just off-shore i'd have battled you for hi.
